Just about every band I listen to. :|
-
Hopefully, most of the BANDS I love, including but certainly not limited to VAN HALEN.
-
Uhm... The Offspring?
-
Queens Of The Stone Age have been one of my favourite acts since I was 16.
-
I know maybe two other people on here that listen to the Lawrence Arms, but um, all of you SHOULD listen to them.
So uh, let's say Queen.
-
Muse.....
Muse.....
Muse.....
-
Queen's a good one. I'll have to support that endorsement.
-
Black Sabbath FTW
Also Radiohead and Jethro Tull
-
I love..love..love..
Soundgarden.
(Audioslave ... not so much)
-
I liked every Weezer record except for the godawful new one.
-
Red Hot Chili Peppers, hands down. Ooo... I'd like to tie them with Pink Floyd.
-
...really?
-
The Who
Queen
Muse
AC/DC
Others I can't think of.
-
The Cure
The Smiths
I also have to go with Queen
And I have a soft spot for The Whitlams too
-
I don't understand this thread!
-
It's probably something to do with irony. I hear the kids are big for that these days.
-
The London Symphony Orchestra
-
I liked every Weezer record except for the godawful new one.
I even liked that one. Not a ton. But a decent bit. The demos for it are excellent though.
-
I think the point of thread, because of another thread like this but opposite, is about music that other people know about, so this thread isnt about showing off you indie cred.
some bands I like, that most people know about and have heard are:
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
Pink Floyd
Apples in Stero
AC/DC
Miles Davis
Velvet Underground
Cream
The Rolling Stones
Jimi Hendrix
Deep Purple
WolfMother
Black Mountain
The Stray Cats
The Reverend Horton Heat
-
I quite like:
The Beatles
Queens of the Stone Age
Black Sabbath
... and a host of other usually-classic-rock bands that I'll gladly put on if I'm using someone else's iPod (Cream, Jethro Tull, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Hendrix, Jefferson Airplane, Bob Dylan, etc.) The ones I listed above are just the ones I went out of my way to really get into.
-
Gee, I like The Beatles too.
:-o
-
The Beatles are so 2006.
-
AC/DC
Guns N' Roses
Megadeth
Rob Zombie
Iron Maiden
Dio
Tenacious D
Aerosmith
Black Sabbath
Black Label Society
Franz Ferdinand
OK Go
Dropkick Murphys
older Weezer
Morningwood (a personal guilty pleasure)
-
OH DAMNIT, I forgot the Darkness!
-
The Beatles and Queen. If I was stranded on a desert island with a solar powered cd player, those are the two bands I'd be content with all the albums of.
-
OH DAMNIT, I forgot the Darkness!
There's a 'modify post' button for a reason. Just so you know.
Hipster as it may be, I do like Sufjan Stevens quite a bit.
-
If you count classic bands everyone has heard of, I could rattle off dozens and dozens of them. Beatles, Dylan, Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Elvis Costello, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Radiohead, and on, and on.
Contemporary bands the list is a bit shorter. Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen, Modest Mouse, Radiohead of course. I don't know if Arcade Fire and the Shins count, but their records debuted at like #1 so they probably do.
There's probably some other bands everyone has heard of that I love, but I've kind of lost touch of what exactly everyone has heard of.
-
The Stray Cats
Oh the Stray Cats! I love them.
-
Porcupine tree
Jamiroquai
The who
Rush
-
Muse.....
Muse.....
Muse.....
Agreed. And I saw them this year and it was a fucking great show!
-
Porcupine tree
Jamiroquai
I'm pretty sure Porcupine Tree isn't that well known, and I've never heard of Jamiroquai. Porcupine Tree is pretty good IMO.
-
Jamiroquai is indeed sweet. Gotta love the funk!
Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire. I can't help but love them.
-
I do like Modest Mouse that is not from their past couple of albums.
-
I don't really like any of what you'd call 'mainstream' bands; my tastes tend to run more obscure. Pretty much stuff that none of you would have ever heard of.
-
I think the point of thread, because of another thread like this but opposite, is about music that other people know about, so this thread isnt about showing off you indie cred.
That would be correct, sir.
I personally don't get the whole "If no one has heard of them, they must be awesome" idea. It's almost as if the indie culture shuns people that like a band that their parents listened to.
