So I've been listening to the Thermals and Sleater-Kinney a lot recently and they both have this very high energy sound that isn't just mad thrashing of instruments (usually) that really really bothers me about some punk/rock/alt music. Does anyone have suggestions for bands with the same kind of energy to help get me through the work day?

Have a listen to either Big Black, The Pixies, or Bloc Party.
Those are the first three bands that came to mind when I read the title.
-
Bear vs. Shark if you don't already.
-
You might dig the now-defunct Mon Frere.
-
Fucked Up - Hidden World
-
Despistado.
-
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Madonna, Source Tags And Codes
World/Inferno Friendship Society
-
Desaparecidos

The Fratellis. They may not be indie, but they make me happy.
And that's what it's all about, isn't it?
-
I have a Joe Satriani playlist made up for just such an occasion. Mostly from Surfing with the Alien, The Extremist, and Flying in a Blue Dream.
-
ooh listen to Lions on the Astroturf by Zibrazibra!

You will either shake your booty like you're Shakira, or find it incredibly obnoxious.

Failure!

Man... or Astroman?

I have found Mclusky to be awesome high energy music. Hmm, also, Ted Leo and The Pharmacists would work. I second the Pixies and Big Black.
I'm sure there's more that I'll remember later.
-
Despistado.
agreed.
Q And Not You are a little rockin most of the time (surprised no one else mentioned them yet), Rahim, Thunderbirds Are Now
-
Today I was listening to Scout Niblett and trying to think of a 'high energy' band, then I slapped myself.
Though she often has quiet moments, she can really beat the hell out of those drums, and her voice is fantastic.
I'm going to recommend her album 'I am' because it was the first one I heard and has several of my favourite songs of hers on it. It has a good number of loud bits too.
Her next album has had some great musicians contribute and help out, you should buy that when it gets released. She seems to be such a nice lady too. Do something nice for her.

Mclusky
Also, without venturing into hardcore or metal:
Le Tigre
Death From Above 1979
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Small Leaks Sink Ships
!!! (chk chk chk)
Les Savy Fav (particularly the second half of the last album)
Stiff Little Fingers (for your old skool punk needs)
Forward Russia
Art Brut
Gang of Four

My turn to be the lowbrow voice.
Early Ministry is good high-energy indulgence music. The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste especially.
Also, if you're a masochist, you can't go wrong with Andrew WK. Be careful as seriously considering this will prevent others from taking you seriously, ever.

I spontaneously thought of Architectures in Helsinki. Someone probably already mentioned them but I'm too lazy to read...
Bogdan Raczynski (hope the spelling's OK): it's like really loud electronic noise with nintendo and pokémon over a hardcore drum 'n' bass beat  And if you ever find one of his albums in a store near you, I won't believe you :-)

PUSSIES (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWmCNe6NG40).
-
At the Moment I'm listening to a band called The Photo Atlas. They're dance rock so they're bound to be high energy. The suggestions for Bear Vs. The Shark and The Pixies are worth being seconded too.
-
PUSSIES (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWmCNe6NG40).
Is it just me, or is that almost the same guitar line from Offspring -- Killboy Powerhead? That's kinda funny.

I've seen Motorhead live three times.
-
The music I play in my car tends towards being high energy music, whether it be metal (e.g. Motorhead), techno (e.g. Dyewitness), or high-speed pop (e.g. early XTC). Of the live bands I've seen, the one with the highest intensity would probably be The Datsuns, back in 2000 when they released their first single (though the drummer of The Melvins gets extra points for the fastest drumming I've ever seen at a gig).
However, I guess it all depends on what you're into.
-
I second the recommendation of The Photo Atlas, and would also suggest The Lillingtons - The Too Late Show, that's been keeping me going for the last couple of days and nights.
-
Fugazi. Start with '13 Songs' and move forward.
Seconded.
-
I second:
deciparacedos - read english, speak spanish
q and not u - no kill no beep beep
yeah yeah yeahs - fever to tell
foward russia - one through fourteen
and add:
maps and atlases (more technical than sleater-kinney, but still good fun) myspace.com/mapsandatlases (http://myspace.com/mapsandatlases)
cinemechanica (insane use of single drummer. great wall of sound) myspace.com/cinemechanica (http://myspace.com/cinemechanica)
hella - hold your horse is (their most accessible album in my opinion)
-
The Go! Team have just released a brand new album. It is wonderful and should satisfy all your high-energy music requirements.
-
Turisas
The Pixies
Hillstomp
Modey Lemon (self-titled album is the best)
