Title: Hey Rosetta!
Post by: Recent Vintage on 11 Dec 2006, 14:46
Anybody heard of this band?

They're up in eastern Canada and haven't really toured outside of that area yet, but I heard them on XM and bought their EP and I'm in love.

Wondering if anyone else had some opinions.

For a second, I thought you were talking about Rosetta, the Isis-y band that I really like, but then I remembered they're from Philly.  I haven't heard this band yet, what are they like?

There are a few songs on their home page (http://www.rosettaband.com/). I'm thinking of buying their album, they're pretty good.

Here (http://www.indieworkshop.com/interviews.php?id=101) is an interview from Indie Workshop (RIP :( )

Wait, are we talking about the same band?

Wait, are we talking about the same band?

You and I are talking about the same band, which is a different band than what Recent Vintage was talking about.  Thanks for the link though, I'll read that!

I listened to one song from each, haveing never heard of either band.  While neither was great, mathematically, those were the conclusions I reached... sorry.

The Rosetta Stone is a Ptolemaic era stele inscribed with the same passage of writing in two Egyptian language scripts and in classical Greek. It was created in 196 BC, discovered by the French in 1799 at Rosetta, and translated in 1822 by Frenchman Jean-Fran?ois Champollion. Comparative translation of the stone assisted in understanding many previously undecipherable examples of hieroglyphic writing. The text of the Rosetta Stone is a decree from Ptolemy V, describing the repealing of various taxes and instructions to erect statues in temples.

The Stone is 114.4 centimeters high at its tallest point, 72.3 centimeters wide, and 27.9 centimeters thick (45.04 in. high, 28.5 in. wide, 10.9 in. thick). Weighing approximately 760 kg (1,676 pounds), it was originally thought to be granite or basalt but is currently described as granodiorite and is dark grey-pinkish in color. The Stone has been kept at the British Museum in London since 1802.
