I found this idea in a thread whilst searching Rilo Kiley (btw, my copy of Take Offs and Landings came in the mail yesterday! Yay!) in the search engine and thought it was damn neat. The thread's like a century old and I would get shot if I revived it.
So yeah, put the music player of your choice on shuffle and post the first seven songs to play. If a songs is especially embarassing, please explain.
I'll start:
Bear Vs. Shark- Baraga Embankment
Nirvana- Sliver (the acoustic version off With The Lights Out)

I remember finding Takeoffs And Landings used at the local record store for $7 back before More Adventurous even came out. I was so psyched.
Anyway:
Sufjan Stevens - The Lord God Bird

Hammer Smashed Face by Cannibal Corpse off Tomb of the Mutilated

Radiohead- 2+2=5
The New Pornographers- The Jessica Numbers
The Flaming Lips- Are You a Hypnotist??

In all fairness, I have my iTunes set to play my higher rated songs more often, so these aren't very indicative of anything about me, other than that I like these songs a lot.

Mmm, they were awesome.
Well, they opened for Hellogoodbye with some emo band (Boys Like Girls) but they were still awesome. And they all signed my shoe 'cept Greta who wasn't there.
-
Aerosmith - Mama Kin
Jet - Timothy
INXS - Beautiful Girl
Motley Crue - Red Hot
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers - Trailer
Rolling Stones - Confessin' The Blues
Poison - So Tell Me Why
I rarely listen to my MP3 player on anything but shuffle.
-
Nice, i like a couple Boys Like Girls songs, and a few Hellogoodbye ones. That sucks they were just opening.
-
Big Country- "In a Big Country"
The Surfaris- "Surfer Joe" (I didn't even know I had this)
Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra- "Buzzsaw"
The Vandals- "An Idea for a Movie" (Argh! N?-Vandals! Listening to this is leaving a bad taste in my mouth, now that I know how Joe Escalante screwed all the members of the original band.)
The Gibbons- "Basement Politics"
Saves The Day- "Clash City Rockers" (Oh, for fuck's sake. Why do I have this?)
Five Iron Frenzy- "It Was Beautiful" (Oh, man, I was afraid one of the crappy ska bands I haven't listened to since high school would rear their ugly heads.)
-
Mmm, they were awesome.
Well, they opened for Hellogoodbye with some emo band (Boys Like Girls) but they were still awesome. And they all signed my shoe 'cept Greta who wasn't there.
I'm going to that tour also, but they stop in my area on the second half of the tour, so I get The Rocket Summer instead of The Hush Sound. I am sad, but I do like The Rocket Summer. Just not as much.

Sandra McCracken - Violet Eyes
The Shins - Know Your Onion!

I'm going to that tour also, but they stop in my area on the second half of the tour, so I get The Rocket Summer instead of The Hush Sound. I am sad, but I do like The Rocket Summer. Just not as much.
Never heard of them, actually.
Hellogoodbye was fucking fantastic. Boys Like Girls was very predictable and sounded like every other stereotypical emo band, but they weren't bad. And yeah, the Hushies only opened but they got to play 4 fairly long songs, which wasn't bad.
Have fun when ya do go!
Heavy Metal Drummer - Wilco
Don't Ask Why - My Bloody Valentine
I Want The One I Can't Have - The Smiths
Road To Rouen - Supergrass
Vampire/Forest Fire - The Arcade Fire

Under the Weeping Moon- Opeth
99 Ways to Die- Megadeth

Clann Zu- You'll Have to Swim (demo version, which is far superior to the album version)

