I've always loved Scrubs, but the final season is pure crap. It's barely even funny anymore, like when Alan Alda took over the reigns on M*A*S*H. Really preachy. Every episode's turned into "Oh nooooooes, JD has a kid now and needs to grow up".
Were the writers phoning it in? The only decent joke of the entire season so far is a drawn out Beardface joke.
Turk: What it do, Beardface?
Beardface: It's Beardfacè, dammit!
Kelso: Pipe down, Seymour.
Cox: You know, if you want to lose the nickname, you're gonna have to shave the beard. Of course, then you'll just be Dr. Face.
Kelso: Dr. Face! (laughs)
Ughhhhh. Just end it already. JD's single, Elliott's single, we all know they'll hook up again before everything's finished.
-
i haven't seen any of the new ones. i just watch the re-runs whenever they happen to be on at the same time i'm watching tv. it's pretty sweet cause it's always funny.
-
They're really disappointing, but it's only been, what, four episodes (I'm not good at a maths and memory). Give it maybe a few more episodes before I give the thumbs down.
But season six wasn't any good either.
Scrubs was basically fun when it started and they had all these cool little scenes being played out in JD's imagination, but then they ran out. And now this is where we're at.
Is it really the final season?
-
It really is the final season.
Here is the plot for it.
Kelso is gonna be replaced as Chief of Medicine cause he's 65. Cox will be selected as the new CoM. JD will take over Cox's position. We also discover that Janitor's name is (This information has been removed by NBC).
The Elliot-JD thing is still up in the air. The writers have tossed the idea around of them tying the knot, or...
-
Six was supposed to be the last, which is why they killed off Laverne.
-
Six was supposed to be the last, which is why they killed off Laverne.
This was one of the saddest moments in TV history. Seriously. I loved Laverne.
I've watched them on DVD, not live, cause I want to catch up before I watch any new ones. I don't have anything to say about Season 7. Sorry.
-
yeah, what a fuckin' bummer. man, that sucked.
-
This show used to be a staple at my house, because both of my parents are/were doctors and apparently the early seasons were actually pretty accurate so far as residency was concerned. Then we stopped watching, I guess because it started getting more random. But I remember it being funny. Dropped in on a newer episode and wasn't impressed. I still think Cox is a great character.
-
all of the episodes are forgettable
-
all of the episodes are forgettable
I'd say that goes for all of them except for the one where Cox's brother dies. They're all funny and have their own great jokes and all, but most of them don't stick with you.
-
for me most of them do stick with me. my friend can say one part and I will remember the whole episode, but not so with these ones
and you mean Jordan's brother right?
-
Yeah, the one who's basically Cox's brother.
I know this show a bit to well.
And this last season makes me sad.
-
The only reason I'm still watching Scrubs is because it feels dumb to watch the show for 6 seasons and then just not watch the last season and see how it ends. Season 6 wasn't all that great either, but I guess it had its moments..
-
Thank goodness this imbecilic program is coming to an overdue end.
-
The end of season 6 got my hopes up again... but I've been really disappointed with most of season 7 so far. Who's been writing these episodes?!?!?! Something seems to have changed in the creative process that generated great episodes in seasons past :| it's like no-one can be bothered to put in any effort anymore, they just recycle old "gags" like Ted and his mum or Carla being a busy-body. Or the crazy delivery-guy (the show's creator, right? I wonder how he feels about the latest season). How can the actress playing Jordan not be embarrassed by her character??
I admit I've enjoyed the development of some characters in the last two seasons, most notably Kelso, and I've enjoyed some of the plot eg. the arc with Kim. And Laverne's death was almost a return to form, I felt. I even enjoyed the last ep feat. JD's bro. But now, all I want is for the show to end. It's no longer the ultimate med-student show, it's just a bad half-assed dramedy.
I'd really like for it to end with a great episode, though :|
-
It's a shame to hear that it's become shit, I loved the earlier seasons.
-
Aren't the writers still on strike or something?
I don't think the new episodes are that bad. They're amusing enough, but they've certainly lost something over the years, and this season especially doesn't seem to have the charm that made the first few really great. Also, they're still going for that "off the wall silly with moments of drama" thing but they aren't pulling it off very tactfully this time around; it seems a bit forced.
