New season of the Sarah Silverman program is coming in october! I'm a huge fan but, what do you think?
-
sarah silverman is not funny. she has her rare moment where i may crack a smile, but overall, i just think she's obnoxious.
-
I agree with Pen.
Least funny person I've ever seen. I scoff involuntarily every time one of the ads for her show comes on.
-
Indeed. Totally not funny. I think she's entirely obnoxious. I've never liked her and I don't like her show.
-
Wow!
Am I the only one who find her funny?
-
Yes. Yes you are.
-
At first, I thought she was a little funny.
Then I watched her show.
I realized that she's just weird. Very, very weird.
-
why must comedy central keep promoting her's and Carlos Mencia's shows?
why I ask you?
-
Heyy, there ya go. She's funnier than Carlos Mencia. But he's in the negative.
-
I thought Jesus is Magic was funny, but I've had my doubts about the show. Though it is pretty good, I think (but I could totally understand why someone would hate it).
-
Yes, I understand why people hate it too....
because they're dead inside <.< >.>
-
sarah silverman is not funny. she has her rare moment where i may crack a smile, but overall, i just think she's obnoxious.
I must agree with the exact sentiment. I find her mostly obnoxious in the way that she seems to think she's really hilarious, but occasionally she'll extract a smile or single syllable chuckle from me. Overall I was wishing her show wouldn't do well, but it did well enough for another season.
Carlos Mencia is still the scum of the comedy world, right down there with Larry the Cable Guy, and no one could be as reprehensible as them.
-
it really is too bad that Sarah Silverman isn't funny because she's definitely a babe but she's not funny enough for me to watch her. even on mute.
-
Okay another question,
Do you like any female comedians?
I ask this because whenever I ask someone if they like the Sarah Silverman program they so no, then I ask them this and they just stare. Contemplating if they ever laughed at a female comedian.
We should turn this forum into, "The comedians with vaginas appreciation club"
-
There are no female comedians.
If you get that joke, I love you.
-
i laugh at females all the time. just not the comedians.
-
Man how dare you people even THINK about using Carlos mencia and Sarah Silverman in the same sentence(Dur). Sarah Silverman is all kinds of funny, especially compared to Carlos Mencia and other Comedy Central programming. Her show is one of the only good things on television (I don't watch television unless I plan on laughing, by the way.)
-
Do you like any female comedians?
yes, yes i do. my favorites are wanda sykes and ellen degeneres. there are people that are funny, and there are people that are not. sarah silverman is not.
-
I don't like Sarah Silverman, but there's plenty of female comedians I've enjoyed.
There's one whose name I really, really wish I hadn't forgot, but she had a Comedy Central special where she actually spent 5 minutes talking about Final Fantasy Legend. It was the most obscure video game reference I had ever witnessed on TV and I was in love.
-
yes, yes i do. my favorites are wanda sykes and ellen degeneres. there are people that are funny, and there are people that are not. sarah silverman is not.
LOL
-
What pen said.
-
I agree with Pen too. Ellen in particular is one of my favorites --and just 'cause she sleeps with other girls doesn't mean she's not a woman. Cripes.
Kathy Griffin can be funny sometimes too, when she's not being...you know...shrill. There are others, but I'll have to look them up 'cause I can't think of their names right now.
Edit to add: Omigod... Whoopie Goldberg. Now -there- is a funny woman. Can't believe I spaced her.
-
Kristen Schaal anyone?
OR
Maria Bamford?
I personally dont like Ellen or Wanda Sykes that much, They're funny and all. But I feel they cant get all knitty gritty because of their whole "family friendly" public appearance... Does that make sense?
-
I think Ellen does exactly the style of comedy she wants to do. I don't think it has anything to do with maintaining her public appearance. Her comedy style is just not... nitty gritty, I guess.
Wanda Sykes is WAY too loud for me to listen to for too long. Love her on Curb Your Enthusiasm, though.
-
I disagree Mr/Ms.Betty. Ellen got her sitcom cancelled for going to a nightclub, or so I heard.
I dont know if thats true at all actually, but I think I got it from somewhere...
-
What? I have no idea what you're talking about.
Also, I'm a chick. If I were a dude, I would be way too macho to have the name Betty on a forum. At least, I'd like to think I would be.
-
Also, click people's names. It takes you to their profile. Many people say what gender they are on there.
-
Anyway...
