Title: The Stooges live
Post by: Misereatur on 08 Jul 2007, 05:26
I went to see the Stooges live last night and I have only one thing to say: If you consider yourself a fan of a genre called 'Rock n' roll', then you owe it to yourself to go see the Stooges play live.

It was definitely the hardest rocking concert I have ever been to. Pop is a fucking energy bomb at 60 and Watt is awsome both as bass player and as a performer and really gives everything he's got playing live. Iggy stopped the concert in the middle of 1970 to let about 20 people on stage to dance with them, actually going "hey baby, you look good! get up here!". I couldn't believe how tight the Stooges were last night, considering the fact that they're all older then my parents. They sounded like they just came out of 1969 to play live. I talked to a guy who was at the first Stooges concert here 19 years ago, and he said last night's concert was just as good and even better.

All I'm trying to say is GO SEE THE STOOGES PLAY LIVE.

P.S.

The night before the concert I went to see Steve Mackay, the Stooges' Tenor Sax player (he's the one playing on Funhouse), improvising live with a few local experimental musicians. It was a pretty good Ayler/late Coltrane improvisation with noise and soundscapes by the local guys, and a pretty good drummer. I enjoyed it very much although the two musicians firends I was with didn't like parts of it. If the Stooges are playing live near you, it may be Worth checking out local Jazz/experimental joints to see if he's playing live too.

I got mixed up, it wasn't 1970, it was No (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nEeI21ofxfk) Fun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOXHcDR1-Ws).

They also played I Wanna Be Your Dog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4KB8dApY1w) twice (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_ITFvfBQGI).

I love I Wanna be Your Dog. Hearing it in that Guy Ritchie gangster flick from a while back made the movie so much better than it already was.

That's the good thing about the Stooges, you can enjoy even your least favorite songs when they're playing them live.

From what I remember they played most of, if not all of Funhouse.

Edit: my ears are still ringing, by the way.

What'd you mean you asked John Cale?

I assume that you were just name dropping- or better still being sarcastic.

I don't remember how, but Tommy and John Cale are related.

We're all being nice to Tommy because we might meet Cale some day.