Regardless I'm going to stick around and watch to the end for the same reason as LadyBug and hope that they can pull it all together.
-
They've really tried as hard as they could to fuck up the show in the last couple seasons. With the last few episodes of last season reintroducing the Elliot+ J.D. thing I pretty much stopped watching it. It seems like such a fucking copout to me; it's like, "hey, we can't think of anything better to write, so let's just have them hook up again." This isn't Friends, they're not ross and rachel, so give it a rest and figure out some better shit to write.
it's a shame though, seasons 1-4ish were gold.
-
I love Scrubs. Mostly for it's ability to switch from being downright silly to serious, touching, and meaningful. And it's freaking Hilarious. The final season has been a disappointment in all those departments. It's still okay, but not what it used to be.
Also, I'm against JD/Elliot. They're not right for each other AT ALL.
-
i used to like this show but, but then it got too cute so i stopped watching. Now i think its the cause of the pussification of all of my male friends.
-
You see, the first four seasons were brilliant, season five was good, now it's pretty much shit.
This is why I am almost alright with Arrested Development ending when it did.
-
Are you KIDDING?! I want to know whether or not Buster got eaten by the loose seal! I couldn't care about any of the other hanging plots, but you can't end Buster's story with him floating in the sea with the amputee rabid seal that ate his hand! That just ain't considerate!
-
This last season has been a let down. I have heard rumors that due to the writer's strike that the final four planned episodes may never be made. Not sure if this is reliable or old news, but it would be disappointing not to see the end.
-
Hey, come on guys, I like Scrubs, even the recent seasons. The new episodes arent bad at all, some of them are definately awesome. Scrubs is different but its not crap.
I do definitely think that they need to end the show soon. They are running out of material. Plus we just need some JD Elliot closure.
-
Watching Scrubs after the fourth season is like listening to the filler songs on Gin Blossoms' albums.
Who wants to take bets on how quickly we'll find out if Zach Braff can actually have a career without a Scrubs-based audience built in for him?
-
did anyone see the "final" episode last week? I got an email about it, then it wasn't on
-
I hear Zach Braff is working on a pilot for his own show (totally non-scrubs-related). A friend of mine interned on scrubs and is hoping to get on board the new one.
-
It's sad really. The series started off so good, but after JD and Kim it starts going down hill. I haven't seen the last two seasons, I dont think, but I honestly don't want to.
-
I watch Scrubs for the same reason I watched Star Wars: Episode III: Because I had seen the other ones. It definatley got to the point where they're just phoning in the shows, and really, I liked Elliot's boyfriend, they fitted each other. I haven't seen any of season 7, but I can probably piece it together through random speculation: JD has a kid and needs to learn how to deal with it, Elliot left Keith for JD (and, if they have time, will have to learn how to help with the little JD-ster), and at the end, someone (probably JD or the Janitor, whose name will finally be revealed) will sadly turn off a light in a room, then walk out.
Or they'll go all "Twin Peaks" on us, and JD will wake up having to go to his first day at the hospital.
-
Obviously the end of the series will be the whole cast driving off the roof of sacred heart in dr kelsoes tourbus, after learning they all have caught a slow burn STD off the janitor.
-
Hopefully the second to last episode isn't a reenactment of how they caught the STD...
-
They'll Rosanne the shit and JD will have written the whole last season to avoid the awful truth.
-
That's another thing that bothered me about this season: TOO MANY BEARDFACE JOKES.
Hell, too many Snoop Dogg Attending jokes, too.
-
They were funny like a season or two ago. :|
-
I'm going to start this conspiracy up.
JD dies in the end, at his own wedding with Elliot.
-
I agree on the too much beardface and snoop dogg attending jokes. I mean the biggest draw of scrubs has always been the amazing amount of detail all the characters have been given... beardface and colonel doctor and snoop dogg attending are just pointless one joke wonders that shouldn't be brought up every 5 minutes. The only times they were funny were the first time... when "snoop dogg said where my hoes at" and when we found out colonel doctor's name was really coleman slawsky... coleslaw lawl. But really... season 3 was the peak of scrubs in my opinion. One was a great start.... 2 was building up to the fantastic third season and 4 was on pace with two but on the way down... season 5 and on just haven't been the same... it lots some of the magic for me. It just kinda lost it's path and never held to the characters and situations that really made you think which is what made the first few seasons so special. That and JD's fantasies were quirky and fun and not feeling forced or mundane like the now.
