Title: That's it, I'm out of here
Post by: Misereatur on 08 Feb 2007, 12:42
Israel's first hebrew de-pop band (http://www.myspace.com/anyhearts)

Would anyone like to give shelter to an Israeli refugee?
I'll pay you in handjobs if it comes to that (that's right, Tommy).

I tried to listen to this to see how bad it was...I shut it off after 30 seconds.  'Twas bad, indeed.

i didn't think that was all that bad.  :\  just wish i could have understood the lyrics.

No. No you dont.

Tommy, my medical profile is just above 21 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Profile_21). Which means I'll probably get to look at a gun while I make coffee for soldiers who have one.

Will, that is the worst Israeli pop I ever heard. And I heard a lot of crappy pop.

You know you're in trouble when they list Josh Groban as an influence

Wow. This stuff is awesomely bad. And Misereatur is right, quite a bit of Israeli pop is pretty crappy, but this ...

And then they also post this (http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=145262832&blogID=222269902&MyToken=1d1c5b9a-d8b4-46f4-af93-853b87f55700) in their Myspace blog. "I do not create. God creates. I re-create and give credit where its due." ... Sweet Raptor Jesus, words actually fail me there.
But now I really want to find out about their lyrics.

That is the greatest thing from Israel since DANA INTERNATIONAL (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zidcpa6AFuc)

Although Dana International's act was a lot more masculine.

I don't get it, what's so bad about that?  I mean, it's not particularly good, but it's not really all that bad.  It's competent pop-rock.  It sounds like a lot of Latin American pop-rock bands I've heard, like Sodastereo.

Dana International is hilarious, I actually have a lot of respect for her.

Also, zerodrone, to me Israel is trying to emmerce itself in a thined down american culture for ages now. I know that it's like anywhere else and there's nothing I can really do about it, but that just pissed me off more then anything else. They look like a parody band of MCR and Fall Out Boy.

I found their music to be far less bad than Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance.  I'd say they're more hovering around the Killers' level of quality.

In other words, "still crap".

i can't stand The Killers, i don't know why.  to me, they sound a lot like Matchbook Romance.  who i like a lot.

I didn't say the Killers were great - though their first album had several good pop songs on it - I was just saying they aren't nearly as cringe-inducing as FOB or MCR.

But they are ridiculously arrogant. I read an interview with Brandon Flowers when he was asked to justify his claim that their new album was one of the best of the last twenty years. He said that it is one of the best albums of the last twenty years. I want to punch him in the cock, and the face, as well as kicking his ass which I think are all the same place, since he's a dickhead with his head up his arse.

Is there some kind of machine that just makes these bands? I can imagine all too well people from a large record company flicking through indenti-kit type processes to create their image, background, values and music.

Man what you're not remembering here is average people have shitty ideas too.

That's what gets me about people getting all up in arms that bad music exists.  Have you been to a bookstore lately?  Most popular books are crap.  Most popular movies are crap.  Most of all art is crap, why should music be an exception?  The reason that "good" bands are "good" is because it takes exceptional talent to come up with it.  Not every musician in the world is capable of coming up with something revolutionary or amazing.  And not every person in the world WANTS that kind of music.  If you played the average person on the street a Boris album and a My Chemical Romance album, 99% of them would prefer MCR.  They aren't wrong, they aren't stupid, they just aren't interested in something that challenges them.  This whole argument is pointless.

Most of all art is crap

not true.  beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  one person might like abstract art, while someone else would like realism art, or cubism, and they could all look at eachother's and say that it's crap.  this also can be applied to music.  someone might like creative, complicated music, while someone else could like simple, yet energetic music.  then, there's individuals who will listen to anything and everything, and have no preferences as to what they like and do not like.

I didn't mean that there is an exact list of what art is crap; I meant that for any given person, most art is crap to them.

For example, for a 14 year old teenybopper girl, probably almost everything I listen to is "crap".  To her, Boris and NMH and Public Enemy and Willie Nelson are all "crap".

What I'm saying is that, no matter what your musical tastes are, by sheer volume most music you encounter will seem "crappy" to you.

dude your lucky, most people i talk to are like "wilco?, who are they. oh have you heard the new Killers album?"

which i follow up by saying that Brandon Flowers is one of the frontmen in most dire need of having his balls (if he has any) shoved in a blender

No, you misunderstand. She didn't know who Wilco was. Still doesn't, if I'm not mistaken.

except for the statement about the 14 year old girl, that's not entirely true. unless you are singled minded when it comes to music.  i know many individuals who will listen to anything, and only call something crap if it is justified.  others (like myself)  appreciate almost all forms of music (with a few exceptions i will not mention) because most of them take some form of talent to make.  becoming a musicisian helps one to understand and appreciate as such.  the same goes for art.

I am a musician.

I hate getting into this argument because invariably people don't think hard enough about it.

Put it this way:

My taste in music is insanely diverse.  I like some bands from just abour every genre.

But if you go to a large record store and actually listened to every CD in it, I am quite sure you would find that a whole lot of it is crap, even if it's crap from a genre that you like.  Get what I'm saying?

When people say "Oh, no, most music I hear I can appreciate on some level", what they're not taking into account is that "most music I hear" does not equal "most music in a given genre".  There are tons and tons of third-rate bands in every single genre, and most people never even hear about them because not even fans of the genre like them.

Get me now?

Example: I like Neal Stephenson's novels.  That doesn't mean I think Vurt (I forget the author's name) is anything less than a total waste of paper.
