Thinking of going because JAMC are going, but hate hte idea of watching Duran Duran and the presets. I also enjoy QOTSA a bit, not sure if it's worth i though.

duran duran

I'm sorry. I'm sorry, what?

So last year, the first time they had the festival here, they got out the Pixies, Jarvis Cocker, the New York Dolls, Beck, the Pet Shop Boys . . . and this year they're serving up this?

Way to blow your load early, V Festival.

My bank account is increasingly festivalled out. Seriously, so many new festivals! I'm wondering how long they can keep coming up with new ones before some start failing. Also, someone should start a Duran Duran covers band called Durian Durian that re-writes their songs to be about smelly-yet-delicious fruit.

It's not looking terribly exciting for me.

Here's a list of everyone playing so far:
    * The Smashing Pumpkins
    * Duran Duran
    * Queens of the Stone Age
    * Mika (excluding Perth)
    * The Jesus and Mary Chain
    * The Presets
    * Air (excluding Perth)
    * Cansei de Ser Sexy
    * The Tough Alliance
    * Plug in City

i admit im only there for smashing pumpkins and queens of the stoneage (both of whom i was hoping would play big day out but oh well) but those 2 bands are worth my $130 ticket price and thats 2 more i can cross off my 'bands to see before i die' list

Any sideshows for the JAMC? Are JAMC any good live nowadays?

So far there is pretty much nothing getting me excited about this festival.  Air are pretty good, but I couldn't see myself going to a festival to see them.  CSS are ok.  The Presets are alright.  Mika are average.  Everything else with a big name seems like it would have been more exciting maybe 5 years ago.

Mika is average. All he is, is a filtered through third rate Freddie Mercury/Queen clone.

I am constantly haunted by this feeling about all music, all the time.

Also why do they always have festivals on the Gold Coast.  What the hell, people.

It's so it's easier for the Sydneysiders to drive there.

I will go to a JAMC sideshow. I cannot be bothered with the rest of the festival.

[edit]Wait a minute, I almost failed geography...

Sounds like it's gone the way of the English V Festival pretty damn quickly. Over here, V tends towards sub-par line ups and a crappy atmosphere. No fun.

I'm actually grateful I don't live in Australia. Being that close to such a concentration of bad music sounds scary.

Yeah, you did. It's, at the most, a three day drive and it is far from easy due to the treacherous coastal highways.