Q and Not U- District Night Prayer

The Flaming Lips - Approaching Pavonis Mons By Balloon (Utopia Planitia)
Tchaikovsky (Kirov Orchestra/Valery Gergiev) - The Nutcracker: Character dances - Polichinelle (The Clown) [OK this is pretty much the worst part of the entire ballet. Woo shuffle!]
Ray Charles - Born to Lose [Country with '40s pop style string section swirls? Ugh. Oh my god and then there's the chorus. I actually skipped at this point. Is this within the rules?]
Bo Diddley - Who Do You Love [Now THIS is more like it]
Dvorak (Chamber Orchestra of Europe) - Serenade for Strings in E, Op.22: II. Tempo di valse
The RH Factor - Poetry
Fell down in the middle, but all's well that ends well, right?
edited because the forum doesn't recognise the necessary accents to get Dvorak's name right
-
Green Hornet - Al Hirt. (Just plain effing awesome.)
Sen's Courage - New Japan Philharmonic. (Spirited Away has some damn nice music.)
The Great River - Howard Shore. (So does LoTR.)
Crocodile Rock - Elton John. (Hehehehe.)
Loving Me For Me - Christina Aguilera. (Yeah, so, this is pretty embarrassing. But I'm a teenage girl, I have angst! Or something... Moving on...)
Porcelain - Red Hot Chilli Peppers. (A fair few people don't like them that much anymore, but I still say they're good.)
Drunk Girl - Something Corperate. (Yes! I love this band. They rock all my socks, literal or otherwise.)
I have a random collection of songs...
-
If You Have to Ask - Red Hot Chili Peppers (one of my fave. tracks by RHCP, a classic from Blood Sugar Sex Magik)
Man on the Moon - R.E.M. (another classic track and another fave. of mine from Automatic For the People. Some of the lyrics in this song are pricless)
Porcelain - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (OMG Me too lol :P)
Countdown to Extinction - Megadeth (Not exactly their best ever song but not bad. A lot of traditional Megadeth bands don't like this album, sure it is no Rust in Peace but it beats Risk at least)
Stain of Mind - Slayer (So I have been listening to a lot more Slayer recently. Slayer were never as good without Dave Lombardo on drums but this song is a rare exception
Have You Ever - The Offspring (From Americana, their best album except Pretty Fly (For a White Guy))
Dirty Little Thing - Velvet Revolver (So VR arn't G 'n' R but they easily beat Axl Roses's G 'n' R tribute band)
The Nurse Who Love Me - A Perfect Circle (My friend Jack got me into them. Have only really listened to the Mer De Noms album properly so couldn't comment on this track yet but it seems pretty good on first few listens, kind of haunting and surreal)
Out On the Tiles - Led Zeppelin (From Led Zeppelin III a quality track inspired by dummer Bonhma's excessive drinking. Being covered by Megadeth on their new album so that should be...interesting just hope it is better than their cover of Anarchy in the UK)
Riding Shotgun - Anthrax (with Dimebag Darell on guest guitar, sweet song even tho I'm not a huge Anthrax fan)
Seek & Destroy - Metallica (awesome early Metallica classic, covered by my brother's band so I have a real affinity with this song)
-
Avenged Sevenfold- Radiant Eclipse
Nirvana- Love Buzz
Neutral Milk Hotel- The King Of Carrot Flowers Pts. Two & Three
INXS- Never Tear Us Apart (My mom's obsessed with these guys and this song kinda grew on me)
Franz Ferdinand- Do You Want To

Holy mainstream, Batman!

-
Deathcab for cutie - I will follow you into the dark (self explanatory)
Buck 65 - make out song (alot of people don't like buck 65's voice but I have always and will always love it.)
Dose One - Illuminati (Dose One is a very similar situation, I consider him my avant guardian, sorry for the pun.)
Architecture in Helsinki - to and fro (does it get any better than AiH?)
From First to Last - Featuring some of your favorite words (overrated band with a few decent songs, on a similar note I picked a fight with a hardcore dancer during one of their sets and almost got demolished by about three different crews, wasn't my smartest move but I consider it a moral victory and have no regrets.)
Cage - Bloody Boy Clean (Def jux plus adult swim? It wins.)
My Favourite Co-Pilot - (Great UK band you never heard. </3 They are long dead.)
-
Iron Maiden - Out Of The Shadows

Loving all the New Order so far.

Grendel - Noisome
Deepak Ram - Between Thoughts
Mono Chrome - Indestructable
Kingston Wall - Alt-Land-Is
Hammerfall - Hearts On Fire
!!! - Must Be The Moon

hahaha! thank you for knowing about anything box! I've searched many a year for somone who knew about them. last I heard they were gracing an article in penthouse from a few years ago.
-
Hah, awesome. Of the bands on that list, I didn't really expect an Anything Box fan to pop up...
'fraid I can't really claim to know much about 'em though, I just picked up a couple albums years ago on an esoteric synthpop binge. Their site's a bit tumbleweed, the last show listed is from 2002... but the forums are still a bit active so presumably they're still doing stuff? Regardless, Soul On Fire is an awesome song.
Since I'm here, let's do this again:
Ursula 1000 - Le Fini
Dekoy - Onset (intro track, boo)
Kingston Wall - Welcome To The Mirrorland
Mind.In.A.Box - Forever Gone

Arcade Fire- Black Wave/Bas Vibrations.
Kyuss- 50 Million Year Trip
Cult of Luna- Dark City Dead Man. Finally a song I really like.
