So, what CDs have you gone out and bought, or downloaded, or whatever, recently, or just songs from CDs, for that matter? For me:
The New Pornographers - Challengers
Reel Big Fish - Monkeys for Nothin' And The Chimps For Free
PS Is there a thread like this already I don't know about?
-
A New Journey - Celtic Woman
David's Album - Joan Baez
Roses In The Snow - Emmylou Harris
An interesting batch, I think.
-
Most recent acquisitions were:
Painbastard - No Need To Worry
Painbastard - Overkill
Saw this guy at Infest (http://www.infestuk.com) over the weekend and he absolutely blew me away, not sure how I haven't heard this stuff before. Had an older album ages ago which didn't really grab me but the last 2 (these 2) are sublime.
Ulrich Schnauss - Far Away Trains Passing By
Ulrich Schnauss - Goodbye
I love 'A Strangely Isolated Place' so much that I didn't even bother checking to see if he had any other albums for ages. He does and they're amazing.
Northborne - Force It
Really energetic, danceable but satisfyingly dark album. Reminds me a bit of ASCII Disko. Which is a good thing.
Blaqk Audio - CexCells
It's the guy from AFI who've sucked for years and the title is a straight rip-off of an album from 10 years ago so I didn't really have high hopes for this release, but it's actually a real breath of fresh air, nice and original. There's the odd duff track where he forgets he's not in AFI anymore and it goes a bit ballady but generally it's a solid synth release.
-
Pinback - Autumn of the Seraphs.
Obviously, I didn't buy it. It's the last album I got.
I love it.
I think I just decided to listen to it right now.
-
Sad Sappy Sucker - Modest Mouse
I've gotten other CD's since, but SSS is the last one that I actually paid for...
-
Operation Ivy - Hectic
Hour of the wolf - Power of the wolf
Dance hall crashers - lockjaw
-
I think we kind of already have a thread for this.

-
sunset rubdown - random spirit lover
theres quite a few out there i'd like to pick up. if school didnt take every paycheck, i might buy them.
-
Yes. Please.
-
Last album I bought was Angra's Holy Land, about 2 years ago, and yes, it was on redbook.
-
This would be Galax's Never Ending Space Trackin. The artwork is amazing. The 'music' not as amazing, but still good. It's basically two japanese guys playing with a tape delay and ring modulator for an hour. Lots of epic swooooooshhhh and whatnot.
-
Challengers was the most recent album I obtained with the money spent and the legality and all that.
The newest album I have though is Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam.
-
I just got a bunch of albums in from Amazon, so, there are a few.
Silkworm - Developer
Chavez - Better Days Will Haunt You
Okkervil River - The Stage Names
Architecture in Helsinki - Places Like This
Mclusky - Mclusky Do Dallas
The National - Boxer
Battles - Mirrored
Big Black - Songs About Fucking
Belle and Sebastian - Tigermilk
-
The last I got was the new Okkervil River. John Allyn Smith Sails is, in my opinion, the single best song they have ever recorded. <3
-
Seriously, can we stop calling albums CDs now?
It was a shitty format and it is about to die a well deserved death anyhow. Let's be ahead of the curve with this one.
He's right. The last album I bought was either Spoon, admittedly on CD, or Fugazi, which was on vinyl.
Fascinatingly enough each is available in the other format. Yet in both forms they're referred to as "albums."

well the title of the thread does actually say cd
-
I bought the Silver Jews' Tanglewood Numbers, but that was only because I was given a twenty dollar Barnes and Noble gift card and I couldn't think of a book I wanted within that price range (now I want Moneyball, but how would I know then?).
-
well the title of the thread does actually say cd
Yes but fuck that.
I don't go to the record store to buy a CD any more than I go to Blockbuster to rent a DVD or to the library to get a paperback or to the art gallery to look at some drawings. I rent movies, I borrow books, I look at artwork and I listen to albums.
-
United Abominations by Megadeth
Funeral by Arcade Fire (having downloaded this ages ago I thought it would only be fair to give them the money for it)
-

