Title: Wet music
Post by: sombrasoubrette on 03 Jul 2007, 16:25
My neighbourhood has a 4th of July parade and my block's float is themed "Under the Sea." It's a really cute thing that little kids get a kick out of.

I have been enlisted to obtain fun, kid-friendly water songs.

Unfortunately, I listen to music that is either too obscure, depressing, not-in-English, or otherwise inadequate music. Anyone shoot me a couple? So far all I have is a few Beach Boys songs, Under the Sea from Little Mermaid and Octopus's Garden by the Beatles. Meep?

"Underwater Love" by Smoke City for those party-time drunken hook-ups, "This is the Sea" by the Waterboys for the post-party hungover regrets.

I must admit that I thought this thread was going to be about something, uh, very different.

Seven Seas by Echo and the Bunnymen and The Swimmer by Sleater-Kinney is the best I can do.

It's only an instrumental, but Maritime by Isis is quite short (3 minutes long) and fairly peaceful and 'under the sea' sounding. It's in a major key and everything- this would be quite suitable, I think.

Rhyme of the Aincient Mariner = Megadeth

In that vein:
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner - Iron Maiden

Some nice watery imagery:
Sea of Possibilities - Nevermore
Dreaming Neon Black - Nevermore

I think the Maiden song would be great for kids, the Nevermore might be a little heavy.

Why does it always rain on me? by Travis?
It's Raining Men by The Weather Girls

The Decembrists always seemed quite maritime to me. Don't really know if the kids would dig it that much, though.

I think a lot of you people might be neglecting to realize that this is a mix for kids. As such, I don't think In Flames or Megadeath or anything along those lines is a good recommendation at all.

Anything off Mastodon's "Leviathan".. I mean come on.. it's about moby dick.. a whale.. whale's are in the sea..not on land, though some of them could be, maybe like the whale equivalent of the CIA, special agent whales infiltrating the land, just to spy on our silly ape activities and reporting back to thier cetacean comrades.. and then when the moment is right they will strike.. strike from the depths with all of thier blubbery hatred... erm..I've said to much, I think I'm in serious danger now
