Well please enjoy (and support) this lovely little band i found recently
In Remembrance - We'll Always Have The Memories (http://rapidshare.com/files/15446887/In_Remembrance_-_2007_-_Well_Always_Have_The_Memories_-_gym_-_by_tuko.rar)
-
I never said that
-
Sure you didn't.
I like hardcore.
-
haha...anyway, if you feel inclined upload some hardcore albums you enjoy. I'll be doing the same every so often.
Ps. Why are there so many christian hardcore bands?
-
I didn't know anyone liked hardcore.
-
Apparently its cooler than rock.
-
i like hardcore. idk if you guys would call them hardcore, but i like stuff like, Comeback Kid, Alexisonfire, Boys Night Out etc. i can't upload them, but i can reccommend albums...
-
No one on this board would call that hardcore, to my knowledge. However, I like the first full length of all three of those bands. Really, though, Alexisonfire and BNO are hardly even imaginably hardcore. Really.
-
I never said that
The next person to put words in my mouth will be raped by demons.
-
Sure you didn't.
I like hardcore.
DATE RAPE!!! DATE RAPE!
-
damn this is some good shit. thanks JRob

yeah i didn't think so. they are really good albums though.
-
what would you consider alexisonfire? thats the only one of those bands ive heard, i wouldnt consider them hardcore but i dont know what to call them either haha
-
Genre's are kind of a pain sometimes. Maybe screamo? Never could really get in to Alexis, but im proud they are Canadian.
Comeback Kid on the other hand though....ew.
-
The Acacia Strain - The Dead Walk (http://safelix.com/c0trmn0)
You should probably have this by now.
-
I was a fan of the Buffalo hardcore stuff back when I was growing up. Like Snapcase and what not. Boy Sets Fire used to play around there all the time too. Both those bands either "sold out" and stopped being considered hardcore or stopped making music as far as I remember though.
-
Im guessing that would be a more "punk influenced" kind of hardcore?

3750 is much better, though there's way too much filler. It may as well be an EP. Either way, the three guitarists definatly made that band.
-
Ya it sure did. I dont know why i like it better than their other 2 releases...just preference i guess.
Anyway
Emmure - Goodbye To The Gallows (http://rapidshare.com/files/16745792/Emmure_-_2007_-_Goodbye_To_The_Gallows_-_gym_-_by_hmter.rar.html)
I've been listening to this all morning...it's some exciting musical violence, and i know my violence.
-
Not much a fan of the modern hardcore, aka metalcore with scream accompaniment. Scene kids make me wanna light the pope on fire. I like the old hardcore, a la Dead Kennedys, much more. But the musical suckery and derivativeness and all around cloning that goes on nowadays is not my piece of cake. Oh granted, there are a few good ones out there, but for the most part, I'd rather listen to my grandparents having sex.
-
Modern hardcore is a lot of things and I don't think it is fair to simply equal it with metalcore. That would be disregarding bands like Haram, Amanda Woodward, Baroness, City of Caterpillar, Akimbo, Envy, Kylesa etc. Granted they do not sound exactly like old-school hardcore(or emo/screamo for that matter) but I would attribute that to simple evolution and a willingness to experiment. Baroness and Kylesa are good examples of mixing metal with hardcore + more which doesn't end up sounding anything like Killswitch Engage or others. In my opinion the hardcore and hardcore-related scene is more vibrant than ever, you just have do a little digging.
-
I haven't heard much worthwhile hardcore, but believe it or not.. it does exist!
Walls of Jericho, Killwhitneydead, and Poison The Well. Killwhitneydead is more grindcore.. but it counts.
-
Yeah, I know there are some good ones, City of Caterpillar is quite nice, but they're buried under tons and tons of angsty teenagers in tight pants and trucker hats.
-
Im eagerly awaiting new poison the well.
-
Guys.
If we're trying to steer somebody towards good hardcore Poison the Well is not an example we should be using.
-
I don't know, I've always liked Poison The Well. You Come Before You was a fun album, if not seminal (did you guys know seminal also means "consisting of semen?"). It's difficult to toss out hardcore recommendations, because the genres around that particular influence have been muddled far too much.
--I would definitely recommend Alexisonfire: all of their albums are pretty accessible, but Crisis is just a continuation of Watch Out!.
--Fear Before The March Of Flames. I recommend this to everyone. Very experimental, and The Always Open Mouth is absolutely fantastic.
--At The Drive-In and Fugazi. Duh.
--Converge! You will not like Converge on the first, or tenth, listen. Once you like them, you love them.
--Bear vs Shark. I like Bear vs Shark. You should too.
--These Arms Are Snakes. If you like FBtMoF, you might like TAaS. You might not.
--The Sounds Of Animals Fighting. Actually worse than Converge for inaccessibility. Good stuff though.
--Blood Brothers. Ditto above.
-
I still say 7 Angels 7 Plagues defined the (at the very least) midwest metalcore/hardcore sound. The best recommendation I could think to give.
-

Noooooo. Crisis is a sonic step backwards, and honestly they're worse off for it. If you're going to listen to AOF, the best thing to do is start with the self-titled, go to Watch Out! and then maybe venture to Crisis if you're feeling brave. It's not a really bad record but it's by no means as good as either of the prior two.

The Sound of Animals Fighting and the Blood Brothers aren't hardcore. they're experimental.