Anyway, another band I just thought of that hasn't been mentioned:
Creedence Clearwater Revival
-
The Beatles
Modest Mouse
Death Cab For Cutie
Madonna (NEW, old Madonna's SHITE)
-
Madonna started at the pinnacle of pop-Everest with "Holiday", and has been sliding downhill ever since.
-
ABBA
Amy Winehouse
Andrew Lloyd Webber (Well, Jesus Christ Superstar)
Barenaked Ladies
B.B. King
The Beatles
Beck
Billy Joel
Cake
Cream
CSNY
David Bowie
Duran Duran
Fat Boy Slim
Foreigner
Genesis
Gnarls Barkley
Jimi Hendrix
John Coltrane
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Michael Jackson
The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Phil Collins
Pink Floyd
The Polyphonic Spree
Queen
R.E.M.
Simon and Garfunkel
The Smiths
The Stray Cats
Styx
The Velvet Underground
The Who
My point, is why the bloody hell does it matter?
-
I personally don't get the whole "If no one has heard of them, they must be awesome" idea. It's almost as if the indie culture shuns people that like a band that their parents listened to.
I also never got the concept too of the whole knowing the most obscure music is better then knowing music that other people know about, Indie cred is pointless.
-
Porcupine tree
Jamiroquai
I'm pretty sure Porcupine Tree isn't that well known, and I've never heard of Jamiroquai. Porcupine Tree is pretty good IMO.
You've never heard of Jamiroquai? What hole have you been living under? have you even SEEN napoleon dynamite?
Porpupine tree are in many CD stores, many mainstream CD stores here.
-
KISS
Also, Journey. The Ramones. Sam Roberts (hereabouts, anyhow...you put the name of a city into a catchy song's title, the people are gonna know). Wilco.
-
Yeah, but they aren't exactly a household name. You know, you can buy Fugazi albums in a lot of mainstream outlets, too.
-
Sonic Youth
PRINCE
Joni Mitchell
Bob Dylan
-
hmmm.. bands.. Radiohead, Interpol, Joy Division, The Cure, New Order, Bloc Party, Arctic Monkeys, Calexico, Black Rebel Motorcyle Club, Razorlight, Doves, Pixies, Sonic Youth, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Fall, The Bravery, Siousxie and the Banshees, The Smiths.. that'll do fer a while 8-)
-
I have not heard of a lot of these bands, this thread is fucking shit.
The only answer to this thread is The Beatles, and Prince.
-
My point, is why the bloody hell does it matter?
I don't think it does. I'm a big fan of liking who ever I want. My list of popular bands that I enjoy could be a hundred long, but some that are really taboo for an underground music fan to enjoy:
New Found Glory, Avril Lavigne, Yellowcard, and Plain White T's
I end up listening to the radio everyday at work (Q101, for any of you that are around chicago) and there are very few songs played on there that I dislike.
-
I have only heard of one of those bands, and so therefore, you are disqualified. (I am sorry I am being a dick to you new guy, its just you were the first person to post after I decided to implement my new 'be a dick' policy)
-
oh man, you must live under a rock, then.
-
Maybe those bands are only pretty big in America? I dont know. It is not like I am exactly all WOO WOO ALEX LLOYD WOO WOO SOMETHING FOR KATE in this thread.
-
This thread really needs to be stopped before it kills again.
-
oh, my bad. obviously i don't have a grasp on the locations of all the users, yet.
but either way, i thought both New Found Glory and Avril Lavigne were universally popular.
-
He's implemented a "Be a dick" policy. That means you shouldn't take anything he takes seriously, ever.
Anyway, what is the point of any discussion on the internet? or anywhere? There really isn't much point in anything. Might as well talk about something entertaining, right? Maybe you'll find other people with similar musical tastes and make a connection that way.
Anyway, rather than make a new thread, I thought I might as well put this thought I've had in here because it sort of goes along with it.
I think I like the familiar. I also think there's nothing wrong with that, as long as someone doesn't get so caught up in a shell that they don't allow themselves room to expand. I had a pretty crappy day today (had to train a new girl at work, which wasn't so bad because she's very cute and we got along, but she's got a boyfriend so I'm stopped dead cold already, and Best Buy turned me down for a job I would be totally perfect at). I got home and turned on some Led Zeppelin and I just felt better. I wasn't quite so angry anymore, because it was just something familiar. It wasn't lyrics speaking to my soul. It wasn't messages of peace. It was just something easy to relax to.
-
...really?
