Title: Star One - Space Metal
Post by: kivenkantaja on 20 Nov 2007, 01:07
This is a derivative of a different post.

Sorry if I sound like a post-whore right now.. I just discovered this forum after finished QC and decided it was time to make myself a nuisance as quick as possible.

Anyways, for those who have heard this album, and actually listened to the lyrics, you may have come up with a conclusion, a conclusion which I asked Arjen Anthony Lucassen about personally.

That is, the whole album is about various sci-fi movies Arjen likes.

The ones I've figured out are

1) The Eye of Ra - about Stargate (the movie)
2) Master of Darkness - about Star Wars, particularly Luke learning the force.
3) Perfect Survivor - about Alien.

I can provide specific reasons for my conclusions if you feel like it.

and please help me with the rest of the songs.  I'm totally not sci-fi movie-savvy to figure it out.

If you havn't heard the album, it's definitely worth checking out.

Damnit.  I never thought of using Wiki.  Curses!

Can I derail THIS thread into talking about how totally stoked I am for the new Ayreon album?

Seriously, it's not only the tongue-in-cheek cheesy sci-fi stuff, but now he's breaking the fourth wall with it. It's awesome in a kind of trippy way.

Whoohoo!  I didn't know a new Ayreon album was coming out!

You've made me positively excited and totally ok that this thread deviated.  'specially since KharBevNor totally derailed it right away.

BAM! (http://www.ayreon.com/ayreon/ay_01011001.html)

Listen to Arjen's clip if you want to know what I mean about the breaking the fourth wall thing.

Anyway, January 29th holy crap I am far more excited about this than I probably should be.

friggen cool.

I'm excited now!  though I'll be a very poor student by then.. but I think a new Aryeon album is definitely worth starving for a couple days.

"Space Metal" was a fantastic album.

I think I prefer it to anything he's ever done under the Ayreon moniker.

The second CD opens with a nine minute plus Hawkwind medley (Master of the Universe/Silver Machine/Psychedelic Warlords/Brainstorm/Assault and Battery/The War I Survived/Spirit of the Age/Lost Chronicles) with Dave Brock on vocals.

You really have no idea what you're missing.
