Title: Songs like Heavyweight Champion of the World

Y'all are music nuts with huge music-collections so I'm hoping one or two of you will be able and willing to recommend songs similar in style or feel to the above in order to save my soul from withering and dying :)

But Johnny's suggestion of The Automatic is a good idea too. If you're in the U.S. they're called The Automatic Automatic (if we are in fact talking about the same band).
