I want to play a game, where one person posts song lyrics, and then other people analyze them to the tiniest little detail. I think this is an incredibly fun thing, and we should all do it, because it is fun! you can do as much or as little of each song as you would like, but it is fun! Like shakespere, kinda, but you know, hipsterier.
I am starting with this song, because I know it by heart, and have analyzed it like a bazillion times.
I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you
Let's forget about the tongue-tied lightning
Let's undress just like cross-eyed strangers
This is not a joke so please stop smiling
What was I thinking when I said it didn't hurt
I want to glide through those brown eyes dreaming
Take you from the inside, baby hold on tight
You were so right when you said I've been drinking
What was I thinking when we said good night
I want to hold you in the Bible-black predawn
You're quite a quiet, domino, bury me now
Take off your band-aid 'cause I don't believe in touchdowns
What was I thinking when we said hello
I always thought that if I held you tightly
You'd always love me like you did back then
Then I fell asleep in the city kept blinking
What was I thinking when I let you back in
I am trying to break your heart
I am trying to break your heart
But still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart
Disposable Dixie cup drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I've been hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you
(Loves you)
I'm the man who loves you
-
I'll give this ago because I'm bored, not sure exactly what you have in mind but here goes. It's not as good as Tommy's but...
I am an American aquarium drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I'm hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you
Hmm I don't know what Amrican Aquarium refers to I assume its some sought of metaphor for cheap booze. "Assassin down the avenue" I think means he's trying to invite some trouble, maybe get beaten up or something, he's putting himself out there for assassination. Looks like he's running away from he's girl and doesn't really know why.
Looks like he wants the girl back, wants to get over the argument they had and make it like it was before. He's trying to pretend he's ok being seperated but he's not, typical angsty lyrics really... Looks like maybe he's alcholism is the route cause of the disagreement and looks like he was the one who walked out on her not the other way around.
What was I thinking when I let you back in
Some nice, dare I say pretentious metaphors here, looks like some time has past now and he's run into her again and hooked up with her. Things weren't the same as they once were and he's disspaointed himself because he's still remembering what things used to be like.
I am trying to break your heart
I am trying to break your heart
But still I'd be lying if I said it wasn't easy
I am trying to break your heart
Disposable Dixie cup drinker
I assassin down the avenue
I've been hiding out in the big city blinking
What was I thinking when I let go of you
(Loves you)
I'm the man who loves you
This parts really the crux of the song to me it looks like he's realised that he'll never be the kind of man she wants and if they stayed together he'd keep disspointing (and hurting) her. I dunno what a dixie cup is I'm guessing its stronger booze. Finally he realises he's always going to be inlove with her (but its not enough)...
Of Course I could be way off the mark. Here's a song for someone else to analyse
Lights out - We live in a world of darkness
No doubt - Everything's up for sale
We sleep - All of the world is burning
We pray - To god for better deal
Nothing is sacred - Back then or now
Everything's wasted...
Is that all there is ?
Can I go now ?
Judas my guide
Whispers in the night
Judas my guide
Fight wars - Die in a blaze of glory
Come home - Meat in a plastic sack
Fall down - Better pray to your god for mercy
So kneel - and help the blade cut clean
Nothing is sacred - Back then or now
Everyone's wasted...
Is that all there is ?
Is that it now ?
I live in the black
I have no guiding light
I'm whispering in your dreams...

ready.....set....ANALYZE:
[Repeat x2]
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
I know you want it,
The thing that makes me,
What the guys go crazy for.
They lose their minds,
The way I wind,
I think its time
[Chorus x2]
La la-la la la,
Warm it up.
Lala-lalala,
The boys are waiting
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
I can see youre on it,
You want me to teach thee
Techniques that freaks these boys,
It can't be bought,
Just know, thieves get caught,
Watch if your smart,
[Chorus x2]
La la-la la la,
Warm it up,
La la-la la la,
The boys are waiting,
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
Oh, once you get involved,
Everyone will look this way-so,
You must maintain your charm,
Same time maintain your halo,
Just get the perfect blend,
Plus what you have within,
Then next his eyes are squint,
Then he's picked up your scent,
[Chorus x2]
Lala-lalala,
Warm it up,
Lala-lalala,
The boys are waiting,
My milkshake brings all the boys to the yard,
And their like
It's better than yours,
Damn right it's better than yours,
I can teach you,
But I have to charge
ok, so whatchya got??