Ellen's sitcoms were canceled for the same reason most are canceled --a low number of viewers. Her talk-show seems to be doing very well, though I haven't watched it because I don't really like talk-shows that much... but it's been on for quite some time now, and she really seems to enjoy doing it.
-
Oh sorry madam!
Hmm, Thats probably the reason why. I just heard ya know!?
Oh! Margret Cho and Lisa Lampenelli are funny. So is Tina Fey
-
Her talk show makes me laugh. And she dances around, which I find incredibly amusing. She's a funny lady, and I think she's one of the better female role models out there right now.
-
Some people would like you to believe that he sitcom was canceled because she came out as a lesbian, but I'm not sure it was as much as all that. It probably was actually due to low viewership. I think her sitcom and her talk show are both pretty funny. I just generally enjoy her personality.
I have the "I <3 Ellen" shirt.
Got it years ago.
-
Tina Fey
I hate you.
Tina Fey is a good writer, I will give her that. I loved the seasons of SNL when she was writing, but as for when she actually came on the show and started being an actress...
I hate her. I hate her so much.
However, I love her hair and glasses for some reasons...bizarre.
-
I never said Ellen wasnt funny/a good rolemodel/lawful good. I think shes funny, shes my favorite talkshow host (well, next to Rachel Ray) but she doesnt make me laugh out loud as other comedians do.
PQ4, Shes not the BEST actress, I dont know how she was on SNL but I think shes funny on her show "30 Rock".
-
Rachel Ray? Wasn't her face on Wheat Thins packages like a month ago?
-
Yes, I do believe she was.
Rachel Ray is everything and everywhere. Ever hear of "Big Brother"? Well, the feds call it "Rachel Ray"
-
She's not quite everything. She's not a comedienne, for instance.
-
She isnt a comedian, but the topic was guided to Rachel Ray. Like how I guided the Sarah Silverman Program topic to Women Comedians
-
I've never watched Rachel Ray's talk show (like I said, totally not into talk-shows. I loathe listening to people sit and talk about crap I don't usually care about), but I -do- enjoy watching her 30 Minute Meals on Food Network. The woman -always- has a smile on her face and always seems to genuinely like everything that she does. Love Rachel Ray.
And I didn't say you -did- say anything about Ellen, WTG, I hate you because you brought up Tina Fey. And it's not real hate, just metaphorical hate...or whatever.
-
I like watching Ray's 30 minute meals show... but I honestly wonder about the deliciousness of her food. I have a problem trusting skinny cooks.
-
I like watching Ray's 30 minute meals show... but I honestly wonder about the deliciousness of her food. I have a problem trusting skinny cooks.
Her food is very delicous, My mother always makes her meals and they are highlights of my day. We had this awesome openfaced sandwhich that had some sort of meat on top and then an egg. I forgot, something cuban. But it was a BLD served with this mint tea that is usually an alchoholic beverage. Shes amazing, If I got to choose someone to spy on me 24 hours a day to protect the secruity of this nation, it would be Rachel Ray
-
Really? I don't think she's that skinny. She's not fat, of course, but she's got some...thickness. The only thing that bugs me about her (and it bugs me a lot) is how she says "EVOO" and the always follows it with "Extra Virgin Olive Oil." Either say the abbreviation, or say the whole thing! If you don't think people are going to get the abbreviation, then why bother with it?
That is all.
Also, I really can't think of any other comediennes I like. That's odd.
-
She's "normal-shaped."
I'm used to a large Italian woman shoving the most wonderful food at me.
Wait, this thread is about comediennes. She's not one of those.
TWG: the term for "female comedian" is comedienne. Just fyi. It's French.
-
fine I'll change the fucking topic again
-
You mean, againne.
-
um, I was just letting you know... no need to get all... "rwar."
oh! I like Lucille Ball! She was a good comedienne.
-
yes, the best and most famous actually.
Shes the one that came up with the invention that is called "Women with jokes on the tv"
-
Betty- that made me laugh. Thank you.
-
yeah me too, you comedienne you.
-
Aw, shucks, guys. :-)
Also, Joan Rivers used to be really funny. My dad was a fan of her stand-up back before she started slinging celebrity gossip and hocking plastic jewelry on television.
-
Ruby Wax should die. Slowly.
-
hocking plastic jewlery? Please tell!
oh, I think its spelled hawking by the way, but I dont know this french you talk about
Everyone love italics...
-
I kind of want her to be go dumb and THEN die a slow death.
