Title: references in m.i.a. songs
Post by: kitschykat on 07 Sep 2007, 09:02
okay so I heard the Pixies lyrics in $20 (Where is My mind?). Also the Paper Planes line with the shooting and the cash register ringing is sort of like that song from a while ago that's like, "All I wanna do is a bang bang bang and a boom boom" or whatever the hell it is.

Are there any other references in either of her albums?

"All I wanna do is a bang bang bang and a boom boom"

Wreckx-N-Effect  - Rump Shaker

"All I wanna do is zoom-zoom-zoom-zoom and a boom-boom / Just shake your rump"

respect your past.

Wait are the cash register and shooting noises actually in the song?  I heard that song at the store and assumed it was bleeping out her naughty language as she shouted fuck fuck fuck.

Are you telling me thats not all she wants to do?

Nah, the shots are part of the song. The paper planes beat is sampled off of "Straight to Hell" by the Clash, for those who didnt already know.
On of the verses on the 9th song she does all those abbreviations too. The only two I remember though is R.E.M. and BBC.

This cd is awesome
