This may be my album of the year.
Imagine if Danny Elfman orchestrated an Arcade Fire record. Or if Godspeed You! Black Emperor hired the Polyphonic Spree to do vocals for them. Or if Sufjan Stevens stopped being such a touchy-feely folk nerd and started writing music while high on codeine and whiskey and listening to Phillip Glass in Norway.
The whole record is a master's thesis in tension and release, and the build up to the final track is one of the finest progressions I've ever heard in terms of album cohesion and sequencing. Every song is harmonically complex and melodically engaging, whilst toeing the avant-garde line.
I really, really want to see these guys live now.

its well composed and recorded. its definitely avant-garde. they have mastered the "fast and large while being slow and subdued" concept and then the sound builds and builds.
i seriously doubt it'll be MY album of the year, but i'm still giving blowjobs to anyone that sounds like klaxons.
this album is definitely worth a listen. Make sure you listen all the way through, or you'll miss the whole point of the album.
their older material is much more subdued and hit or miss. don't bother with the back-catalouge. enjoy this album when you buy/download it.

i don't know why but i am yet to be able to really get into an electronic postrock album
-
I don't think this one is really all that "electronic." Far as I can tell 90% of the instruments are the real thing, or such good sequencing that there's no appreciable difference.
-
ok i'm just going by wikipedia definitions at the moment which if you've ever looked at the post-metal article you know are quite hazardous but so far i havn't really liked this thing (not saying that it is actually bad) and i didn't like battles
-
I did like Battles and I'll be listening to this album, this Parades, this afternoon.
It better be as good as you say, SIR
Edit: 200th post. Also, today's my birthday. This album better be as good as you make it out to be. As a birthday present to me, and for all those who died in the World Trade Center

Cheers for the tip, gave this a blast earlier and it sounds really promising. Looking forward to repeat listens.

I'm a fan.

How did you guys hear this? I haven't been able to find it anywhere, and I'm really excited to hear it.
-
Efterklang is criminally under the radar. I loved Springer and Tripper (not so much Under Giant Trees but it was still good) and this new one is better than all of those. I have a link somewhere that I'll post later if I can find it. Search for it one shareminer and it should come up though. It's worth the search.
