... "lips are unhappy"?
I was hooked by that song when I heard it in a commercial, and recently I decided to check out the rest of the album, and I really really like it. I'm looking for other bands or tunes with a similar style, esp. the summat '60s type of sound :) clean and pretty and easy to listen to, mind you, no difficult experiments in atmospheric noise etc ;)
Anything come to mind? I checked out Pandora and through that I found The Detroit Cobras, which I also found to my liking, but it wasn't QUITE what I was looking for.
I'm hoping you guys can serve as a smarter Pandora. Any and all help is appreciated!
cheers

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also found The Pipettes through Pandora's recommendations... more of that sort, please!

Ah, two of my favorite albums & bands this year. The Long Blondes, Camera Obscura, and the Postmarks have somewhat similar sounds. You also might wanna go back and check out some of the Phil Spector era stuff that they're influenced by (I haven't, but I should too).
But first and foremost, check out Eisley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tSYExBdtzI

Someone on another forum mentioned Camera Obscura a little while ago, and I've enjoyed what I've heard from them so far! I had a hard time getting into Eisley, but I think I'd like The Long Blondes and The Postmarks a lot in a different mood.
Just can't figure out how to characterise the music, figure out what it is I like about it... apart from the fuzzy "it's kinda '60s". Sounds a bit orchestral? :P

Okay, so violins are a plus.

Man did these guys get that big that fast?
Weak.
-
If they hadn't then I'd prolly never have come across their music, so I'm glad they did :o may more sweet bands get real big real fast.
I don't think it's the violins I find appealing... it's the voice, or the vocal harmony... argh, this is where a little education in music would come in handy. I checked out Nicole Atkins because Pandora thought I might like her... she was all right, but not quite right! Will have to check out the others later.

No I like it better when music is only known to people I think are cool.
-
I want bands that make music I like to become well-known out of self-interest! There's an obvious benefit to me--I can find more sweet music quicker and easier. It'd totally enrich MY life. My life wouldn't be anywhere near as nice in your preferred reality, and I can't see how you'd benefit from it either!! My wish would lead to greater happiness for more people so I hope you can get behind it too :)

Though Indie Rock Pete wears those shirts, they were probably inspired by our own huggable Makeout Hobo.
-
After Indie Rock Pete's beard phase, I was honestly convinced they were both the some person in different comic universes.
-
I've tentatively decided that what I was hearing was what wikipedia calls the motown sound... is there any room in the indie scene or whatever it is for that sound?? I can't figure out where else I could find people making new music in that style!
-
I don't know how Motown-y they are, but I'm remembering how much fun the Rosebuds are: http://www.myspace.com/therosebuds
I think they're a solid pick over Au Revoir Simone in January. :)
