Title: true crime, anyone?
Post by: eatyrspleens on 15 Mar 2007, 23:43
i'm one of the biggest true crime fans you'll ever meet. besides, you know, those serial killer fanatics that go to hearings and profess their love to them. anyway, i'm pretty sure reading crimelibrary.com relentlessly for the last six years is what has ruined my eyesight. goddamn computer screens. yeah, so, true crime, anyone? my favorites have been "the night stalker" by philip carlo, "a father's story" by lionel dahmer, "the embrace" by aphrodite jones, and "true vampires" by sondra london (the queen of serial killer groupies!)

a lot of people find it weird. i don't know. i just find the subject interesting.

We are studying Crime Fiction in one of my English courses at the moment. We have watched 'The Big Sleep' and are currently working on 'The Real Inspector Hound' which is a play by Tom Stoppard. It is absolutely hilarious when seen on stage. Our next text is 'The Skull Beneath the Skin' by P.D. James.

I was hoping this thread was about Clint Eastwood's 1999 film True Crime (http://imdb.com/title/tt0139668/).

Fail.

I was hoping this thread was about  one of the worst games ever made so I could insult you for liking it.

i'm sorry to have disappointed you both.
real-life trauma is much more entertaining than shitty video games and clint eastwood movies though, c'mon.

Not necessarily.

To paraphrase Philip Styron in Sophie's Choice:  Real evil is boring and systematic.

Evil and crime is only really exciting and entertaining in the movies.

What about video games based on Clint Eastwood movies about real-life traumas?

I read the Executioner's Song by Norman Mailer recently. That was pretty incredible.

Also, anybody with even the slightest skerrick of interest in criminal investigation or the police force simply has to read Homicide: a Year on the Killing Streets by David Simon. It's an absolutely terrific book.
