Title: Jeff Tweedy- Solo/Side Projects
Post by: ScrambledGregs on 23 Jun 2007, 08:54
I've had some kind of virus since Monday (it's not mono, but close) so I've been lazing around the house watching movies and listening to a fuckload of music. I went to the library the other day and got a bunch of CDs, among them Loose Fur's Born Again In The U.S.A. and The Minus 5's Down With Wilco. I guess it has somehow escaped me how much work outside of Wilco Tweedy has done. I mean I knew about Loose Fur and Tweedy's solo shows, but...

The point being, let's discussing Wilco-less Tweedy Go!!

All I can contribute so far is that this Loose Fur album is neat. That's the only description I can think of for it. It's more or less what I expected given the trio involved, aside from 'Wreckroom' which has a neat (there's that word again) minimalist kind of improv in it. In some ways I think that it does anticipate the laid back, classic rock 70s vibe of Sky Blue Sky, though I don't like to speculate a lot on how bands developed based on such tenuous assumptions.

Oh shit.

I have the Loose Fur self titled. I love Jeff Tweedy pretty unconditionally, so of course I like it, but at least this record has nothing in common with sky blue sky.

You should upload the minus 5 album.

All of Loose Fur's stuff I've heard is great.

So is the Jeff Tweedy Sunken Treasure live DVD.

I've only actually heard Jeff Tweedy live solo, none of his side projects or such...actually, I need to download Uncle Tulepo too! I'm so behind.

I find Wilco really boring, so I was kind of surprised that I enjoyed the Loose Fur EP instantly.  I guess it just seems much less mannered and tedious than every Wilco album I've heard (i.e. everything except the latest - can't say comparisons with 70s rock music exactly appeal).  I find the songs with Jeff singing much better than Jim's songs too.  Confusing.

Weird, I love hearing Jim sing, particularly in the context of a 'rock' band, which Loose Fur surely are.

Sorry, wasn't meaning I didn't like Jim's songs for Loose Fur, just that I much prefer Jeff's... was just saying it's odd for me given I don't like Wilco.

You're one to talk.

No, that wasn't meant to be a serious comeback, I just had to get it out of my system.
