Just start posting some straight up indie rock that you think I (and otherpeople) should hear.

Grant-Lee Philips. Sort of.

Yes. Yes. YES.
Trompe-l'oeil is an amazing album. So is Le Compte Complet.
-
Sloan's One Chord To Another.
-
Funeral- The Arcade Fire
Hurrblurr?
-
Neon Bible by The Arcade Fire is a fantastic album too.

Sebadoh

I don't know if it really counts as "indie" . . . but I cannot stress enough how awesome the Waterboys are. Give A Pagan Place a listen. Then listen to any (or ideally all) of the following: This Is the Sea; Fisherman's Blues; and the Live Adventures of the Waterboys. If you have even a passing affection for the Arcade Fire or the Decemberists or just an interest in half-forgotten 80s gems there's a very real possibility you will love these albums.

I've been giving The Unicorns a bit of the 'ol listen lately.

Mountain Goats

Camper Van Beethoven
I saw these guys open for Built to Spill in D.C. and I found them to be way too jammy.

The Arcade whatnow? Who are they?

I've never seen them live but they don't come across that way on record.

DK, "Arcade Fire". They put out a pretty good record a few years ago, it's a fan favourite. I think they're gonna be huge. What do you think of them?
By the way, could you change your avatar to Donkey Kong? please? I always picture the 'DK' logo when I read your post.
-
I second the Unicorns and add Lightning Bolt :-D Not really though. I do add both Bedhead and The Wrens to the list though.
-
Bedhead

Bedhead
-
Bedhead are awesome but I would add that I generally enjoy The New Year (which is basically the same band) more.
Some more:
The Walkmen
The Twilight Sad (imagine My Bloody Valentine and Broken Social Scene fronted by the dude from Arab Strap)
-
Dinosaur Jr.

Instead of making list and explaining why I am recommending whoever, I'm just going to say:
Cursive are the closest thing I have to an orgasm.
You see, people will overlook cursive because they're insanely popular with those myspace kids with fake black hair and eye liner. People who do that are wrong. Those kids are one of the few things I really really dislike, but I still love Cursive.
Cursive have never put out a bad album, the closest thing was the odds and ends package, which still has some good songs on it.
PS. Just because I sort of stalk Tim Kasher is no reason not to take this recommendation seriously.
-
Tim Kasher should stick with "The Good Life." It's a much better band with much better music.
-
I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness are a great band with an unfortunate name and fanbase.
-
Wombat, the Good Life is great. But Cursive are just as good, if not better.
Album of the Year is an incredibly powerful album which to me, is the perfect companion to Domestica.
I am going to tell you all to buy Album of the Year and Domestica.
Domestica is a great concept album that tells the story of a relationship gone sour, the whole album is about these two characters and their relationship, but there's no 'ending' to the story. There's an amazing climax to the album, but no 'ending'. The whole package is so good it still makes me drag my jaw scrape along the ground when I move.
Album of the Year is a similar concept, featuring 12 tracks telling the story about a relationship, from it's beginning right to it's end and then the aftermath. It's all resolved with an incredibly bittersweet ending.
They sound absolutely amazing, and somehow, putting them together and comparing them made me appreciate them even more.

Funny deja vu, I read a similar comment on OiNK forums a couple days ago and nearly downloaded it because the name's so cheesy and awful, but never got around to it. Thanks for the second opinion, reckon I'll give 'em a go.

If there is one band you need to listen to because of the name, then that band is Casiotone for the Painfully Alone.
-
Hey, I agree with you on that. That guy is really great. I saw him open for Xiu Xiu recently and he is quite excellent live as well. Very good electronicy music with very good lyrics to boot. Apparanlty a lot of girls are really obsessed with him as several obnoxious 13 year oldsstanding near me at the show made it abundantly clear. He said he had been proposed to three times at the previous show. Not really too sure why.....but the music is good.
-
Yeah, the 'band' is pretty ugly. I don't understand why girls like him. I miss, early casiotone is pretty much unlistenable because of how lo-fi it is. But the songs are good and the "Delightfully downbeat" lyrics are so great. Never fails to make me smile. 13 yearold girls like Casiotone for the Painfully alone? I guess I'll have to stop championing this band. I always though it was something only lonely college students could get into.
-
It's supposed to be. Wombat merely missed a great opportunity to demonstrate a proper dropkick.

DOUBLE STANDARDS, MR. SPINLESS.
-
I was hoping somebody would pick up on that! Cursive are THAT good. :)
(I know I say this every dozen post, but here it is again for the new guys: Don't ever take me seriously unless I'm praising something)
-
Dude when I was 13 I knew girls who listened to The Cure, Front 242, Skinny Puppy, Bauhaus, the Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Fugazi, and the Dead Kennedys. In fact I heard about half those bands the first time precisely because of 13 year old girls that had made my 13 year old self mix tapes. Most of the guys, including myself, had barely gotten into Jane's Addiction and the Sex Pistols. The chicks in that scene knew what was up.
So I don't want to hear any ageism round these here parts.
-
I thought The Ugly Organ was really average.
-
Zing!
(Sorry DK)
-
I thought your 'Ugly Organ' was really average.
There are times I wish there was a smiley which approximated the Andrew Dice Clay "OHHHH!!!" as sampled in EMF's "Unbelievable".

I Ugly Organed all over your mom's face last night

I don't think they're gonna make it. I bet the live show's cack...

Negative.

Lodger (http://www.lodger.tv/) is just awesome! I think they just finished their US tour. Everyone should check them out. So good...
