I saw these guys for the second time at McCarren Park Pool, opening for Ted Leo at a free show, and was very, very into their set. They actually sound a bit like Ted Leo himself.
Have they been around for a while, or are they just sort of getting big now?
BrooklynVegan has pretty pictures (http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2007/08/the_thermals_pl_1.html#more).
EDIT: I see from wikipedia that they've been around since 2002. Any of you fans?

I saw them last year with Cursive. I'm not a fan, but they put on a good show, so I can't really say anything bad about them, well other than the fact that they brought a big high school crowd, which was kinda lame, but those kids all left after they played, so I guess I can't complain.
But yeah, they got the crowd excited, and that's always cool.

That hasn't been the only other thread (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,12735.0.html) about the Thermals!

I'm working my way throught their albums. The Body, the Blood, the Machine is definitely my favorite so far, but I do like some of the other two albums. Their albums are so lo-fi that it's easy to prefer the live performances of the same songs though.

Dude! I was at that show too! They were really amazing, the whole show was. I've also been listening to The Body, The Blood, The Machine a lot since, really enjoying it.
-
Fuckin' A was their best, methinks.
Body Blood blah blah blah was okay but definitely a step down.

Yeah, Seger's production on that album left a lot to be desired. I guess when you spend as much time with the band as he has, you get a little bored with them, y'know?

I hate The Thermals, and I think everyone else should too.

Why? I was listening to them for the first time the other day and "A Pillar Of Salt" is one of the catchiest damn songs I've heard in a while.

I was on their Myspace, and two of their songs are exactly the same. I just don't like the sound.