Hopefully now that the writer's strike is over the whole thing can get wrapped. I've invested too much time... about 2 hours a day plus having marathoned my way through ALL the episodes at least twice to not find out the janitor's name... Stupid writer's jeopardizing it. I've heard too much speculation on the creator's blog and zach braff's myspace about how if it doesn't end soon they might just not finish... I will be sad if now that it's over the final episodes don't get written and filmed.
Season 7 in my opinion has actually been better than season 6 in my opinion. I really really have never liked the kim character though... I would have rather had someone less annoyingly selfish have JD's baby.
-
where my hoes at
I haven't seen them.
-
You know, I actually have enough faith in the writers to be convinced that JD and Elliot won't get back together. I might be the only one.
Well...there's the guy who wrote the TVTropes WMG (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/WMG/Scrubs), but I'm not sure I want to take it that far...
-
Watching Scrubs after the fourth season is like listening to the filler songs on Gin Blossoms' albums.
There was no filler on New Miserable Experience. Every single song was amazing. Seriously, I am in love with that album, even though the music completely belies the fact that (when you listen to the lyrics) it is one of the most depressing albums you will ever hear.
Congratulations, I'm Sorry, on the other hand - well, that was all filler. Even the song that was on the Empire Records soundtrack was trite.
So since, to me, the two albums are on the extreme ends of the spectrum, I both wildly disagree and strongly agree (depending on the album) with your disparaging words for the Gin Blossoms. :-)
-
Go into the music forum and you and I can talk about how every Gin Blossoms album was nothing but filler.
Scrubs is just another comedy-turned-soap. It's the new Gilmore Girls, but with fewer references to ridiculously obscure shit that nobody but the writers know about.

Wait, how are JD and Elliot going to get married? Same-sex marriage is banned outside of Massachusetts!
-
The killed off Laverne??? :-o
-
Season six was SUPPOSED to have been the final season, which was why they killed her off.
-
Wait, how are JD and Elliot going to get married? Same-sex marriage is banned outside of Massachusetts!
where does scrubs take place anyways?
-
Wait, how are JD and Elliot going to get married? Same-sex marriage is banned outside of Massachusetts!
That's classic.
Best quote in this thread bar-none.
-
where does scrubs take place anyways?
IN A HOSPITAL
DUH
-
I don't think they ever specifically said it, but it's generally accepted that Scrubs takes place somewhere in California.
-
If you read the Wikipedia article, it's filmed on-location at a decomissioned hospital in northern California, but as far as the show is concerned, it's intentionally left ambiguous, although it's still commonly accepted to take place "somewhere" in California.
-
Actually, it's just in northern Hollywood.
-
Might be another season on ABC. lol
-
Sacramento. Turk's area code is 916, and that area code is totally within the City of Sacramento.
So JD drove that bus 11 hours each way.
-
Hahaha. They used to have that number (916-CAL-LTUR) registered, and leave the cell phone around set. Apparently if you called it, one of the cast members would usually answer.
-
I wonder how annoyed the guy or girl who now has that number is by random phone calls?
-
It won't end with them hooking up, that will be the second last thing that happens, the last thing will be the janitor chloroforming JD as he walks to his car at night and JD waking up hog tied in a celler while janitor looks over him with a really creepy grin and a carton of milk.
roll credits.
-
The janitor lowering a basket of lotion to JD in a ditch, perhaps?
-
It will turn out that JD's been dead from the beginning, and the entire series was just the janitor wandering around his filthy basement, wearing JD's face as a mask.
Too dark?
-
JD's real name is DJ and he was a transsexual stripper at a nightclub in Modesto. He snapped a man's neck during some after-hours "employment" and now works at a hospital somewhere in California under his not-so-creative assumed name. When he was still a woman, he had three children: Eduardo Robert, Yankee Telephone, and Ramazan Fatmir. He was originally born in vegas with the name Julia Dahle (hence, JD > DJ) but after his sex change, he altered it to become Joachim Dortmund.
