Oh man, guys, I have a dilemma. I have wanted to play Supreme Commander ever since I heard about it, but I hear it is a massive resource hog. Still, I hear that it's also a fantastic game, and everything I've read about it makes me drool. Huge-scale battles, good unit balance, good multiplayer, emphasis on tactics over city-building and resource-gathering. . . the list goes on. Now, I'm getting a new computer, and it's pretty much a gaming laptop, but I still don't know how well I'd be able to run Supreme Commander. Another RTS I am considering getting instead if I determine that Supreme Commander is too much for my comp to handle is Medieval 2: Total War. I have been playing Rome: Total War for quite awhile now, and it is a darn good game, featuring, again, tactics over micromanagement, blah blah, the stuff I like. Still, the general consensus in the gaming world seems to be that SC is the best strategy game out there right now. I dunno, what do you guys think?

Get it!
That laptop should be able to slaughter it at the highest settings. If not, with a few little details cut down and it will run smooth as butter.
-
You really think so? I'm just worried.

I play it with maxed out settings on my desktop with these specs with no issues at all.
20.1" LCD 1680x1050 native res
Dual Core AMD 2.3ghz
2048 DDR PC3200
8800 GTS 640MB
With the exception of the video card, we have practically the same setup so I have no qualms saying you'll be perfectly fine with the game maxed or near maxed.

Alright. Cool. I'm sure my rig will be able to handle it. I may not be able to run it quite as well as you do, mainly because your card is 128mb more powerful as mine, but it's nice to hear I will at least be able to run it smoothly at max or near max settings.
question: how is the online multiplayer? I hear the game has a steep learning curve. Basically, I'd like you to tell me everything you can about the game as long as you are willing to and it is convenient ('cause I'm not a selfish asshole or anything). :)

The learning curve is definitely steep. If you've played total Annihilation you'll have the basic idea down though.
The single player campaign is pretty fun and a good introduction to all of the games units, but it's not a good thing to compare to the skirmish mode, and especially the online mode. Online is rough, and I suck terribly when playing humans, but it's a lot of fun.
One important thing to get down is make sure you're always building something. ALWAYS. There's an infinite queue button at production buildings for a reason.

That has some good tips concerning things, Otherwise, look for videos of recorded combats and pay attention to the strategies. There's a hell of a lot of possibilities with the number of units in the game and how the developers utilized their abilities.
