some comics just really suck lately.
name-dropping and political loathing hasnt appealed to anyone since 9/11/01.
any other things that annoy you?
-
Guest strips, because that means I have to wait until the next update for the story to keep going.
-
Not updating on a slated update day without a reason, for sure. Although I'd say that's more disappointment than a pet peeve.
My main pet peeve with webcomics is the name "webcomics". Honestly, who uses the "Web" anymore? It could only be worse if they were called Cybercomics. Or Digicomics.
"dotCom-ics", maybe?
-
Yeah.
Retarded political jokes
That word at the beginning of that sentence.
Please don't use it.
nope, i'm gonna use it. thanks.
-
I personally can't stand bad artwork in any sort of comic, but then again i'm pretty much an art nerd so no surprises there. I don't like literature that inspires no emotion in me whatsoever. If i don't laugh, cry or at least smile a little then the chances are i'm not going to be interested enough to continue reading.
-
My biggest webcomic pet peeve is people complaining about something they get for free.
-
Oh, we pay for it. Obsession is expensive. *points to various PA merch that cost me over $100 in one go*
-
Also this:

Is so untrue it makes me laugh just thinking about it. Have you EVER watched Fox News?

Oh man, that's meta.
-
Maybe it's because there are a lot of musical references that constitute QC punchlines, but I find it funny that no one chose the music option. This poll is also early in the game.
-
When an artist gets an idea that doesn't fit with their current characters, so they invent a new character... then repeat that several times till their cast becomes impossible to track.
-
I don't like it when an artist uses big blocks of writing to explain something, I do think, cut it down or add more panels. Also when an artist doesn't add more panels and in one panel the character conveys more than one emotion in their speech, but their look only displays one.
-
When the artwork isn't a magic-eye.
-
My biggest pet peeve, is when artists write that 'I spent my money buying a tattoo and can't pay to have the comic up anymore, be back in July' and then never pick the comic back up again. So Common So Cheap did something like this and it makes me so angry. I loved that comic just as much as QC.
-
Honestly, Something Awful and "John Solomon (http://badwebcomics.blogspot.com/)" have pretty much ruined webcomics for me.
Sucks.
-
when noone reads your web comic :|
I think that should be a choice.

wait wait. lemme guess. "you read news online."
-
I would venture that political loathing, in all its forms, is in the thick of a renaissance at the moment.
-
I think his point was that people obviously care about it, seeing as it's being run a lot on one of the biggest news broadcasters in the USA, not to make you look like an idiot.
my point was, people are sick of it. we get it. liberals are unhappy.

This response makes no sense to me.

MY point was, you're making an incredibly broad generalization about literally everyone who reads webcomics and as such it is almost guaranteed to be inaccurate. I believe the popularity of things like the Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Ted Rall cartoons, and (on the other side of the coin) Mallard Fillmore (ugh) basically disproves your statement.

Does "illegible font/text" fit under artwork?
-
'kay, no offense intended against anyone but this thread is getting pretty ridiculous. Could we just... Let it slide? or something?
it is. it wasnt my intent to start anything political. it just so happened that the last 5 or so comics were constantly dissing republicans, and it just gets old, so i added it to the poll. i could really care less to argue about anything on here. consider it "slid." "slided."
i like making up words.

sporadic updates
"John Solomon (http://badwebcomics.blogspot.com/)"
wow, he really dislikes many webcomics
-
I don't really like it when topical celebrity humor is thrown in, for lack of better humor.
If I wanted to read or hear redundant celebrity put-downs, I'd turn on the TV or buy a magazine.
I think it takes away from the timeless feel of a comic, if you're going through the archives and read something that was funny that one month in '98.
-
I'm just going to jump in and add my two cents to clare's complaint of political discourse in a webcomic.
It is annoying when it seems to come out of nowhere, e.g. when Joe and Monkey just turned into Zach ranting about Republicansh for a week or two. I read Joe and Monkey to see hijinks, not political commentary from a webcomic author. It's one thing if you're in it because you want political commentary, like Colbert or Mallard Fillmore, it's another if you just want a talking monkey <insert Bush joke.>
Still, whatever, it's a rare occurrence.
Also, yeah. That dude really hates a lots of webcomics. But his non-ad hominem arguments are sound.
-
I voted bad art. There is a lot of crap art out there yea, but when your comic has been around for years and your "style" hasn't evolved much beyond adding colour... Maybe you should invest in some art classes at the local community college.
Also, can I say neverending overlapping plots? Cuz there's a couple comics I used to read that got so complicated to follow without re-reading the archives monthly I just bailed out.
-
No wai. this thread is useful for up and coming webcomicists.
-
Yeah I think this one has run its course.
MY BIGGEST WEBCOMIC PET PEEVE IS NOT ENOUGH GRAPHIC ANAL SEX IN KIT & KAY KABOODLE
