Title: Danceable female vocalists
Post by: sombrasoubrette on 26 Aug 2007, 11:47
Our dance company is hoping to do a performance with all female vocalists. Ideas?

Would I get punched in the face for suggesting Lily Allen?

Or even Amy Winehouse.

Gwen Stefani.

Basically any female vocalist who makes pop music.

*Punches Hillary in the face*

Yes. But it's over now. And it really wasn't so bad, was it?

Except for my black eye, and the pus coming from it...

I guess it wasn't all that bad.

Would M.I.A. work? Her new album is supposed to be stellar.

I tried to dance at a Ladytron show but all I got were nasty looks. Sad state of affairs, that. More people danced to Feist when I saw her live. That doesn't seem right.

Definitely in agreement on Peaches, though. She seems to get a lot of hate for some reason, though.

Lynx & Ram have some good songs to dance to. "Ghost Ship" is fun.

I back up the Le Tigre recommendations. If you can find the DFA remix of "Deceptacon" (sp?), all the better.

Hint: It is because she is pretty crap.

Depends on what sort of dancing it is. But not knowing what you're dancing to, I would suggest Bjork, Stereolab, Portishead, or Freezepop. Rilo Kiley would probably be good, too.

Justin Timberlake.
I c what u did thar.

I completely forget the joke I was trying to make when I posted that.  He does have female vocalists accompany him though.  At least he does in "Sexy Back" or whatever it's called.

blonde redhead?

Huh? There's maybe three songs by Blonde Redhead I could dance to, out of their entire discography. That last album had a few tracks you can dance to I guess, but all those tracks were sang by Amedeo.
Still, if you want to make a mix or playlist of dancey songs with female vocalist, Equus by Blonde Redhead is exactly what you're looking for. Just remember it's their wild card.

Here is the song:

Client (http://www.last.fm/music/Client).
Goldfrapp (http://www.last.fm/music/Goldfrapp).

I had some other ideas, but I'm on the way out to class, so I can't listen to their tracks to be sure right now.

Vengaboys!

Lol, I actually second this one, I have a soft spot for them, and tend to love bopping around to them, and do silly dance moves that get weird looks from people....
