Those are some of the worst graphics imaginable, coupled with an even more laughable tag-line
"he's a mass murdering clooowwwwnnn!!!!!  Spray paint!"

Not a bad picture, though.

Yeah, that cover sucks arse. The Joker looks pretty damn good, though.

Better picture without all the stupid text (http://www.empireonline.com/heiscoming/)

Also, the ARG has been one of the best ARGs I've ever seen. No bullshit technical puzzles that require ten layers of cryptography and then a math degree, just some genuinely clever puzzles and hardcore audience interaction.

Tonight you're gonna break your one rule...

! I like it. My faith has really been restored since the initially bewildering revelation of Heath Ledger as the Joker. I'm going to go crazy before July of next year.

Is Heath Ledger even wearing a costume there?
I'm like 94% sure I've seen a photo of him wearing that same outfit at a Starbucks in LA.

I have a shameless, monster crush on Heath Ledger.

I am SO excited. I really liked Batman Begins. And Maggie Gyllenhaal is going to be in this one! Woot.

I hope this makes my dream of a Heath Ledger/Peter Sarsgaard collaboration one step closer to coming true.

Good to see they're working with Heath's receding hairline instead of slapping him in a Tom Cruise wig.

He looks so jolly and endearing, like a bear cub. It probably wouldn't hurt to just pet him OH GOD MY HAND.
Also, his pose in the last picture really reminds me of that "Vote Zaphod Beeblebrox" video they made to advertise the H2G2 movie. Anybody else get that?
Title: Re: New look at the Joker

Batman looks rather bored.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Renfamous on 03 Dec 2007, 17:36
I hate to say it, but at this point Batman probably is rather bored.
Needs moar Jack Nicholson.

(Coming in 2010..'Batman Broods' starring the fat kid from 'Superbad' as Oswald Cobblepot.)
Title: Re: New look at the Joker

In a list of all possible candidates, well, I guess he'd be on it.  The only actors I can think of to play Cobblepot are all comedians...maybe if Phillip Seymour Hoffman were shorter?

Would Philip Seymor Hoffman make a good Penguin?
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Dimmukane on 04 Dec 2007, 06:46
If he were a bit shorter, I think it could work.  Same goes for Crispin Glover, if heh gained about 80 pounds and dropped a foot in stature.  Bill Hoskins, perhaps?
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Renfamous on 04 Dec 2007, 08:32
Bob Hoskins has to be the same age as Danny DeVito if not older..if they aren't going to continue with the whole youthful revival of the characters thing I vote they use Danny DeVito again.  Don't fix what ain't broken, I say.

I'm sold.

Terrible quality, though.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: KvP on 14 Dec 2007, 12:59
I usually find the Joker to be a boring villain (Clayface from the animated series was always my favorite as a kid) but I think I like the way Ledger's going with this one. Probably because it seems to be devoid of all camp. Nicholson turned it up to 11.

Post by: Scandanavian War Machine on 14 Dec 2007, 13:26
...is that a bad thing? that's what i always liked about the Joker; he IS corny and over the top. c'mon remember Nicholson's laugh? and that really long pistol? i loved it.

although, i am really looking forward to this new Joker. a change will be nice.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: KvP on 14 Dec 2007, 13:50
It worked fine for Burton's version, but I don't think it would have worked for Nolan's. I'm hearing some grumbling about the character's origins in this one, actually. I don't think there's a chemical bath or anything, just a scarred (not "scared", bah) psycho who wears makeup and dyes his hair.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Ozymandias on 14 Dec 2007, 16:09
I'm not sure we will even get an origin for this one, and I'm kind of hoping it stays that way. There's a part in that trailer where Gordon says "No name, no other alias. Nothing in his pockets but knives and lint."

And he is disfigured, and in a more terrifying way that the silly comic book chemical bath that magically turns him clown colored. That Chelsea grin is horrifying and it kind of looks like it gets worse over the course of the movie, like he does it to himself. Over and over.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Tom on 14 Dec 2007, 18:37
Since he is supposed to be a very scarred psycho, I wouldn't be supprised if he has negative body image issues and actually did to it to himself over and over agian.

I'm really excited for this. Aside from the romance angle (Batman's a conflicted vigilante, not a conflicted vigilante that dates Katie Holmes), I liked Batman Begins a lot better than the Spiderman movies.

As someone who was completely and entirely against the casting of Heath Ledger, I will admit that I am officially sold after seeing the HD trailer.

Also of note, there's a piss poor quality posting of the first six minutes that were shown in IMAX on youtube. The quality may be lacking, but it gives a good idea of the tone.

Edit for Link: Brokeback Joker's Bank Robbery (http://youtube.com/watch?v=IB8_Jd9jMf0)
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Alex C on 17 Dec 2007, 11:36
The only thing I ever worried about with the Ledger casting was what he'd sound like (looks are pretty much a non-issue with the Joker) and how many Brokeback Mountain jokes I'd have to put up with. Which, was never really that big of a deal anyway, either; I just avoided the "Omg, teh gay, LOL!" threads back when that movie came out and I can avoid them when this one comes out as well.

Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: De_El on 17 Dec 2007, 16:11
I'm still hesitant. After watching the trailer the first time, I thought the Joker got angry too easily.  On the one hand, he's supposed to have this unflappable quality to him and kill with a smile, but on the other hand he's totally unpredictable so it's kind of hard to balance.  I'll have to watch it a couple dozen more times.

Btw, I'm still wondering, wtf does Anthony Michael Hall do in the movie?
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: KvP on 17 Dec 2007, 18:54
From what I heard ages ago, he plays a wannabe masked vigilante who stumbles upon Batman's secret identity and sort of blackmails Batman into letting him "help" and ends up getting eliminated by the Joker somehow. But like I said, that was ages ago and I'd be surprised if it's true. I also heard talk of him playing an investigative reporter / photographer who hates Batman for some reason.

I am sold, though I still would have liked to see Mark Hamil
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: De_El on 17 Dec 2007, 20:03
Hahah! Although his voice work as the Joker for the animated series is probably a) the best thing Mark Hamill ever did and b) among the best Joker performances ever, it's...Actually, having considered the excuses of him being old/aged badly/disfigured none of them are really that good. Maybe he just didn't fit the new atmosphere they were creating. Hell, maybe he didn't want to do it.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: KvP on 17 Dec 2007, 20:06
Mark Hamill's probably one of if not the most prominent voice actors working today, a real hot commodity. If I were to guess I'd say he's left live-action stardom behind.
Title: Re: New look at the Joker
Post by: Ozymandias on 17 Dec 2007, 20:28
I love Mark Hamill's performance on TAS as much as the next nerd, but I'm not sure how well he could actually ACT the part live. He's an amazing VA, but that doesn't mean he'd be great for real.

Besides, there's not point in discussing it when Ledger fucking nailed it harder than anyone on Earth could have ever predicted anyone could do let alone Heath Fucking Ledger.

Also, I love that the Joker can be a nutcase and still have enough class to use a Tommy gun.

Jesus I just watched the trailer. Ledger is fucking terrifying which is shocking since he was, like, in A Knight's Tale. I'm really excited for this. It's great to see they're treating batman as it should be treated i.e. exceptionally dark. I'm pretty excited to see this.
