(has probably spelt Alanis wrong, but doesn't care)
They suck!
They suck big time, two bunch of whiney irritating whiney-wines... DOWN WITH THEM I SAY!
-
Outside of her cover of "My Humps" Alanis hasn't really done anything relevant in the last few years. For Amos I think it's been even longer.
I guess what I'm saying is, I have no idea where you're coming from on this one.
-
(has probably spelt Alanis wrong, but doesn't care)
Don't worry you've spelt it right.
-
I just suddenly felt the desire to express my sheer distaste for these two people.
-
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . to summer camp!
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . to Rio!
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . back to school!
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . to space!
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . undercover!
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . up the Khyber!
Basically guys I am envisaging a series of Carry On style films here.
-
Alanis Morisette and Tori Amos need to go . . . take over the family business they never wanted to be a part of!
-
The pressure to say something ironic here is almost unbearable.
-
Just because they sing songs about empowering feminine topics doesn't mean you have to inflict your patriarchal fear of strong women on the board, sexist
-

barely any of the things in that song are actually ironic.
I don't know why, but coincidentally today was the first time in a long while that I've talked about Ms. Morrisette. Funny.
-
You got Alanis right but spelled Morissette wrong. Doesn't matter; I don't really care about her, but Tori Amos is awesome.
-
Excuse me?
Wunderkind, Alanis. It's not near whiny. It's beautiful, and I don't just mean as a soundtrack for a movie.
Ribbons Undone, Tori. Not whiny.
Silent All These Years, Tori. Not whiny.
They have bad songs. They have good songs. But they sure as hell don't need to "go" anywhere.
-
Okay, first of all, this thread is complete shit.
Second of all, Tori Amos and Alanus Morrissette (sic) should not me mentioned on the same forum, let alone in the same thread. Alanus Morrissette is some bullshit earth mother who did some good songs in the mid nineties and since then has apparently made so much of an effort to not sell records that...well, she sucks. And I don't think she sells many records these days either.
Tori Amos, however, was never mainstream to that extent, but is a far better musician/songwriter and people still buy her albums to a much lower, but constant, level. A wannabe Kate Bush, maybe, but better than Alanis Morrissette. Nothing Alanis has come up with matches 'Cornflake Girl.'
-
Kate Bush
New, superior thread idea. We all video ourselves doing the Wuthering Heights (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfGc4wcil2g) dance and then post it here. Hilarity will ensue.

I think that is wonderful.
-
Between this thread and the rave one, i fear the 90s are coming back. I've never been so scared.
-

Er... are you confusing her with Ani Difranco a bit? And Ani sells a lot of records.
-
I can't really bring myself to dislike Ani Difranco. I actually really enjoy some of her songs. Don't care much about Tori or Alanis. But they're easy enough to ignore, so why should they bother me?
-
Personally I really like Little Earthquakes and Under the Pink. If the later stuff doesn't quite match it, then that's OK. No one should feel ashamed for making a couple of good records and a bunch of mediocre ones.
And if you think Alanis and Tori are whiny, listen to Joanna Newsom. She will change your outlook on life.
In a good way.
-
I like both Alanis and Tori Amos.
So does this thread have a point or some valid criticism or are you just lashing out?
-
Tori Amos is awesome .... also she has done work lately i mean WTF do you think American Doll Posse is??? She is an amazing artist and thats that
-

