What were the songs you played on your radio show? It was awesome. I have some new favourite bands.
-
Okay, so I didn't write down a playlist, but I will totally go back to the station and get it later on. Sorry!
In the meantime, you can ask me about songs and maybe I will be able to tell you what they were?
So far on gabbly I have revealed that:
The Enright House - 'Solitaire' was the long, electronic-y song with the spoken word female vocal and a male singing vocal.
So So Modern - 'Upgrade Your Chassis (It's A Pythagorean Party)' was the post punk-ish Liars-y one.
Pig Out - 'Disco Bag' was the one that sounded like New Order.
-
Also, tune in same time next week.
-
For those of us who missed this week, what time/day should we plan on doing nothing for?
-
How did I not know about such a great NZ radio station. Just how?!
-
It's on at 10am Friday here. You can work out what that corresponds to in your own timezones!
I will bump the thread and pop into gabbly to give you a heads up before the show starts next week though.
-
Gryff's in NZ I think, so he's gmtI have nothing of value to add.1 or so?

Have you heard Over The Atlantic? They're on a New York label, Carpark, but they're New Zealanders, so maybe they're big there?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljHwih06pOc
This song is quite remarkably like The Cars crossed with modern electronica... wait, that's the Postal Service! Anyway I love it. Maybe this low-key, kinda slack songs vibe is quite a Kiwi thing? I get the impression it is.
I got into them via producer / member Signer who does beautiful mellow minimal electronics that probably don't suit your show at all. Hm. Actually, do any New Zealanders know about his Involve (http://www.involverecords.com) label? Looks like it's probably a total niche like Birchville Cat Motel and so on.
-
Yes indeed. I saw Over The Atlantic play a couple of months ago actually, and I dig their style. In fact, I may just play some on tomorrow's show, which happens to be on in a mere 9 hours, folks.
And yeah, all of those bands are pretty niche even here. Whereabouts are you from? I'm surprised that someone from outside of NZ has heard of them!
-
Just through label links (Carpark) and being on the internet forever... no special mystery. I was really into a couple of other things on Carpark, so signed up to their newsletter.
Birchville Cat Motel is big as far as droney business goes! Do a search on here, you'll see him mentioned a bunch of times.

-
Beep beep, on again in 15 mins.
-
Hey so I kind of neglected this thread for a while there, but I'm still doing the radio, just in a different timeslot with kind of a different format. But I'll be on again in about 35 minutes, so listen in if you wanna. One of my fave bands, The Enright House, is going to play live to air!
-
Hey so I haven't stopped doing this show or anything, but I kinda stopped posting in it 'cause I figured maybe the novelty might have worn off or something.
But I'm going to be on air again in about 35 minutes, so tune in if you feel like it. I'm guesting on another show that plays lots of guitar-y stuff.
Uh yeah!
