I bought Crackdown for Crackdown, seeing as how I abhor Halo. However, int he interest of fairness, I'm giving the Halo 3 beta a spin.
It's alright. It's still vastly inferior to analogous games on the PC (UT), but it's a fun enough little diversion.
-
I'm one of the Rule of Three guys still stuck out waiting for their codes to be e-mailed. Which happens about an hour from now. I could care less if it's not as good as UT, they must of done something right for me to like the first two so much. I don't want to get too addicted to shooters, which is what happened to me with CS:Source (and I wasn't even that good) and for a while, the Assault puzzle maps on UT2K4. The halo series is interesting enough to keep me wanting to play it, but not so much that I'm itching for a game all the time.

downloading it was a bitch, but now I get to bask in all it's glory
though for some reason I felt like a whore for buying crackdown
-
That's too bad. It was a reasonably fun game while it lasted.
And the new content is pretty sweet.
-
actually I meant more along the lines of me getting Crackdown for the Beta, instead of actually wanting Crackdown. The way there I told myslef I was doing it cause I heard Crackdown was fun, but I knew that was just a lie, I only wanted to play the beta
-
I saw this in the window of a games store in the city. It looked like halos one and two.
-
Haven't downloaded it yet. Call me lazy, but I'm having too much fun with the new Crackdown content to bother with downloading a beta I won't enjoy with people I won't like. Halo has to have the worst fanbase in the history of forever.
-
So I was watching Attack of the Show where they were talking about the Halo 3 beta, and I thought they were showing footage of Halo 2 throughout the entire segment until they started to talk about the graphics and how it doesn't look much different from Halo 2. And I was like "holy shit, I can't even tell a difference."
I'm not saying you need amazing, eye fucking graphics to justify a sequel, but Halo 3 was supposed to be one of those games that would DEFINE next generation graphics. And from what I've seen, admittedly of a multiplayer beta, it's not that big of a step up from Halo 2.

I think that's something everyone can agree with.
As for the graphics, a lot of the changes are in tiny detail. At least, so far. I imagine they will pretty it up before release a bit more.
-
Also, Bungie has said the multiplayer graphics are actually inferior to Single Player. For some reason.
-
For some reason.
The nuances Bungie's put into multiplayer mean that an Xbox can't handle 16 Spartans jumping around screaming "NUBCAKES!" all the time.
Also, Bungie has already stated that the beta's graphics engine is essentially a modified Halo 2 engine, and we can expect it to look next-gen on full release. Remember, the beta isn't for looks, it's for collecting important feedback.
-
No, it's to build hype. Let's be honest.
-
Well, I finally got my key and downloaded it. Started playing it, and it's been a blast. I found a secret tunnel in High Ground and stuff. Took people out with a turret. Threw grenades in the snow.

We do realize we're talking about BETA here right?
-
i don't know why everyone is badmouthing the graphics. i think it's noticably prettier and cleaner than halo 2 already and it's only the beta. granted; it's not a huge difference but it is noticable.
also, the physics on dead bodies is much more complex and they impressed me when i first saw them in action.
my two cents. there they are.
note: i havent actually played yet so i cant reallly say anything about anything besides how it looks. i just happened to swing by my friends house after work and he was playing so i saw the game in action but havent had a chance to play yet.

I can't comment on the graphics because, as I have played about 3 hours of the beta, it's on a 1280x1024 monitor, which Bungie doesn't support yet. I hope this is fixed for release time.
Honestly, I'm having fun. It's a fun game. The community sucks, but it's still a romp in multiplayer.
