Has anyone else seen him? If so, what kinds of wacky on-stage antics can I expect?
Other than that, I guess people can share their favorite experiences at live shows. (Not just Gogol Bordello shows.)
-
Oh wow, you are in for a treat. The show I went to a month ago in NYC was off the hook. It was my shows of the year. For one thing Eugene Hutz is just an incredible performer, and got the crowd jumping up and down and yelling back a few songs in. For another, they had these two asian looking ladies, one playing a giant drum, the other cymbals, and near the end of the first set, one of them starts crowd-surfing on her drum and playing it by hitting it between her legs with her drumstick. Plus they have this old grey haired bad ass looking dude who plays a violin and impressive speeds and contributes to the general ambience of awesome. I advice you to go in somthing that you're planning on sweating in, and jumping around in. My friend went in open toed heeled sandals and I was honestly afraid for her.

I'm so fucking jealous. What I wouldn't give to see the Bordello live.
-
can you say better band
That is physically not possible.
-
can you say better band
since you're not talking about Leningrad, I'm a little confused.
I skipped their show over the summer because it was at a relatively shitty venue, and I'm regretting this decision. Enjoy!
There's also audio of one of their summer shows or something on NPR.com, Here (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=11907007)

I saw The Thermals and Ted Leo live in the same DAY this summer! Huzzah!
Oh and Gogol Bordello are pretty crazy, that'd be an interesting show.
-
The Thermals are a lot of fun live. When I saw them, the intensity and general excitement in the audience grew with each song until, by the end, the whole, admittedly small, venue was a crazy mosh pit. Great stuff.
-
I would love to see Gogol Bordello live, but I'm not going to travel down to the city or out to boston to see them. I want them to come to me.
I'm seeing Billy Bragg on the 18th.
-
I guess this band is getting big now?

Year: Title: Chart: Peak Position:
2007 Super Taranta! The Billboard 200 115
2007 Super Taranta! Top Heatseekers 2
2007 Super Taranta! Top Independent Albums 15
-
#115 on the Billboard chart isn't a lot though. I can't remember what record it was but I saw something debuted at #108 this year and only sold 8000 copies that week.
-
Nevertheless, the fact that Madonna called Eugene on stage with her to save her show from complete suck points to some degree of notoriety.
Interesting, JC. If anyone has a source for average album sales per position on Billboard (obviously it would vary from week to week but I assume there is a range), I'd be interested to hear about it . . . . I poked around on the intarwubs briefly but didn't see anything.
-
Gogol Bordello is one of the few bands remaining who I would be stoked to see live. I pretty much gave up on going to shows about a year ago but I would definitely pay to see Gogol Bordello.
-
I'm seventeen...The guy I'm going with is sixteen...It must be the venue, then.
-
I would've seen these guys play except their Australian tour was canceled. A friend saw them in France, however, and said it was crazy madhouse fun.
Also, Eugene Hutz is in a movie with Elijah Wood. True story.

Is there video of this? What the crap?
And, yea VDove, Everything is Illuminated is a great movie, with some great music (Leningrad!!), though not a great book. I couldn't really get through it.
-
Really? I actually quite liked the book. We can fight about it if you like.
-

There was but it was taken off of Youtube due to some "coppywrought" or "cowriepright" thing, I can't quite remember. There's an article about their collaboration here (http://www.villagevoice.com/blogs/statusainthood/archives/2007/07/madonna_needs_h.php).

Haha, I just had trouble plowing through it, I dunno.
Too bad about that video being down, I would love to see that. Thanks for the article, though.
