Alright, so this is my first time starting a thread.
I was just wondering what everyone's happy song is. It doesn't have to be a song about happy things. Sometimes sad songs make me happy. I've already discovered some new music just reading through these threads. Hopefully I get some new happy songs from you guys.
So, what song(s) make you happy? Old standbys. New favorites? I'll start.
Old standby: The Beatles - Good day Sunshine
I would have to be dead for that song not to cheer me up.
New favorite: Coconut Records - West Coast.
I love Coconut Records right now. The piano on West Coast makes me smile.
You?
-
Type O Negative - My Girlfriend's Girlfriend [Cheese Organ yo]
No srsly
-
Decemberists- The Crane Wife pt. 1.
Not just my happy song, but pretty much my everything song.
Also at the moment Daft Punk- Harder Better Faster. I literally can not sit still when that song is on. I've nearly crashed the car from getting too funk-ay while driving.
-
Boards of Canada- Dayvan Cowboy
and
Mogwai- Kids will be skeletons
There really isn't more to say. They just work.
-
I've nearly crashed the car from getting too funk-ay while driving.
Indeed. I have, as well. But I was listening to Rock Lobster. Man, that song is obnoxious.
Also, anything by Mates of State. So much happy.
-
When You Sleep by MBV always puts me in a good mood.
Also, Jesu's Transfigure, and Gong by Sigur Ros.
-
Hooray! Hoioray! Hooray by Dio Make Say Think is easily one of the happiest songs I've ever heard. Not only that, it's really good. Less jazzy and more electronica-y than most DMST, this song could make you smile at your parents' funeral. No joke.
-
Anything by King Diamond makes me happy. I love King Diamond.
-
Dio Make Say Think
this is a good combination
why have they not done this yet?
-
K.C. Accidental by Broen Social Scene
FUCK YEAH
-
Mine is probably 'National Express' by Divine Commedy.
-
NI DAODI AIZHE SHEI???!???! (http://www.sendspace.com/file/mhcrao)
This is mostly due to fond memories of my classmates acting like idiots. Good times.
-
'Down South Ten Hours' by All Girl Summer Fun Band. I believe that this song is actually pure happiness condensed down to its most potent form, and then parceled out in three-minute chunks for general consumption.
-
The acoustic version of 'Heartache every moment' by HIM, and 'My immortal' by Evanescence.
-
*looks askance*
Right now, it's 'Test Room' by Plus-Tech Squeeze Box.

You're going to have a hard time on here.
-
Bohemian Rhapsody never fails to put a smile on my face.
-
I saw this band last night open up for Daniel Johnston at Happy Happy Birthday to Me Records Athens pop fest called Eleki Bass. They're awesome feel good rag-timey rock and roll music.
-
Also,
Right now, it's 'Test Room' by Plus-Tech Squeeze Box.
Oooh, J-Pop!! Nice addition, I think. It did make me happy.
-
anytime "Young Folks" by Peter, Bjorn and John comes on the radio, it lights up my day. And I whistle along, and smile a bunch.
that's a happy song.
-
Bonobo - Flutter OR Grape Digging Sharon Fruits - Foliage
There are a lot more but those are the two that come to mind immediately.
-
Also, Anal Cunt cheers me up immensely. I'm not joking, either; Seth Putnams song titles are the best things ever written.
-
Grandaddy - AM 180. Which is strange, because it was meant to be sad, but everytime I hear it I think of children on playgrounds.
And Ob La Di, Ob La Da.
-

-
My old stand by would have to be Modest Mouse - Float On. Maybe overplayed, and maybe not that old, but it never fails to cheer me up!
Also, Islands - Rough Gem. If Islands can't make you smile, I'm pretty sure you are dead.
-
'bachelor pad' by 'lemon jelly'
-
"Mr. Tough" by Yo La Tengo and/or "Lady" by Styx.
-
"Transdermal Celebration" - Ween.
Seriously, with mutants you can't go wrong.
-
also, rubber by blownload
-

