Title: Rise Against DVD "Generation Lost"
Post by: cheequankam on 10 Dec 2006, 03:45
They got a dvd coming out which should rock since it will have live videos and music videos.  They are really good live and I think there songs are really awsome.

Anyone of you seen it yet?

I know there mainstream and all for Questionable Content but I still think there very good.

I think THEY'RE alright. But this topic might be better suited to be in the music thread. You should go ahead and put it THERE instead.

"They're" not "There".

I saw them live on Thursday night. Great show. Played all the favourites including an awesome cover of Ohio.
Wouldn't mind seeing a DVD of them.

I outgrew them.  I met the bassist once.  He was a nice guy, but they're stuff is just pretty much generic punk rehash.

I missed them on Warped Tour because both myself and my friend were pretty much dead from dehydration, but I do enjoy them.

Is the album that came out this year any good? I still haven't gotten around to it.

I tried seeing them at the fireside a few years ago... missed that one and saw them at the metro maybe 3 years ago... that gave me my fill of Rise Against.

Ya there latest album was good.

They're : Shortening of "They are". Such as "THEY'RE here."

Their: Used to show ownership, such as "THEIR latest album was good."

There: Used to signify a place. "I was going THERE."

 Got it?

The Unraveling is a great hardcore record. I also like the recent single and 'Swing Life Away' from the last one. I need to buy more of their albums, really.

Oh my God, I truly expected Rise Against to get slammed here.  Truly that is what I expected.  I just don't think there's anything special about them.

I was more interested in helping out the dude/dudette with their grammar.

Musically no, they're not that different. However, they're one of the only "political" punk bands to make it in the mainstream and I say kudos for that.
Plus they're fun and what's wrong with liking fun bands?

How do you define fun?  I used to like them.  I saw them with Bad Religion when I was 15 and it was one of the best experiences of my life.  I'll always remember crowd surfing and having Greg Graffin point at me.

Then why should they be ripped apart by this forum? They play decent music, they're fun and to the best of my knowledge they haven't "soldout".

Ummm, unless you consider jumping from Fat Wreck (which, given, has its own share of corruption) to Geffen selling out.  I mean, they play okay music in my opinion, but not great music.  Also, their lyrics are preachy and unchallenging.  I mean, they fucking sing about the environment.

I'm gonna hope you were being ironic there...

And their logic for changing record companies was that they would get their message out to more people with a better distributor like Geffen.

Hey, you mentioned selling out.  I don't hate them.  Let's just get that straight.

"Message?"  I wonder how much Rise Against really care about their "message."  Their message is pretty shallow: Fuck Bush (Tim actually demanded that everyone yell this at the show), save the trees, don't eat animals (but it's okay to consume dairy).

So are we gonna call Against Me! sellouts for jumping onto Sire?

Speaking of pretty fun politically minded punk bands that I didn't get to see on Warped Tour this year...Against Me!.

Why the fuck do people say that dairy is a bad thing? I can understand not eating meat, etc. but why dairy? I'm genuinely asking.

Because dairy animals are given steroids and physically abused.  They're also kept in ridiculously small spaces.

Plus, I remember a freind of mine mentioning once that somehow dairy consumption increases the amount of veal produced, as the calves are denied their mothers milk, this causes them to be more lean or tender (starved) or something along those lines.

A punk band from chicagger.

Arlington Heights, specifically.

The usual line is that without the dairy industry the meat industry would struggle to survive so in many ways dairy is worse than meat.
i.e. that cattle are kept pregnant in order to keep them producing milk, the calves are sold for veal or raised for meat or more milk. The cattle are kept in crap conditions etc etc yatayatayata, you've likely heard it all before and don't care.

Rise Against: Good band, good message (however shallow it might be), good times.

Fair enough then I guess.

I'll still stick to my human-concerned charities, though.

My point is that it is not good because it is shallow.  They should just write all their songs about girls; that way they wouldn't be so disingenuous.

Well I don't think it's shallow, it's something they as a band honestly believe. You might consider it shallow but to many people fair trade, animals rights and environmental protection are incredibly important issues.
I know they don't necessarily address these issues in the most complex manner but does that actually matter? Better than SOAD where three quarters of their audience have no clue what's going on.
In the words of Minor Threat "You tell me that I make no difference, well at least Im fucking trying".

Yeah, they're trying.  Whoop!
