Title: So, uh, hey...this is a bit interesting.
Post by: Ozymandias on 02 Nov 2007, 16:55
Joss Whedon has a new TV show coming. (http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Editors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Eliza-Dushku-Lures/800026169)

That actually sounds pretty darn cool.

Yes it does. I hope it's a good one.

Seriously I don't get this obsession with Joss Whedon.

I'd like to go on the record as saying that this is not a good idea for a TV show, in just about every way that "vampire hunter" and "space cowboy" were good ideas.

While I am certainly enthused, for some reason this seems like Dushku wanting to start another Dark Angel (that is, attractive woman kicking ass on a moderately low-budget Fox show which will probably eventually get dropped).

But I'll watch it.

This seems like the kind of thing that will end up being played on a Monday night at about 11:30. I'll probably check it out but I predict that I will miss the first two episodes, become disillusioned with the programme and just get over it, gleaning what I can from the thread that will inevitably crop up here.

I really wish Joss would go with another network.  Fox cancelled Firefly, and when Angel was desperately searching for a new network, Fox said no, even though there were a lot of loyal fans who would have followed it there and watched it.

Fox is like an abusive boyfriend that Joss keeps going back to, claiming that "they've changed."

Fox also cancelled Family Guy and Futurama.  Come on!

I think Fox greenlit it largely because of the impending writer's strike. Which, if that goes through, you can actually expect every episode written to air because they'll have nothing left to play.

I clicked this thread because it said something interesting was in it.  However, it is about people I have never heard of.

Someone want to explain more backstory as to why I should know/care about this whole scenario?

It isn Joss Whedon. He wrote Toy Story and Firefly.

To be honest, this doesn't sound like such a good idea for a show. I mean, we've already had the Pretender and that was pretty lame. Besides, if the main character is a "blank slate", where's the character development going to come from?

yeah... as much as i love joss, i'm not too excited about this concept...

but, if he was able to give the vampire genre a new spin, and make "cowboys in space" something people actually WANT to watch, i think he could do something good with this.

i'll give it a chance.

What? Cowboy Bebop.

So did Trigun.

Also, when looking at his other plots, Vampire Hunter D?

Just saying.

Vampire Hunter D is a pretty big stretch to get to Angel.

Firefly to Cowboy Bebop/Outlaw Star is a lot closer, but...I don't think there's enough there beyond the basic premise to possibly advance the idea that Joss took his inspirations from anime.

I don't know, I wouldn't compare Trigun to Outlaw Star/Cowboy Bebop.  Sure it was a cowboy style, but it mostly involved a single planet where as the other two switched planets between episodes and involved space ship battles.

A quick check with my friend Whedonesque says it's true so lets turn this thread into future plot speculation. I reckon Echo's brain well start or either is retaining the stuff she's being force fed subconsciously and the whole series will be about self-discovery.
Main Theme: true nature of identity.