The song is about maternity, and the "milkshake" is an obvious reference to the delicious teat of the mother, a comfort that is rarely equaled, and has the boys (who long for their youthful days) to "come to the yard" (suckle at her breast.)
-
she makes delicious milkshakes, which causes her backyard to be a popular socialization spot for the neighborhood youth.
she's willing to teach them how to make said milkshakes at home, but charges a nominal fee for her recipe .
there is nothing sexual about it.
milkshakes
-
What do you mean, "nothing sexual"? Didn't anyone ever tell you milk comes from cow tits?!
-
and what's more sexual than a female with 8 teets
i give you two songs to analyse
No Fucking by NoMeansNo
All I see are cocks and cunts
All I hear are push and grunts
I don' like it
secondly i post the lyrics to You Sound like Louis Burdett by The Whitlams - go forth and analyse
Had a little bit to drink
There's a little thing I want at a do out East
Nothing too emotional, my good miss
I couldn't be serious in a room full of jack-knife eyes
Stop talking 'bout the years - you sound like Louis Burdett
And we roll on to my backshed, play some poker, scratch my head
Look at the sky and spot the planes, where would I go on holidays?
Roll with the punches, down the aisles, and down the street the weeks roll by
I'm chewing ice and grinning, I'm spewing up and spinning
It's billiousness as usual in my corner of the kitchen
Hey you, lose that friend before we go anywhere
What? Someone might see you alone?
Stop bagging out the band, you sound like Louis Burdett
All my friends are fuck-ups but they're fun to have around
Banana chairs out on the concrete, telling stories to the stars
how Gemini's love Wooden Dragons, and how down the street the weeks roll by
The moment the night wears off, the bombsite reappears
They're all asleep but the morning tastes like wine
It tastes like wine in Tempe
I feel so good I just might wake him up
Pat him on the bald head - tell me about a dream Louis, something
obscene Louis, your life's an open magazine Louis
I'm stoned in a bookshop, sober in a nightclub
Sex is everywhere but nowhere 'round me
By the time she gets to Marrickville we'll be masturbating
never rains in Tempe but the planes remind me of family money and the lack down here
Stop talking frustrated, 'cause I sound like Louis Burdett
Most of my friends are very fruity indeed, such fun to have around
Terror, like charity, begins at home
Chris don't like madness, but madness likes him
He's got a finger in his chest saying how it should have been

I dunno what a dixie cup is I'm guessing its stronger booze
a dixie cup is a little paper cup that some people put in their bathrooms. :/
-
Or they use it at picnics and barbeques and stuff where there are a lot of people and nobody wants to do dishes. You know. Because they're disposable cups.
-
solo cups pwn dixie cups in pretty much every way i can think. did you know that drinking blush from a solo cup is damn classy? b/c i still insist that it is....
-
lmao. i never really had a preference when it comes to disposable cups.
-
lmao. i never really had a preference when it comes to disposable cups.
And that's why you fucking suck.
-

While we're here, can I ask you a question that's been nagging me for ages?
Is your name is a Johnny The Homicidal Maniac reference?
-

thanks.

Did you know that's one of the reasons Rosario Dawson got a part in Clerks II, because she quoted it to Kevin Smith at her audition?
That'd put you on a semi-even footing with her, Johnny.
-
I'm pretty sure it's because Johnny's first name is... well, Johnny, and his last name starts with the letter C.
-
I had wondered, because Johnny does not seem like the kind of person to even read JHTM, it's just Johnny C is Johnny The Homicidal Maniacs real name.
Also, oooh,
"So, irritants, it is with this that i leave you. You are spared so that you can think of what it really is to live in a world that engenders a pain for which there is NO comfort. Here is your product! You have the rest of your lives to think of this. I suggest you think quickly, for a long life is never a guarantee."
CAN I HAVE A PART IN CLERKS 3 PLZ.
-
I assume it being very close to my real name (hint: my last name is more than just the letter "C") means I've one-upped Rosario Dawson.
Oddly enough, Khar, your phrasing of that question is almost identical, albiet with stricter adherence to grammar, to a question posed to me via PM by someone else a little while after they joined. I take this as an omen that I should read Johnny The Homicidal Maniac. Feel free to give me a loose outline so I know what I'm getting into.
-
JHTM is basically a comic strip about an excruciatingly thin, hyper-violent serial killer that metamorphosed quite quickly into a sort of satire of media violence and the reaction to it, that also comments on the negative effects of cultural conformity and capitalism while taking constant side-swipes at goth culture, whilst being stupidly goth itself. It's not the best comic novel ever (and not even the best goth revenge fantasy comic ever, because that would be the original Crow, a fantastic piece of art now sadly almost entirely eclipsed by its inferior spin-offs), but it is somewhat unique in that it presents Johnnys rampages as essentially the pointless, wasteful actions of a creative mind that has gone off the rails. Johnny never derives any sort of permanent satisfaction from his hyperviolent outbursts, and eventually abandons them. The writing can get slightly annoying at times, and the overall plot arc is kind of tacked together, but the art is extremely stylish and its often quite amusing, if you go in for black humour.

how Gemini's love Wooden Dragons
I FINALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS BIT MEANS
Thanks, QC.
-
shouldn't that be thanking me...i did post it after all

JTHM is also animated by the same guy that animated for the cartoon Invader Zim.

it is indeed and both (although i prefer zim) are kinda-sorta cool. khar pegged jthm pretty well and i agree, basically, with what he wrote. vasquez is a pretty funny writer and there are enough weird scenarios and bizzare characters to make the comic interesting. i too like the art a lot, very dark and with a sorta messy look about it at times. well done

yeh, it's kinda overly goth at times but it's not too shabby as far as the genre goes.
