Post by: camelpimp on 03 Dec 2007, 14:17
Has anyone actually watched this? Is it really as bad as I think it would be?

Its scheduled to re-air tonight and tommorrow night along with parts 2 and three.  On Sunday, Sci-Fi is supposed to air all three of them.

I'll watch it Sunday, the idea of an eve more twisted version of the Wizard of Oz appeals to me.

I dunno. Somehow a more jaded, stronger willed, Dorothy just doesn't appeal to my "Oh-my-god-she's-hot!" gland

I managed to sit through it, but the girl who plays DG really got on my nerves.  Her character seem so... flat.  I'll be missing part 2 tonight, as I have more important things going on (Heroes).

Scifi.com has the whole first part on the website.
I'm watching it right now.

its kinda cool, a new take on a old tale plus how can you beat a noirish-cop tin man and a old drugged-up Wizard.

So far, I really like it!!

It is a far-fetched from Frank L. Baum's world of course, but it is interesting to watch regardless.

The promise of noir makes me interested.

i just watched the first part on scifi.com.  i like it. a tad predictable, but they took the original concept and ran with it.  and, at least at this point, i don't feel like they went too far.  plus, alan cummings is great.

I dunno. Somehow a more jaded, stronger willed, Dorothy just doesn't appeal to my "Oh-my-god-she's-hot!" gland

zooey deschanel isn't hot, persay, but definitely cute.  i wouldn't turn her down. :-P

Edit:  It's kind of like a steam-punk version of OZ...

**so, i've watched what they have on sci-fi.com but the last part of part 2 isn't working!  does anyone know where i can watch it before the finale at 9pm?  i'll watch the finale regardless, but it'd be nice to actually see the whole of part 2...

The promise of noir won't be followed up on. There don't really seem like there are any noir elements to me, anyway. It's pretty enjoyable though. I've watched both parts 1 & 2, and it seems like standard SciFi channel fare. Fewer cringe-worthy lines than usual, slightly more well known actors (yes definitely Alan Cumming is great). I'm not sure; I do enjoy it, that I'm sure of, but I'm not sure how good it actually is.

I thought the Tin Man was a little noir-ish, but the most point its Stream Punk OZ.

The commercial made this look like a sub-par miniseries.
Also, I don't like the actress.

Watched the last episode last night. I enjoyed it a lot! It definitely could have been better, however. The ending could have used an epilogue, and I believe that most of the actors could have done a better job. Much of the acting is lackluster.

agreed, especially about the epilogue part.  the ending seemed very abrupt.  but, i still liked it and will most likely buy it on DVD.

I agree completely with the poor quality of acting, especially on the part of the two sisters.  This miniseries could have been much better.

I still can't get over the fact that they call it, "The O.Z." What the fuck? That's only one letter from being the O.C. and DAMN we don't need that.

yeah I thought they said "O.C" a few times too, "O.Z" Outer Zone a little lame.

Not at all, it sounds edgy and will attract a large adult/teen audience. :-D

I watched it because I used to be obsessed with "The Wizard of Oz," and I wanted to see how many cheesy and/or clever references they made to the original movie/books.

In this I was not disappointed; there were many.

WAAAAAY too predictable though. And I agree that the acting was sub-par for the most part.

Guys.

Guys.

This was shit and shouldn't have been made. Or if they had to make it, the shouldn't have bothered making it event as tangentially related to Oz as they did.

I haven't been watching it, but my dad likes it.  I had to set the DVR for him because he still can't figure it out.  Sooner or later I'll watch them.

I wish American McGee's Oz hadn't been scrapped.  I loved Alice.

I kinda enjoyed it.  The ending sucked but otherwise, it was a good way to kill 6 hours on a Sunday.  Quit yer bellyachin'.

I used my day off from work to watch all three parts on Hulu. I really enjoyed it, actually! So the acting could have been better at points, but I really like what they did with the characters and how they switched up the story. Very entertaining. Also the guy that played Jed is very good looking, they could have used more of him.

it was a good way to kill 6 hours on a Sunday.

Better ways to kill 6 hours on a Sunday:

Watch three Christian Bale movies at random.
Practice a musical instrument.
Learn the rules of cricket.
Count to 10,000.
Call your mother.
Read all of Achewood.
Read all of Achewood with your mother.
Sleep.
Sleep with your mother.
Go outside and climb trees.
Get a job.
Stick a needle through your genitals every ten minutes.
Bake a cake or two.
Find a really good joke to tell your mother.
Go to a coffee shop and make a friend.
Read a book.
Play through Super Mario Bros. 3.
Attempt to prove that P = NP.
Volunteer to help the elderly.
Go to church with your mother.
Experiment with different combinations of drugs.
Get drunk off your ass with your mother.
Any combination of the above.

Didn't anyone else notice that the Rebels in part 4 were mostly wearing Utilikilts Brand Utility-Kilts (http://www.utilikilts.com)?  No?  Only me?  ok...

But seriously, I've enjoyed what I've seen so far, I'll need to watch the rest of it though.  At least it's better than S.S. Doomtrooper (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0795457/)  :-P

Complaining about acting on Sci-Fi originals is kind of redundant at this point.

I haven't seen Tin Man yet but it's on my DVR and both my parents really enjoyed it.  Of course, a TV version of American History X is also on my DVR so that's likely the next thing I will watch on my TV.

Why would you watch the TV-edited version of American History X? That kind of destroys the point...

yeah, i am aware.  I'm too cheap to rent it, though, and I'm not a big fan of torrents in general.