-
It's probably not wise to be narky with established members of the forum if you plan to be enjoying any sort of extended stay here.
(note: by established i mean they have been here longer and are more popular amongst other forumites than you).
-
I dont mean to be rude, but isnt narkiness the whole esscence of QC?

I do believe that it is snarky.
-
I meant narky, as in irritable. Snarky would do too, however.

hawking

There are two smiles on this page, and they both look the same.
Just sayin'.
-
*scrolls up and down a couple times*
That's delicious.
-
Weird!! I wish I could say I chose that photo on purpose.
-
Does anyone remember Wendy Liebman? I always liked her.
-
My favourite comediennes are Sarah Kensington and Cal Wilson (http://youtube.com/watch?v=nSh-ngoUzAc), though since she started doing the Wedge and hosting some bullshit radio show on MMM she has gone waay downhill. Maria Bamford (http://youtube.com/watch?v=T_zzOtrK0io) is really good too.
-
You guys, Sarah Silverman is pretty great.
-
You guys, Sarah Silverman's rack is pretty great. She's a fucking awful excuse for a comedian, though.
-
Why is Sarah Silverman so great? Elaborate! Please?
People, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oouelfH_LQ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oouelfH_LQ)
You make your own call. The reason I don't like this (or any of her stand up) is that all she ever does is say really gross or potentially offensive things. I am 100% behind saying gross or offensive things for the sake of comedy. I am not easily offended by any means. If it's clever or funny enough, you can say anything to me and I'll crack up. I don't think she's funny. She rarely turns the gross or offensive things she's saying into actual jokes. All she does is say them out loud. Like it's supposed to be hilarious that a hot girl can get away with saying anything she wants without it having to be funny. It's stupid.
-
You guys, Sarah Silverman's rack is pretty great. She's a fucking awful excuse for a comedian, though.
Perhaps you think you are more clever than you actually are.
-
She rarely turns the gross or offensive things she's saying into actual jokes.
"Honestly, I don't care if you think I'm racist. As long as you think I'm a thin racist." That's funny, especially the way she says it.
-
Think nothing, I AM clever. The fact of the matter is, Sarah Silverman, though cute, really isn't particularly funny. Betty put it pretty succinctly, she doesn't tell jokes so much as try to push the envelope just for the sake of pushing it and manages to get by on that in the same manner that Carlos Mencia and Dave Chapelle do. None of them are particularly engaging, original or conventionally funny, they just get by on the "Oh no, you di'eeeeent" factor.
Everything Mencia does, Pablo Francisco does better; everything Chapelle does, Chris Rock does better and everything Silverman does, Janeane Garofalo does better. Fortunately for Mencia, Chapelle and Silverman, none of the three have the vaguest bit of artistic integrity and have no issue with doing this shit that's completely lacking in substance.
-
I hate Carlos Mencia, so let's just get that straight. I like Chapelle and Silverman.
What do you consider jokes if you don't think what they're doing is telling jokes?
-
I always liked Paula Poundstone and Judy Tenuta.
-
I hate Carlos Mencia, so let's just get that straight. I like Chapelle and Silverman.
What do you consider jokes if you don't think what they're doing is telling jokes?
Something that's legitimately funny as opposed to just stringing obscenities and vulgarity together for the sheer shock value of it, something all three of them tend to do. Obscenities and vulgarities are fine, but when there's no substance beyond them it loses its allure right quick. Dane Cook is actually fast down the road to this problem.
-
Dane Cook has rarely even been chuckle-worthy at any point in his career, anyway.
Still, Silverman and Chapelle tell jokes. I really don't know how you can't think they're funny. I love when Chapelle tells the story of the hobo that held everyone up on a bus by whipping out his junk. Vulgar? Yes. Hilarious? That too. It's not simply profanity for profanity's sake, it's one of the oddest situations that you can possibly think of.
-
I'm watching a youtube video of Sarah Silverman. She's not as bad as everyone says. Somethings she says are not that funny but for the most part she is not that offensive.
-
Can we please just stop comparing Carlos Mencia to any other comedian, since he isn't really a comedian at all? Kthnkx.
Anyway Maria Bramford FTW.
-
If I didn't know better, I'd say the anti-Chapelle and Silverman crowd are using association tactics, listing Mencia wherever Chapelle and Silverman are also listed. But as I said, I know better. That would be me being paranoid.
