It's very early in the year but I would not be surprised if Boris have managed to have the best album released two years in a row. Rainbow is totally unlike Pink in almost every way but is equally, if not more, fucking amazing. Pink was certainly a very untraditional metal album, but Rainbow is simply not a metal album at all. It bears more than a passing resemblance to Kurihara's native band Ghost, and also works out all kinds of other kinks, like the stoner-jam droneout of "Fuzzy Reactor" (which combines the best of Flying Saucer Attack and Hash Jar Tempo into less than 4 glorious minutes, which is the only misstep - a song like that needs around 8 minutes at least, and could easily go 30 and still be great, like Bardo Pond's "Sangh Seriatim") and the blues-kick of "Sweet No. 1".

I heard a lot about this album, I just cant find it anywhere. It's one of those albums I want to own. Godamnit.
I havent heard any of Michio Kurihara's stuff. Actually, I havent heard of him untill I heard about Rainbow. Any albums I should start with?

As far as Kurihara, I've only heard him with Ghost. I'd say their best album is Hypnotic Underworld, and probably the easiest to get into. After that, Lama Rabi Rabi is definitely one of the best psych-folk records ever made, whereas Snuffbox Immanence is a good, polished rock album with some folky moments. I haven't heard the new Ghost album yet.

I heard alot of hype about Boris, but didn't listen to them until last week when someone on another forum uploaded all of their stuff. Rainbow is an awesome album. It's probably my 2nd favorite release so far this year including leaked albums.
EDIT: Added UNTIL before "last week" so this actually makes sense.

I really quite like this album, though I prefered Pink by a fairly decent margin. I can think of a few albums out so far this year that I enjoy more, but this one seems like it will have a greater ability to stay enjoyable as time passes, while others may fade over time.

I ripped this a few days into the new year and I think I can fairly say that while the year is still young we have top 10 quality here. Boris is one of my favorite bands (view avatar) and what I like most about this album is that it really showcases their ability to a) collaborate well and b) write seriously in different stylistic languages and come up with gold every time. I'll probably post some more thoughts on it later. Anybody got a favorite track?

"Rainbow" and "Fuzzy Reactor" are my favorites so far.

I really want to get this album! It sounds really promising. I haven't been able to find it anywhere on the net though, so I may just get it when I order a big bunch of cds next month.

And thanks for posting it zerodrone, else I would never have found it. If you'd have described it to me I doubt I would have bothered picking it up and wouldn't really have expected to like it too much.
I really love this after about 2 listens, and I expect I'll still love it after a lot more.