-
Yankee Telephone
0_o awesome.
-
Kelso is Elvis.
He faked his death in '77 and set up an identity as fresh out of med school, which would make his fake age about 65 now. He bullshitted his way through internship and residency, soon becoming an attending, and eventually...
Hell, he says so in one episode.
Shamelessly stolen from TVTropes.
-
It will turn out that JD's been dead from the beginning, and the entire series was just the janitor wandering around his filthy basement, wearing JD's face as a mask.
Too dark?
Perfect.
-
Scrubs used to be totally epic. Made me laugh and cry.
Now the funniest part is the sheer awfulness of Dr Cox's hair. Why? Just why?
-
To be fair, Cox's hair has ALWAYS been a joke.
-
This thread used to be totally epic. Made me laugh and cry.
Now the funniest part is the made up stories of people's true backgrounds, and those stopped being funny when Patrick botched his

There's going to be a season 8 of scrubs.
Broadcast on ABC instead of NBC
-
I've tried following scrubs but the only stuff I can stand to watch anymore are the first couple of seasons. The show just feels REALLY tired now, it's like...they're the exact same characters making the exact same mistakes ALL the time....how is that interesting? It's still going but it's run out of steam.
-
Awww come on. The first episode after the Writer's Strike was pricelesss. Hitting their interns with water balloons from the roof. The girl with the really annoying voice making the mother ship sound? They find new ways to be random =D
-
Somebody alert Christopher fucking Columbus, we've got some new uncharted territory here. Water balloons! Who'd have thought to try that?
-
=.= It's funny. Watch this, it's a ten minute clip. Start watching at forty-five seconds and stop after two minutes.

holy shit, the season finale sucked. worst episode of the entire show I imagine, and definitely a really shitty choice for the finale. Hopefully the next season'll be better than this one was, I guess they're doing 18 eps for ABC instead of the 12 they did with NBC.
Also, was this episode supposed to air at a different time? Didn't Kelso quit last week? I feel like his departure woulda made for a much better finale.
-
I agree, the "finale" was out of place and terrible, but what really makes me mad is that there's no way Kelso's leaving could've been the end and someone just mixed up some tapes somewhere, since last week's episode has Cox filling in for Kelso while they look for a replacement.
Having said that, I did kinda like that this season didn't end with a wrap-up, everyone's happy sort of ending, and instead just on a melancholy note (literally).
-
I've tried following scrubs but the only stuff I can stand to watch anymore are the first couple of seasons.
Eh, the first couple of seasons were a bit under-developed. The writers were still getting used to their own template. They are much better than these past few seasons, but I think the true gems lay in the mid ground. Seasons 3 to 5 are the real goodies. 6 was just a peek into what 7 would become. I mean, they killed off Laverne. When you have to use poor plot devices like that, you should know that your show is dead.
All in all, I don't really like the idea of an eighth seasons, but I'm going to hold out hope that the writers are either replaced or suddenly find some comedic inspiration so I can continue to enjoy my Scrubs.
-
The finale was shit right until the last line, where it pulled some "My Screwup" style screw-ery and nearly redeemed itself for not making me laugh at all. Shame it was so out of order though, it made very little sense.
-
Yeah um... I just watched the last episode online and spent the whole time saying "...but I thought Kelso retired? WHAT'S GOING ON!"
-
Because of some european (either danish of irish) tv station broadcasting the episodes in the right order that they were initially meant to be broadcast they had to play the 'my princess' episode, eventhough it was set before Kelso leaving. They had probably cut it out because it was so bad or something of the like.
That episode was so bad.
-
I actually liked everyone's costumes, especially Janitors.
-
So...wait. The writers wanted to end it at 6, NBC made them do season 7, and now there's going to be an eighth season?
*facedesk* WHY WON'T YOU DIE?!
-
Bill Lawrence is on record saying there was always plans for seven seasons. This is where is gets to be a pain in the butt:
The writer's strike fucked with how it was going to end.
And NBC wouldn't front them the extra four or five episodes they needed to actualy end it.
So, ABC picks it up for 18 episodes, aka Season 8.
-
Because there is no way in hell a TV network would pick up four or five half-hour episodes so they've decided to fuck it all up. Bastards.
