So I'm throwing a little shin dig for friends next week and I'm trying to build a good playlist of music to keep everyone happy and dancing the night away. I'd think some electronic is fine, but I'm also looking for some rap hip hop type stuff and some rock that you can go ahead and get funky to. I'm coming here because while I know that this might not be the mainstay of your music library you all do tend towards good tastes. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Some things that are fun to dance to: CSS, The Knife, !!!, Justice, MIA, Bonde do Role. Chuck on some classics, especially from the 80s. Shake and serve.
-
When I want dance music. I generally go to Daft Punk, Soulwax, Junior Senior, Avenue D, or Girl Talk. I recommend Avenue D because I uploaded one of their albums to the sendspace thread, but the others are necessities as well.
-
I second junior senior, soulwax, !!! and ans Cansei de Ser Sexy, yay I spelt it right.
-
Thanks so far, some of this is going in for sure. I still need some more rap stuff, with less emphasis on the electronic. you know something with a little more  something that has a bit more... krunk?

Tupac - California Love (either one)

try some hadouken, such as "the bounce" and "that boy that girl"
its listed as grindie but its fun to jump about to.
summer of 69 is an obvious one i guess for the rockers, sweet child o' mine,
ska could be good to, for later on when everyones drunk and dance happy, even better if people know how to skank!

I thought this thread was about The Mountain Goats.
But uh since I'm here...I'd say The Pipettes and M.I.A. . There are some really good dancey Black Eyed Peas songs, and although were all supposed to hate it, SexyBack is a really fun dancey song. Don't pretend you never wanted to dance around to it when it's come on.

I'm not sure I even know how you'd dance to Sexyback.
-
You have never truly listened to SexyBack until you've danced to it

You have never truly heard Sexyback until you live in a building where the cafeteria blares it at you daily when you're going to 8:30 class.
Anyhow, all my dance parties lately feature Chromeo, the first Go! Team album and most of what's already been mentioned (Justice, Girl Talk, etc.) Sorry I can't help with crunk.
-
Talking Heads?

I don't listen to a lot of crunk, but for good underground hip hop, check out Neighborhood Watch by Dilated Peoples, as well as the rest of their stuff. Who's Who is a great dance track.
Also I've always wanted to play Kavinsky's Testarossa Autodrive at a party in hopes that it would turn into a 10-minute long epic, animalistic ritual dance complete with strobe lights. Something like the Gathering scene in The Matrix: Reloaded. Something about that scene always gave me goosebumps.

I bring back this

Whenever me and my friends throw a dance party we always start off with a Le Tigre remix of Missy Elliott's Get Ur Freak On.