Ok ok... so TYING the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink Floyd was a bold statement. I don't mean to tie them in terms of talent, because Pink Floyd obviously are legendary. Just in terms of enjoyment. I enjoy and appreciate them equally in different ways.
-
He's implemented a "Be a dick" policy. That means you shouldn't take anything he takes seriously, ever
Man, fuck you.
-
SHUT UP YOU FUCKING PEOPLE WHO HAVE SEX WITH EACH OTHER!
-
.... right.
so today on the radio, I heard the Foo Fighter's new song a ton of times (they played it every hour at the top of the hour). And the first time I heard it, I wasn't too keen on it. But by the third time, I enjoyed it a bunch. So you can throw them into my short list, at least temporarily.
-
Uhm... The Offspring?
Agree. Also, Bill Talent, Sum 41 (Mostly for Canucks on those two), Queen, Gorillaz... They're what bring up my "mainstream percentage" on last.fm
-
Maybe those bands are only pretty big in America? I dont know. It is not like I am exactly all WOO WOO ALEX LLOYD WOO WOO SOMETHING FOR KATE in this thread.
But you want to be, just admit you listen to it. I can help you man, I can guide you through the terrible music.
-
Man, I don't even listen to the radio anymore... burnt cds FTW!!!!
So yeah, I like a lot of mainstream bands and techno/dance/electronica songs... so as far as 'indie cred' goes I don't have much, so my list would be long if I wanted to put all the bands I like, I'll just put a few.
Mindless Self Indulgence, A Perfect Circle, David Bowie, Stone Temple Pilots, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Korn, and basically every classic rock band of the 70s and 80s (NOT including hair/glam bands)
-
Crowded House
:-D
-
So I goes to the 'noone has heard of' thread and said porcupine tree
only to hear that many forum goers know them
so i'm going to say porcupine tree
also because i've forced everyone i know to know them
-
Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Fields of the Nephilim, KMFDM, Manic Street Preachers, The Magnetic Fields
My taste in music is pretty mainstream, so I could probably just say "all of them".
-
Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Pantera, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Muse.
I have only heard of one of those bands, and so therefore, you are disqualified. (I am sorry I am being a dick to you new guy, its just you were the first person to post after I decided to implement my new 'be a dick' policy)
Ive only heard of one of those bands too, and also how to disagree with warf.. nah, aint gonna happen :P
-
I guess MBV are pretty well known? I like MBV.
I'm a huge Metallica fanboy. I love Load and Reload heaps, though St.Anger was a bit disappointing (I still like it, though.)
Other stuff that I enjoy is Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Hendrix, most of the classic rock stuff (except Led Zep, I just can't seem to enjoy them, except for Immigrant Song and Black Dog).
Now for guilty pop pleasures:
All of Offspring Americana and before is stuff I enjoy.
Blink 182 and Korn were my favourite bands in year 8. Perhaps it's the Nostalgia element, but I still enjoy Korn's Follow the Leader, and a friend of mine plays Blink 182 and Millencolinwhenever we go to the beach for surfing. I enjoy it.
-
Maybe those bands are only pretty big in America? I dont know. It is not like I am exactly all WOO WOO ALEX LLOYD WOO WOO SOMETHING FOR KATE in this thread.
WOO WOO SOMETHING FOR KATE!!!!!11!!!
-
I only listen to bands first demo tape, and only if I'm the first person to hear it.
-
WOO WOO ALEX LLOYD
Man, you like Alex Lloyd? You're no longer allowed to make fun of any band I like, ever.
-
(except Led Zep, I just can't seem to enjoy them, except for Immigrant Song and Black Dog)
I never knew this was possible.
-
i listen to r.e.m.
and i'm not sorry about it.
-
I don't think you should be sorry about liking R.E.M. Sure there stuff these days dosn't quite match Automatic for the People buut they have still made some pretty awesome music.
A lot of my favourite bands people have heard of. I'm not lame enough to stop liking them because of it.
It appears waaaaaaay to many people on this forum are.
-
It appears waaaaaaay to many people on this forum are.
this is true. :)
-
BEASTIE BOYS
-
BEASTIE BOYS
yes.
-
THE USED....thats right I listen to the used :-D
-
WOO WOO ALEX LLOYD
Man, you like Alex Lloyd? You're no longer allowed to make fun of any band I like, ever.
I refuse to take that shit from somebody with Coheed and Cambria at number 10 on their most played list.
-
Franz Ferdinand is awesome. And also a band that has gotten me into a lot of what I love right now too.