Alanis Morrissette has released about four albums since what...1995? And her second one was called 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie,' or some other deliberately incomprehensible bullshit.
Ani DiFranco is that bisexual one who's released about 18 albums in the last week, isn't she?
-
I'm just lashing out.. I guess, I went to school with a guy who never shut up about Tori Amos, which probably sparked my dislike towards her.. but then again, I think it's Alanis Morrisseettt I really can't stand.. that song 'Ironic' ewwww.. and 'you oughta know'' good if it's the Richard Cheese cover but not her....
"It's like trying to find a knife and all you have is spoons" (not quoted lyrics. but it's something like that) ... thats not ironic, that's fucking stupid.
I mean.. what does she want the knife for? To kill the fucker who keeps leaving spoons everywhere?
Really - No thought into that song at all.
-
Of course the argument there is that the real irony in the song is that nothing in the song is ironic. But I honestly don't think she's smart enough to write that kind of shit. Even so, I can get through life without lashing out at her.
-
I could potentially like Ani Defranco, but god do I hate her fans.
-
Really - No thought into that post at all.
That's for damn fucking sure.
-
But I honestly don't think she's smart enough to write that kind of shit.
So you must know her pretty well to make this statement.
Even so, I can get through life without lashing out at her.
Even though the comment you made one sentence earlier was lashing out at her.
Bravo, sir. Bra-fucking-vo.
-
Inspired by this thread, I downloaded a bunch of Tori Amos last night. I already had Little Earthquakes and the Crucify EP (had to get it because of her cover of "Smells Like Teen Spirit") but for some reason had never gotten anything else. Four albums altogether, including her latest, American Doll Posse. With any luck, I'll get a chance to listen to some of it tonight.
Um... I guess I just thought I'd share.

Just because one can, doesn't mean one does, dear sir.

Fun fact: Dreadlock length correlates to number of Ani DiFranco albums owned.
-
I lost my copy of Boys for Pele, I really should replace it.
-

Well looks like you and Mr Neil Gaiman have similar view on that.
I could potentially like Ani Defranco, but god do I hate her fans.
Fun fact: Dreadlock length correlates to number of Ani DiFranco albums owned.
NB: Subtract 5cm of dreadlock length from female fans before postulating number owned.
-
So, it's uncool to like Ani Difranco? Even a little bit?
(My thoughts: Not a Pretty Girl was awesome, but I haven't really heard anything else that was as good. I don't actively hate her or anything, I don't see why one should. She may not create good songs anymore, but there are a lot of artists that don't make good songs, and I could care less about them)
-
i dont really mind either of them (or ani for that matter).
but i do think that the Goo Goo Dolls should have never ever ever ever existed.
-
Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos need to go . . . to White Castle!
-
Apparently Dave "Uncle Joey" Coulier broke Alanis Morrisette's heart, and she dedicated a bunch of songs on one of her albums to the ordeal. Not to be insensitive or anything, but I can't stop focusing on the visual of Mr. Coulier saying, "Alanis... I'm cutting you out," with accompanying hand motions.
-
Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos need to go . . . back to the future!
-
I think I'm developing a deep and abiding hatred for Tori Amos, or at least her bass player, through being woken up by my housemate playing American Doll Posse really loud through his subwoofered stereo every fucking morning.
That said, I'm sure she's great. I'm just really sick of that album, not least because I've never listened to it when I want to.
And Ani DiFranco deserves as much respect as Ian Mackaye for her similar contributions to DIY ethics, i reckon.
-
I'm just sick of cute girls with dreds turning out to be lesbians/Ani Defranco fans.
I am just lashing out, I guess.
-

Dangerous thinking.

Is he using one of his hilarious voices?

In a good way.
I fail to see how listening to Newsom can ever be a good thing. Granted, I'd totally hit it, but there's no way I'd listen to her music.
Can this thread now be about who much Joanna Newsom sucks?

Somebody find me freeware to record video with the iSight camera, I'll have one up on youtube by Monday.
Between this thread and the rave one, i fear the 90s are coming back. I've never been so scared.
I'll sell a kidney to live through the nineties and be able to appreciate some of the best albums ever when they were still new.
-

You don't have iMovie?
-
You can do it in Photobooth in Leopard too
-
iMovie can use the iSight?! well let me find a green screen and a tidy room, let's do this thing!
I still don't have leopard, I can't get a discount either...
-
Can this thread now be about who much Joanna Newsom sucks?
No. This thread is now about how much you suck.
-
Jagged Little Pill is a good album. And Hands Clean is a good...single. So, deduct me however many indie cool points you want.
And Joanna Newsom rocks, if you aren't too bothered by vocal inflections that differ from the mean.