-
I really like Sarah Silverman. I like her stand up better than her show, but i still watch. I would like to see her beat up Rachael Ray.
She is also a good looking gal, but she has been dating Jimmy Kimmel for a long time.... and he is not a good looking guy. Crazy.
-
Kristen Schaal anyone?
OR
Maria Bamford?
Yes.
Oh sorry madam!
Hmm, Thats probably the reason why. I just heard ya know!?

No.
(but I do like Mean Girls and 30 Rock)
-
Kristen Schaal is hilarious
She totally has that whole "subtle comedy" thing going on for her.
-
wtf? no one picked
(http://www.speakers.ca/speakers/images/speakers/holmes_jessica_lg.jpg)
Jessica Holmes???
funny and hawt
-
I've always liked Tina Fey, especially when its the dry fake serious stuff they do on SNL from time to time. Though I haven't watched that show in ages...it just seemed stupid after a while.
And I liked Sarah Silvermans bit in Aristocrats, I agree she can be obnoxious but she can also be soo funny ... and the hit and miss quality could have something to do with the fact that shes INSANE.
Then of course Ellen, the broadway special a while back was great. And there was this comedian I heard along time ago Elvira something maybe, she had a great bit about lawn darts. I also quite like the woman on the daily show right now.
-
the "daily show woman" is pretty funny.
Would Jenna Fischer be considered a comedian or just an actress?
-
Sarah Silverman was pretty funny at the VMAs the other day. Yeah I watched some of them, wannafightaboutit?
I was just backstage talking to Cee-Lo and he said the most interesting thing: "I'm Kanye West."
-
Anyway Maria Bramford FTW.
QFT
-
My boyfriend thinks that Tammy Pescatelli is funny, but I think he may just think she is hot.
As for me, I think that Lucille Ball was a laugh riot, and possibly the funniest person ever. I also like Margaret Cho and I used to like Tracey Ullman. I haven't seen the latter in a long time though.
-
I don't like Sarah Silverman, but there's plenty of female comedians I've enjoyed.
There's one whose name I really, really wish I hadn't forgot, but she had a Comedy Central special where she actually spent 5 minutes talking about Final Fantasy Legend. It was the most obscure video game reference I had ever witnessed on TV and I was in love.
That's Jackie Kashian! I heart her. (BTW, is it bad that I immediately knew who you were talking about? I love that CCP special.
("I am a grown woman, and I need to shoot sh*t. It's best that it be done fictionally.")
At the risk of being shunned by everyone here, I'm a huge Janeane Garofalo fan. I recently saw her perform live this past March (the second time I've seen her live; the first was five years ago) and thought she was still very funny.
I like Tina Fey a lot. And Amy Poehler, Amy Sedaris, Lizz Winstead, Elvira Kurt, Maria Bamford, and a few others whose names, at the risk of sounding like Alberto Gonzales, I can't recall.
Also, Sarah Silverman is kind of pretty (if nothing else, her hair is beautiful and I wish I had black hair--I have it dyed but I wish it were naturally black), but she's not funny to me at all.
-
Oh my gosh! How could I forget about Amy Sedaris?? I absolutely love her. She is great,
-
Amy Sedaris is cool too
-
Kathleen Madigan is a good female staundup comic. Adele Givens is a funny female comic. Sue Murphy is a funny female comic. Retta is a funny female comic. Jackie Kashian is a funny female comic. Maria Bamford is a funny female comic.
Sarah Silverman is not funny. Sarah Silverman's standup is mediocre at best and her show makes me weep for cable television. Saying things that are either absurd or "pushing the envelope" in a precocious baby voice just doesn't strike me as being all that entertaining. She is successful because she is cute, but let's be honest. How hard is it to be cute if your profession is female comedian? You're up against Roseanne and Joan Rivers.
And to those who mentioned Jackie Kasian before me, what about her talking about war reinactment nerds? That made me absolutely howl. "Jackie Kashian puts out for pelts"
-
I must admit that I laughed way too hard at the episode with the queefing ghost, but other than that I agree with the majority on this one. Especially since I know a woman who's equally filthy, five times as beautiful, and infinitely funnier. Kate Mulligan...everything Sarah Silverman thinks she is and more.
But since none of you know Kate Mulligan, everything I've just said is basically meaningless.
-
That's Jackie Kashian! I heart her.
Thank you! You are now my new favorite person!
-
That's Jackie Kashian! I heart her.
