Title: YOU GUYS EXPLOSIONS IN THE SKY
Post by: jeph on 14 Dec 2006, 08:40: Their new album just leaked. I like it a lot!

They did everything I was hoping they'd do with this record. The songs are less ponderous, the band is tighter, they're experimenting with some different instrumentation, and they're finally rocking out again. Distortion! Zeppelin drum beats! The first genuinely ominous song they've ever recorded ("It's Natural To Be Afraid")! It's not a radical departure from their earlier stuff, but they took all the elements I like about their music and used them to make some more good songs.

i don't plan on attempting to hear the album until the day it is officially released, which also happens to be the day i'm seeing them live for the first time. i'm getting the new album at the show and not a day sooner. that's my stubborn and absurd decision and i'm sticking to it.

Post by: Spike on 15 Dec 2006, 12:38: The ominous bit seems to disappear towards the end of "It's Natural to be Afraid." It seems like they just made some minor adjustments but it comes out really nice.
