Now that this thread is here, I've been commissioned to make a "love" themed mix in the next few weeks. I'm taking suggestions for songs. I've got maybe a disc's worth of material, I need 2. As you might guess, the songs must have something to do with love. It's what I've been tasked with. Anything's good.

Kid van Pervert, if this love mix does not conclude with "Sex Bomb" by Flipper you have failed.

Edit: Also, put "Teenage Kicks" by the Undertones!
Title: Re: Return of the Mix!
Post by: KvP on 06 Jan 2008, 16:01
I will commence the tracking down.

When I finish a mix, I usually post it in the Mediafire thread.

Other people should do the same!
Oh, I thought that was bad form :(
Title: Re: Return of the Mix!
Post by: KvP on 06 Jan 2008, 16:15
I thought I remembered somebody disparaging mix posting in the mediafire thread, but that may have been my imagination.

I was wondering if this forum had a mix exchange type of deal, but with the mediafire thread (and the international membership) it seems a little quaint to rely on postage.
Title: Re: Return of the Mix!
Post by: KvP on 06 Jan 2008, 16:36
It's surprising that you'd have to make that rule. Making the mix is the fun part, after all. In the exchange I'm in, the main problem is that people don't get off their asses and post when they do have their mixes.

I just put together a mix for a friend of mine who was going on a road trip.  There is no theme to it, its just songs that I like and I thought he might like and probably didn't already own or listen to.

Happy Yellow Bumblebee - of Montreal
Skin Is, My - Andrew Bird
To Be Surprised - Sondre Lerche
Evening On The Ground (Lilith's Song) - Iron & Wine
Just Drums - Tapes n Tapes
Take On Me - Cap'n Jazz
Fifth Grade Tender - Sky Corvair
Sons of Cain - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
Cut Your Hair - Pavement
Big Dipper - Built To Spill
Rebound - Sebadoh
Leaders and Followers - Bad Religion
Where Have All The Rude Boys Gone? - Ted Leo & The Pharmacists
Don't Fear the Reaper (Live) - Elliott Smith
Girls & Boys - Blur
Pirate Infested Waters - Bob Nanna
Flim - Aphex Twin
Born Slippy (Nuxx) - Underworld

Its the third mix I have made for this person in the last few months, and its my favorite so far.

This is a bit disappointing. It should've been compiled entirely of songs that you can visualize blasting from your car stereo while driving down an interstate with the top down.

Well it wasn't crafted solely for his trip.  I was working on it and he went on this trip kind of spur of the moment so I quickly finished it and gave it to him so he'd have some sweet tunes to listen to on the way.

3. Evil - 45 Grave
4. Marilyn Moore - Sonic Youth
5. Dark Entries - Bauhaus
6. New Mind Swans
7. Something Must Break - Joy Division

15. Deep in the Woods - The Birthday Party
16. Death at the Chapel - The Horrors
17. Means to an End - Joy Division (Still version)
18. Driver Down - Trent Reznor (instrumental, don't worry, it was for the Lost Highway soundtrack)
19. Jesse - Scott Walker
20. Come on in Out of the Rain - 12 Rounds
21. Ending Credits - Opeth (because I'm a cheeky monkey)
Bonus track!: Ziggy Stardust - Bauhaus

Some of the song choices were kinda obvious (esp. the Siouxsie track) but whatever, at least it flowed alright.

We always seem to have a problem with Part 1 & Part 2 of the two stage process.

Maybe we could just keep this thread around and set up individual trades instead of anything on a bigger scale? Anyone wants to get involved and doesn't mind posting to the UK, I'm always up for it.

I uploaded some Indian Summer stuff which was in kind of a mess because that was the best I could do, so I prefaced the link by explaining exactly what you'd be getting if you downloaded it. Do that and if anyone complains then they're whining about free music which is pretty weak.

Well, I am working on a mix with the theme of "Drinking Songs".  Knowing me, of course, it consists of mostly Celtic, with some folk and country drinking songs thrown in for good measure.

I am also up for a physical mix exchange.

I've had people send me mixes with irish drinking songs on them (Whiskey You're the Devil, etc.) but I don't have any of my own, so I'd just be regurgitating somebody else's mix.

I'd be up for a physical exchange as well. I nominate Tommy would like to orchestrate it, if he feels it's worth it.

Dear Mr. BevNor

Good sir, I do believe that you have made a typographical error in the spelling of the second word in your statement, rendering it not only entirely unreadable, but simply shocking to my sensibilities as a native English speaker. If you could please remedy this situation promptly and then contact me by post when you have posted your correction, I would appreciate it greatly.

so, i do a radio show once a week at the college radio station near my school. when i told a friend that i was planning on making a mix from my own music for the show, he EXPLODED and the song titles/bands rained down like a shower of candy. (i absolutely love ridiculous metaphors.) anyway, here's the product of our creative mixation:

the king of carrot flowers pt. one: nmh
waltz #2 (xo): elliott smith
cliquot: beirut
keep the car running: arcade fire
you got yr. cherry bomb: spoon
province: tv on the radio
turn on me: shins
totem on the timeline: klaxons
ambulance: (more) tv on the radio
penny on a train track: ben kweller
marx & engels: belle & sebastian
in the wee small hours: frank sinatra
angel eyes: ella fitzgerald
radio war: iron & wine
samson: regina spektor
acid food: mogwai
the blower's daughter: damien rice
l'hymne a l'amour: edith piaf
a crack in time: ferraby lionheart
the predatory wasp of the palisades is out to get us!: sufjan s.
mushaboom: feist
the shining: badly drawn boy
emergency trap: (more) mogwai

and so...there it is.

Okay, the time is finally upon me. I need two mix CD themes. One was suggested by... Jimmy, I think, which was something along the lines of "embarrassing music to dance to". I think I can do that. The thing is that maybe 60% of my collected music was recently destroyed in a very necessary HD reformat. So I've got less than I usually would. Ensuring diversity may be a problem.

If I can't do well enough with what I've got I'll probably make updated, superior versions of previous mixes I've made, which sort of sucks, but they're the only mixes I've made that I really feel are good.

Suggestions?
