The Essex Green?

Also, the Zebras have not played a show that I have been aware of in Brisbane in ages and this disappoints me a whole bunch.

Metric!

Only Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? fits in this, I think. Live It Out is a lot more "RARHRHHRH WE'S ROCK BAND."

Broken Social Scene isn't really indie pop.

Rilo Kiley is more Twee, I think.

Islands suck.

Exploding Hearts, if you wanna go the Power Pop route.

Also Circulatory System, but they're more Lo-Fi psychedellic pop.

I like Islands a bunch

That doesn't make them good, you know.

When people counter the assertion that such and such sucks by saying "I like such and such," it always seems to me that this person's ethnicity was just insulted, you know?  It's like Kieffer said "black people suck" and you're like "I'm black."

Or a more hilarious thing to say would be "I like black people a bunch."

You should check out dISEMBOWELMENT. Despite the strange name, it's indie pop at it's finest. A bit light and fluffy but still quite excellent.

Another sweet indie band is Demilich, great melodies and vocals. Somewhere between Arcade Fire and Clap your Hands.

You may also like Grand Magus. Catchiest indie pop around.

If I say, "Please don't make me draw a Venn diagram," will you get the point I would normally be making here?

I know! It turns out making a perfectly proportioned Venn diagram in MS pain is really hard!

At least the "Fuck You" part is still the biggest of the three I think?

And therefore the "Fuck Johnny" part is the smallest hawwwww

The Shout Out Louds, I think they could be classified as Swedish indie pop. I liked their first album better than the new one, but the new one is still pretty good.

Pooh Sticks

Small Factory

The Lucksmiths.

The Rain

The Flatmates

The Zebras

Cats  on Fire

That I've never heard of any of these guys is humbling.  The Pooh Sticks were entertaining but flat.  I'm looking forward to listening to the rest.

As for indie pop suggestions:

Bishop Allen
Beirut
Kite Flying Society
Islands
OK GO
The Postal Service
Rogue Wave
Stars
Unicorns
We Are Scientists
Wolf Parade (for perhaps the fifth time in this thread -- that should say something)

I don't claim to be any expert on Indie pop but, of course, if you haven't already heard them (which you should have), you need to listen to The Smiths.  They're just pure pop music dramatics and had unbelievable style and creativity.

But, you should have already listened to them.  They're no underground sensation anymore.

Try Her Space Holiday, particularly the album 'The Young Machines.' Very solid "indie-pop" with a slightly more electronic bent than many.

Off the top of my head, here are some indie pop bands that I've been listening to lately:

Mahagony - Think of an indie pop interpretation of the 1920's ideal of the future, I guess.  Sort of like Architecture in Helsinki, but less spastic and more clockwork dreamscapes.

Jens Lekman - Great Swedish singer songwriter, emphasizing the pop part of indie pop.  He has a new album coming out next month, which I haven't heard yet, but you might as well out what's there, right?  I think his best two are Oh You're So Silent Jens and Rocky Dennis

Actually, why don't I just send you here: http://www.darla.com/littleDarla/
Darla records used to put out Little Darla Has a Treat for You compilations, which were a good way to find new bands, but it's so much easier with internet magic.

Does Kings of Convenience count as indie pop? seriously, if I was to attempt categorizing all the music I hear I would end up getting some kind of seizure.

Kings Of Convenience counts as awesome. I could see "Riot On An Empty Street" being listed as indie-pop.

Other reccomendations:

The Shakes - Gigantes Del Pop!
B.C. Camplight - Blink Of A Nihilist
The Lovetones - Meditations
Aloha - Some Echoes
Tahiti 80 - Wallpaper For The Soul

(Protip: there are videos behind each word!)

(Protip 2: Probably not actually indie pop!)
