I'm a big post-rock fan; can't get enough of it. But I want more. Here's a list of bands I regularly listen to:

Silver Mt. Zion

I'm pretty sure I have every album from all of those artists. Who am I missing? I want more, but I don't know who else plays this kind of music. Any recommendations?

To single one band out, people who seem to like this stuff have been giving Maserati props around the place.
Edit: Also, I don't know what The Notwist have to do with the other artists you mentioned, but the members have a whole lot of different projects. Try discogs.com I guess, I find that a useful first port of call for exploring links with not very rock stuff. Most recent thing I know of which has Markus Acher, their vocalist, singing is Dntel's new album 'Dumb Luck'. Also, there's a project called 13 & God who put out a self-titled album which features (I think) 3 members of the Notwist, including Markus on vocals on most tracks (sharing duties with some fairly wacky MCs). I don't like the album that much, but I've never been disappointed about having bought it and I think it's got 3 or 4 really great tracks.
Actually, re: Dntel, I think 'Life Is Full of Possibilities' and 'Dumb Luck' are both excellent albums and have heard some people call them post rock.
If you want to explore this kind of limp-wristed, no-balls rock meets electronics angle you could also try a compilation called 'Indietronica' from a few years back. It's pretty great. Or just look up the tracklisting on discogs and see if you can find stuff by some of the artists involved. Or maybe the Slowdive tribute album on Morr Music...

Matt, do you listen to A Silver Mt. Zion at all? They're more lyric-oriented (especially in later albums) than GY!BE, but I think you would really enjoy them if you haven't already checked them out.

There was a post-rock band on G7 Welcoming Committee Records a couple years ago (until they broke up) called Clann Zu that I really dig. I don't really listen to much post-rock though.

And "If These Trees Could Talk". Released a self-titled album last year that I picked up who knows where. I like it, though.

This may be a bit heavy for you, but I'd defintiely recommend you check out The Angelic Process, particularly their newest album. Imagine Sigur Ros put through a hundred distortion pedals and you're kind of close to The Angelic Process. Also, Caspian (No, I didn't name myself after them) are a pretty solid post rock band that trade 10 minute long songs for extra catchiness and general good times.
Finally, if you want to be a bit adventerous, give Nadja a shot. Something like MBV or Sigur ROs slowed way down with lots of extra fuzz.
I uploaded some Angelic Process and Nadja in the sendspace thread. Go an have a look, and download 'This Will Destroy You''s album "Young MOuntain", as it's also a really nice post rock album.

Alamaailman Vasarat is a great Balkan influenced "post rock" band. They're pretty unique sounding so if you're tired of orchestral sounding guitars and driving crescendos, check these guys out.
The American Dollar are, I believe, a relatively new band but they are very good. Silent Ballet like their album a lot and I think it's excellent as well.
For really nice ambient "post rock" listen to Feel Good Lost by, surprisingly enough, Broken Social Scene. It's the first BSS album and it's nothing like the later ones. But it's great.
If Yndi Halda wasn't already mentioned, well, they have been now. They're awesome. They only have one actual album and it's not too long but it's really awesome. One of the better bands in the genre perhaps?
Detwiije are also cool.
Those are the first ones that come to my sleep deprived mind but their all good anyway.

Yes! Circle are immense. I feel your list is somewhat lacking in its exclusion of Guapo though. I can see post-rock fans getting down to Guapo's dense, swirling rhythms. And they have a big gong, and you can never go wrong with a gong.

Or open the first page of the Sendspace thread and type 'post-rock' in the search bar top-left, thus weeding out the ~80% of uploads in there that aren't.

what the hell is "post-rock"? and who is this Slint i keep hearing about?
"post-rock" basically is any band who takes the typical rock instruments (drums, guitar, bass) and makes something not so typical out of it. rock music tends to be verse-chorus-verse-chorus-verse... but in post-rock you'll often hear 16 different bridges in between two parts of a song that I guess you could call a verse or a chorus, but it's different than it was the first time it was played.
Often times it has no vocals, some bands use undiscernable lyrics in moans or screams overtop their instruments. It is nearly always ambient, and a good percentage of post-rock bands create songs longer than 6 minutes.
and Slint were one of the first and greatest. that's why you hear of them a lot.

It's a good note. If you dig on all those bands I can't see any way you wouldn't get on down to Guapo. One of the best gigs I ever saw was Guapo, Circle, Ultralyd, Like A Kind of Matador and Birds of Delay all playing in front of the alter of a church. The sound was perfect and that combined with the visual experience was really intense.

Maybe Dirty Three aren't, in fact, post-rock? Think about it - there's very little about thier music that actually qualifies them as 'rock'. Even GYBE use guitars and occasionally rock out (with or without their cocks out).
Meh, I hate trying to pigeon-hole bands anyway. I think we should just have two genres - 'AWESOME' and 'BELINDA CARLISLE'. It would make life so much easier.

These days, post-rock is a much looser genre than it was when certain music reviewers coined the term. Now it can be thrown in with certain ambient music, krautrock, space rock, jazz, and other musical genre combos. Some of the bands that are considered post-rock have electronica influences. Surely, Dirty Three is post-rock, since the genre mostly incorporates long instrumental tracks that use rhythms, chord progressions, melodies, and harmonies that normal rock doesn't. And after all, they still use the instruments that the genre of rock is known for, being guitar, and drums.
Inlander can argue his point further, being the Dirty Three guy.

Ehh, it's creeping up to 1:30 in the morning, my argument at this stage mainly consists of of course they're post-rock, they've been doing it for fucking longer than just about anybody else!

It's probably not worth you putting in the effort to argue, since I wasn't being particularly serious anyway. Arguing about whether X band falls under Y genre is one of the most retarded things that you can do on the internet. Genre labels are useful only insofar as they let people who are fans of bands with a certain sound find other bands with a similar sound.

i agree completely.
i was once asked to define "alternative" because one of the radio stations around chicago advertises themselves as "Everything Alternative"
i had no idea how. because it isn't entirely rock, because there's hip hop and r&b that can be considered alternative. i've heard alternative country. alternative jazz... i have no idea what the word means. All I know is that I like it.
That's kinda how it is with indie, also. Indie used to have a meaning. independent bands. then it turned into this slightly garage sound, and then it's turned into what it is now, which is about 9485709485701984 different styles. including post-rock which also includes 298345071984 different styles.
but in a nut-shell, post-rock is exactly what I said it was. But since there's been some arguing about this Dirty Three band, that I've never listend to before, it has convinced me to listen.

Check out a band out of Knoxville called Dixie Dirt. They opened for Amanda Palmer of all people. They have two LPs, one of which is reminiscent of EITS, the other which is closer to Maserati.
Also: Don Caballero.

I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned Laura yet. Really, really good Australian post-rock band and I especially suggest the album Radio Swan Is Down. In fact I do believe they mentioned in a QC newspost once.

Good looks Tommy. Also, The Psychic Ills do some really great stuff that could be described that way, as do Bardo Pond and to a lesser extent Dead Meadow. All the bands I mentioned in my previous post are probably also on the same spectrum, if not precisely what you're looking for.

Saxon Shore. They consistently remind me of The Album Leaf song for song and I can't help but want to listen to The Album Leaf when listening to Saxon Shore. I personally don't dig Saxon but you might if you give them a try.