Thank you! You are now my new favorite person!
Huzzah! Oh, and two others that I forgot that someone else mentioned above are Kathleen Madigan (I could see her in my head but couldn't think of her name) and Sue Murphy.
-
Jackie Kashian is meh
-
Tina Fey gets a free life pass for featuring a character on 30 Rock whose sole purpose is to illuminate how much of a stupid douchebag Jimmy Fallon was on SNL.
-
Guys, I don't know who the fuck Sarah Silverman is, but I bet she's a floating piece of shit compared to Fiona O'Loughlin.
Yes, I know most of the time she talks about her kids and how she's the worst mother in the world, but it is hilarious. I've been watching the Melbourne comedy festival gala DVD and most of the time I just skip past everybody except her, Arj Barker and Tripod.
-
Comedy Gala DVD? Where can I obtain such a thing?
Fiona O'Loughlin is hilarious. I also Like Cal Wilson, she's pretty funny too.
-
Cal Wilson is painfully hit or miss with me. Half her jokes are hilarious, half her jokes are just idiotic gags about how she's a kiwi. Also after seeing her with a passable aussie accent in Skithouse, her NZ accent kind of bugs me.
And as for the DVD, I don't know where you can get it, it just turned up here one day,
Also. who is the bright red haired woman who I see sometimes on the comedy channel? She's a fucking riot. She's about late 20's by the look of her, bright red hair, australian, kind of crass, and funny as shit.
-
Victoria Wood.
That woman makes me laugh. She's my top comedian, male or female, and her shows and songs make me laugh. There's someting about her that makes you not realise she's being as dirty as she is, and it all seems quite innocent, whereas if someone else was to say it, it would sound far more rude. She's also very quick witted and works well in many different situations. Her stand-up, acting, and music are all glorious.
-
i would say that even yoko ono has more comic value than sara silverman, if just in being offensive, with statements like "women are the worlds niggers"
and the way she dress is funny to, sara silverman is just hot
is she jewish by the way?
-
I have to ask this. I have a preference for angry comedy in the vein of early Denis Leary and Lewis Black. Are there any good comediennes (or however the hell you spell that damn word) that do good angry comedy?
-
Janeane Garofalo is one of the bigger angry female comedians. While she doesn't get as lit-up livid as the likes of Black of Leary, she gets some pretty good rage now and again.
-
Thank you for the reminder. She is probably my favorite coumeiadiyanneyenene... "lady of comedy". I don't know why the movies she is in are such failures.
mumble grumble dammit I LIKED Mystery Men...
-
Also. who is the bright red haired woman who I see sometimes on the comedy channel? She's a fucking riot. She's about late 20's by the look of her, bright red hair, australian, kind of crass, and funny as shit.
Could be Sarah Kensington... Possibly the funniest stand up comic male or female that I have ever seen.
-
mumble grumble dammit I LIKED Mystery Men...
So did I. Not the best movie I've ever seen, but still very fun and "escapist." Plus, Tom Waits and Eddie Izzard are in it. You really can't beat that.
"Why don't you put some shorts on, or something, if you wanna keep fighting evil today?"
-
Speaking of Eddie Izzard I think he should count, so I vote for him. Executive Transvestite.
-
Or male lesbian.
-
I watched part of Sarah Silverman's Jesus is Magic last night, just to see what it was like. I only laughed once, at (this is paraphrased) "Jesus turned water into wine, and I think he made the Statue of Liberty disappear in the '80s." I didn't laugh after that. I turned it off after a half-hour.
(Why is it, though, that I was cracking up at Dave Chapelle's stand-up before that, even though he's foul-mouthed as well?)
-

I've been trawling the internet looking for a picture of her, but I can't find one anywhere, damnit.
-
I'm also with the Mystery Men crowd. It's one of the few movies that is exactly the same on LSD as it is normally.
To stay on topic, there was this big lesbian named Sabrina something, I always thought she was great.
-
In keeping with the topic,
Wanda Sykes, Whoopi Goldberg, Elvira Kurt, Ellen DeGeneres... and my mind's a blank...
-
To stay on topic, there was this big lesbian named Sabrina something, I always thought she was great.
Sabrina Matthews. I think she's funny.
-
Man, I really had to look for this name, Elvira Kurt. Unfortunately I only saw one special for her and nothing else. Now that I can put a name with a face I guess I can find more.
-
Guys, Claire Hooper.
Seriously.