well said.
-
The Cure - Greatest hits
Stevie ray Vaughn - Essential SRV
Both satisfactory albums, double CD of SRV for $12.50 is a killer price, some great live hendrix covers as well!
-
I've only ever bought one album, and it was a few months ago, it was the self named "Johnny Boy" album, I bought it becuase I love a song they do called
"you're the generation that bought more shoes, and you get what you deserve"
-a true statement, and a wonderful song.
It's available to listen to on their myspace shin-dig, I just can't remember the url, it's worth a listen methinks.
-
Bishop Allen: Bishop Allen & the Broken String.
Having heard a pre-release copy of it being played in my regular C.D. shop (sorry, "album shop") some months ago, and having long since forgotten all about it, I was in there the other day and one of the girls who works there said words to the effect of "Oh, by the way, that Bishop Allen C.D. you liked has come in" and showed it to me.
That's customer service, ladies and gentlemen.
-
Superbad - OST
-
(sorry, "album shop")
???
-
Man, I miss album shopping.
-
I bought Parker House and Theory- The Great Lavanchy at their show. It was awesome, therefore I supported them by buying a CD, which is, by association, awesome. I am fully satisfied.
-
Record store? Anyone?
-
David Ford - I Sincerely Apologise for all the Trouble I've Caused
Cursive - Happy Hollow
Anberlin - Cities
Biffy Clyro - Puzzle
-
Modeselektor - Hello Mom!
and soon to be:
Modeselektor - Happy Birthday!
-
Dresden Dolls- Yes, Virginia
Dresden Dolls- Dresden Dolls
Regina Spektor- Soviet Kitsch
-
The last CDs I bought were...
Neil Young and Crazy Horse- Zuma
The Velvet Undergroung- The Velvet Underground and Nico (to replace my messed up copy)
The Jam- This Is the Modern World
But, at the same time I aquired tons of new music through a file sharing thread on facebook and about fourteen burnt cds.

:)
-
Neutral Milk Hotel - In The Aeroplane Over the Sea
Pavement - Brighten The Corners
Got 'em both today.
-
Uhhhhhhhhh, was it "The Conquest" by All Left Out?
-
Last albums I bought were:
Pinback- Summer in Abandon
TV on the Radio - Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes
Cocteau Twins - Treasure
As for the last actual CD I bought; I'm pretty sure it was Rasputina - Frustration Plantation
-
the other day I picked up "Closing Time" by Tom Waits
-
Just got:
Liars - Liars in the mail yesterday. Awaiting Strawberry Jam and Shepherd's Dog and Cease to Begin, all on preorder. (First time I've purchased albums in almost a year.)
There are so many albums I need to purchase, especially after reading this thread. I don't own a copy of Aeroplane or any TVotR or Boxer or... Too damn expensive for my piddly paycheck, unfortunately.
-
Atreyu - The Best of Atreyu
Shiny Toy Guns - We Are Piolts
Sum 41 - Underclass Heros
It was all at the same time, the Atreyu Cd was pretty good, I don't mind it, Shiny Toy Guns is fun when I wanna bop along to something and go all *bouncy bouncy* . The Sum 41 one I'm dissapointed in. It sounds kinda like..... well crap since their last CD.
-
do you know what really sucks?
buying about 300 bucks worth of CDs and then having to sell them at a hastings for a grand total of 45 bucks because you're broke and need gas money to get home.
it still pains me so to have lost my CD collection
-
Man, I have to be straight with you, I don't know how you found the streangth to do that. I honestly could not do that My CD collection is like my baby. I do not lend out ANY of my CD's, I do not let anybody touch them, hell, I don't even let anybody touch the CD player that's playing them, and if they try to I flip out. But bro, I feel ya, just the thought of that parting pains me!
-
just bought both records of geoff berner..a fuckin funny jew with an accordian and a taste for whiskey
gotta say whiskey rabbi is a better album then the dance of the widow bride or whatever its called..

Yeah. I got Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1 Remastered recently. Impulse purchase.
-

Fugazi - Repeater (on vinyl)
Because why would I buy a CD when you can get a turntable for like £30.
-
The Sum 41 one I'm dissapointed in. It sounds kinda like..... well crap since their last CD.
Well yeah, seeing that Chuck was a pile of "HEY LETS TRY TO PLAY METALLICA RIFFS" crap, there's really nowhere to go but...into oblivion?
-
Why does this thread still exist?

to be honest...
it felt like my balls were being chopped off at that moment....
gah. never again.... never again.....
i'm just glad i didnt have to do something really drastic, like sell my guitar or bass
that would have totally castrated me
-
I think it was Reel Big Fish's "Our Live Album Is Better Than Your Live Album."
I really need to pick up the new The New Pornographers album though. That'll probably be the next one I buy.
-

While the only "instrument" I can play (sing?) is my voice, and I don't know how I can sepparate it from my body without going mute, I can feel your pain. Re-building a collection that size is going to take a lot of money, and I'm guessing that not all of them are even replaceable, I have some CD's like that. I'm still shuddering at even the the thought of having to give/sell my collecion... *huggles* there's some comfort for you, because you sound like you need it.
