Have a look, some are bloody funny.
I was amused to find one band I know (and have a disc of), 17 Hippies (whose music has nothing to do with hippies, by the way, it's mostly Romani-style). What about you? Did you know some of them?

C'mon, The Twilight Sad may be an awful name but some of the bands on this list make it look quite good. Consider, if you will, Gay Baby, Poetic Justice League 4 America, The Asbestos Tampons, Butt Stomach, Mel Gibson and the Pants, Slut Barf, My! Gay! Husband! Clap! Clap!, The Giggle Club and Killgasm. These are downright painfully atrocious. Not the whole list is utterly awful, though. I don't think "Or, the Whale" and "Tigers Can Bite You" are so terrible. I actually quite like the first one.

There are much lamer names for good bands. I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness is easily the worst name for a pretty good band of all time.
It could be worse, they could be The Twilight Wolf.
Or The Sad Wolf.

apparently, their music is actually good. i wouldn't know but a reliable source of mine seems to enjoy them.

My Bloody Valentine is only a bad name these days. Before all those shitty pop-metal/emo bands with the overly dramatic names came about, I don't remember anyone ever thinking it was a bad name at all.

Because seriously I don't remember anyone sitting around in 1997 saying "Fuck, that's such a stupid name."
In fact I don't remember people complaining about band names at all until pretty recently.
I mean, how bad are names like Slint, Polvo, Pylon, Pavement, REM, U2, The Smiths, Sloan, Nitzer Ebb, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Belly, The Muffs, Ethyl Meatplow, Geraldine Fibbers, The Woggles, Ohio Package, June of 44... etc. Yet I honestly can't remember ever once having a conversation with anyone about band names being good or bad.

never heard that song. i've heard of that film but never watched it.
maybe i'm weird but i just always thought that was a corny name for a band. i don't think any of the others you listed were good names either but they are better, if only slightly because they don't have an obvious meaning (mostly. obviously U2 means something and few others do, as well).

"My Funny Valentine" is a show tune from the 1937 Rodgers and Hart musical Babes in Arms. It is now considered a jazz standard, appearing on over 1300 albums performed by over 600 artists.

I have never listened to either bands music but I would go solely on the strength of the names.

I've said it before; ALL BAND NAMES, if you really want to put a bit of thought into it, are stupid. I mean, come on, The Beatles? What the fuck guys?
All band names are stupid, but it doesn't really matter, because it's just a way of identifying a group of songs made by a group of people. Nothing more. Trying to make lofty allusions or aspersions with a band name is even more idiotic than calling your band Gay Witch Abortion.

My favorite on that list has to be Pistol Whipping Party Penguins, but nothing will ever top my brother's band's name: Fetus Fajitas.