-
I think 'experimental' might be the most bullshit name for a genre I've ever heard.
-
(guys I ended this thread four posts ago)
-
You do know that bands can be in a genre and also be experimental, right?
yes, but they just don't strike me as a hardcore band...at all, i shouldn't really be talking about the Blood Brothers, i haven't heard much of them, but i wouldn't say The Sound of Animals Fighting are a hardcore band...
-
Why are you kids arguing over which is and isnt hardcore? If it's got breakdowns and chugging, its hardcore.
-
I say we just listen to Kai.
-
Well I haven't heard anything new by Poison the Well in ages. Do they suck now? I certainly liked them with "Distance.."
-
I don't know enough about Poison the Well to distinguish between eras, only enough to say that every song I've ever heard has been horrendous.
-
As far as harcore goes they used to be pretty good.
-
Why are you kids arguing over which is and isnt hardcore? If it's got breakdowns and chugging, its hardcore.
Or nu-metal.
-
GUYS, I ALREADY ENDED THIS THREAD
(http://dischord.com/store/images/003.jpg)
SERIOUSLY
-
Minor Threat is amazing, Ian Mackaye is my hero.
Pg. 99 is a great hardcore/screamo band.
-
You cant end my thread just because you like minor threat
-
Does Lightning Bolt count? I'd like to point out that they rock, regardless.
-
is Saosin hardcore?
-

Or nu-metal.
I don't think Aghora qualifies as either...and they've got chugging...
-
I'm going to jump in on mocking the statement "if it has breakdowns and chuggs, it's hardcore".
I would really never consider Saosin, Alexisonfire, Emery, etc. hardcore at all. I guess maybe it was, like, 500th wave screemo or something, but I would never lump any band that's basically hard and melodic with occasional screaming into the hardcore genre.
And Saosin stopped being relevant when Anthony Green quit that band. I really could never figure out why they kept going. Circa Survive really isn't much better either. Too bad, cause Seven Years was just a really, really good song.
-
i freaking love "Seven Years"
-
Nice 3000th post, bitch.
-
I DO COCAINE
(seriously dude, lotta cocaine)
-
The Acacia Strain - The Dead Walk (http://safelix.com/c0trmn0)
You should probably have this by now.
This is probably the crappiest "hardcore" release I've heard in the last year. Jugga jugga does not hardcore make.
And with such excellent hardcore out there (MLIW, Sinking Ships, Doom Riders etc) why would you even listen to this? I get the feeling "The Acacia Strain" was a nu-metal band previously.
-
Everyones a critic
What about the tony danza tap dancing extravaganza? Me and him call it us, Botch, The End, Scarlet.
I suppose those are all shit bands too?
-
I like The End musically but I have trouble stomaching all that banal teenage angst and the vocals that convey it.
I think they should ditch the singer and go instrumental.
-
And I don't really feel the Acacia Strain are in the same league as Botch or Tony Danza at all.
While I love them, I did hate the Acacia Strain at first for the same vibe that Jrob had. It took seeing them live to really start caring (and luckily I havent seen them recently... I hear they're down to one guitarist? how horrible)
-
Rizzo, the fact that you mentioned Doom Riders makes me glad you exist! And also, I've been hearing a lot lately about Sinking Ships, I suppose I should check them out?
-
TSOAF aren't hardcore and Poison The Well fucking suck
Oh for shit's sake. I saw Poison the Well open for the Deftones once. Graaaaaaagh.
-
Several years ago, I saw Poison The Well with 18 Visions (who are now utter shit), Shai Halud, Further Seems Forever, and Dillenger Escape Plan. It was one of the first non-local shows I'd been to, and despite the fact that I really only like DEP anymore, it was fun and I still remember it fondly. PTW is not anything great, but I still enjoy them from time to time.
-
I'd like to take a second and recommend Above This Fire as some good, sometimes cheesy, but usually awesome posi-core.
And, again, seriously, 7 Angels 7 Pluages... and Coma Eternal.
-

I know they are not, i just dislike it when people think its cool to shit all over someone else's musical taste.
And as for the one guitarist thing...jinkies.
-
It's called the internet... these things happen.
Jinkies?...
-
Rizzo, the fact that you mentioned Doom Riders makes me glad you exist! And also, I've been hearing a lot lately about Sinking Ships, I suppose I should check them out?
Yeah def. They sound a lot like CBK and Champion but they kinda throw their own stylings in there. I have a review up on another site of it but today I'm not feeling the shameless selfpromotion vibe so PM me if you'd like a link.
With regard to The Acacia Strain, as pointless as it is to dis someone else's musical taste, it wasn't so much a dig at you as at the band themselves.
It just seems to me that there's no real structure to it. There's plenty of cool licks that they throw in but they don't actually fit into the song in any way. Then theres the fact that the melody never seems to develop beyond open chords muted e.g. jugga jugga at various tempos.
And then the subject matter and lyrics... Emotional is fine, I like emotional hardcore but whining selfindulgence is best reserved for poppy bands who can pull it off.
I've given it two listens through on my mp3 player and I can honestly say I ain't feeling it.
Hell, I'd rather listen to Dwid's "goth" band, Roses Never Fade.
-

It's time for you to learn a sad fact of life, son. The internet really only exists for five (5) reasons:
1: Getting FBI agents disguised as 13 year old girls to cyber with you
2: Distributing the Anarchists cookbook
3: Myspace
4: Rule 34
5: Insulting other peoples tastes
Everything else is an entirely incidental and possibly the product of a deranged imagination and/or water flouridation.
-
I come for the jigga juggas, I stay for the wigga wuggas
-
haha, i know i know. Sometimes i forget that the Internet is in fact the Internet.
And yes i agree that Acacia is somewhat limited musically.
When that realization is made, i usually just throw in The Faceless or some other desperately cool band.
nice strongbad reference

Rule 34...? :?

rule 34: if it exists
...
there is porn of it