-
Oh man, I have far too many of these to list. Right now, I would have to say "Tiny Birds" by Yo La Tengo. I figured out the happy sounding riffs in the song by ear. It's really fun to play.
-
Fireworks - Animal Collective
Avril 14th - Aphex Twin
Strange Lights - Deerhunter
Confusion - Elliott Smith
Good Vibrations - Beach Boys
I Want to Be Cold - The Microphones
These songs all give me "happy shivers". It's probably the feeling of all the happy emotions I keep bottled up that make me want to jump around and punch sad people in their stupid crying faces, for they should know that I'm listening to some of the happiest songs and sobbing's not allowed.
-
Do you Realize??
Either that, or Huddle Formation- The Go! Team
(http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/95/Don%27t_Stop_Believing.jpg)
That too.
-
anytime "Young Folks" by Peter, Bjorn and John comes on the radio, it lights up my day. And I whistle along, and smile a bunch.
that's a happy song.
It's also possibly one of the most boring peices of shit every produced for listeners.
-
No Cars Go by The Arcade Fire is always nice.
-
Its a toss up between;
nothing but a good time - poison
or
La grange - ZZ top
-
"Stratford-On Guy" by Liz Phair or "Scattered" by Green Day
-
elevate myself - grandaddy.
c'mon. it's beepy.
-
Right now it's Itchycoo Park by The Small Faces.
A week ago it was Cantaloop (Flip Fantasia) by Us3. Although the fact that that was the only decent track they ever put together is a bit depressing.
-
There are several, but the first one that popped into my mind was Queen - Don't Stop Me Now.
-
My Best Friends Girl - The Cars
and also the album Who Will Cut Our Hair When We're Gone by The Unicorns. that whole album gets me pretty happy.
-
The Beatles - "Here Comes the Sun," "Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da"
Donovan - "There is a Mountain," "Barabajagal"
Arlo Guthrie - "Alice's Restaurant"
Masters of Reality - "The Desert Song," "The Ballad of Jody Frosty"
-
"Always look on the Bright Side of Life" - Monty Python
"Local Bear" by Stripper's Union always gets me dancing though.
-
Jonathan Edwards - "Sunshine"
-
Shit. I'm sure there is a better one but I'm gonna be a tool and say Hero and Rogue World Asylum by Machinae Supremacy.
-
"I am the Resurrection" by the Stone Roses. Especially the second half of the song.
And also the title track from Belle and Sebastian's "The Boy with the Arab Strap" will always make me smile. Actually, most of Belle and Sebastian's songs work for that, really.
-
David Allen Coe - You Never Even Call Me By My Name
I spend my offtime at a bar in rural atlanta. Cut me some slack
-
This thread might be dying so, before it does, thanks for all the new happy songs. I even ended up making a new "Happy Song" mix with some additions from this thread. Also, I'm not sure why I didn't mention it before, but Generation by Johnny Boy is ridiculously happy. I finished off the mix with it. Construction and traffic were angering me today when Generation came on and all the cars just seemed to part before me.
Thanks again!
-
have to go with journey - don't stop beleivin
also
ted leo and the pharmacists - where have all the rude boys gone?
pantera - fucking hostile - this was the first song I put on after I passed my GCSEs years ago and I've always had it as kind of a victory song :D
coheed and cambria - a favour house atlantic
-
Two words...
Boogie Shoes.
Also, The Eels - Fresh Feeling
-
I was fairly unhappy yesterday, and when both of these songs eventually came on when iTunes was on shuffle it made me much happier instantly:
Blue in the Face - Alkaline Trio
A Favor House Atlantic - Coheed and Cambria
-
Currently, it's D.A.N.C.E. by Justice.
-
I'm going to have to log in either "Drunk Teenagers" by Joel Plaskett Emergency or "Roygbiv" by Boards of Canada. Fun songs.
-
Old classic-y guy songy thingy- Mindless Self Indulgence's... Well. Anything, really.
New temporary helper guy thingy- Screaming Mechanical Brain's The End... Tis Rising In Squares. (T.E.T.R.I.S)
-
haha i totally agree on this. that song just makes me want to get wasted and sing as loudly as i can in my best friend's ear.
shadow stabbing by cake always gets me happy, plus it makes me want to write.
ted leo's biomusicology has caused me to hit euphoria on a few occasions.
-
Black Star - Radiohead
Never fails to make me smile.
-
The Wildhearts - "I Wanna Go Where The People Go"
-
Hmmm...anything by Brendan Benson. His music is cheesy, yes, but it makes me happy.
-
I'm changing mine. It's either "A Gentleman Caller" by Cursive, or anything off of Fugazi's 13 Songs
-
Shoulders of Giants by Last Exit :-D
-
The Zombies - "Odessey and Oracle" has some pretty happy songs on it. Only one or two that aren't so happy.
I recommend newer Deerhoof and all They Might Be Giants. Though their lyrics are often not happy (though not particularly sad) their music is often upbeat.
The Fiery Furnaces are often happy. Birdie Brain is like musical Dr. Pepper. Animal Collective's album "Feels" is like a happygasm. Cheer, happy, rah, rah, rah.
Also check out Joy Division. They have the word "joy" right in their name. Also I hear a lot of long hairs like them.
-
Oh god, the Fiery Furnaces are so freaking happy.
-
Jason Webley - Eleven Saints
it doesn't have ultra happy lyrics or smthin like that, but it's very cute melody,
and I feel good listening to it.
-
"It'5" - Architecture in Helsinki
Can music GET anymore cheerful.
(Notice i said music)
-
Hi-tek: The Sun God. :-)
