Title: The Phoenix Foundation
Post by: minus on 08 Jan 2008, 15:51
So I figured, if I'm going to join a forum full of people who appreciate good music, I'd try and whore off one of my favourite local bands at the moment: The Phoenix Foundation.

I adore them to bits and can upload some tracks to SendSpace if anyone is interested in hearing what New Zealand has to offer in terms of semi-indie bands (I'll be honest.. I'm not sure what to classify them as. But they like 80s music and had a Delorian in their last video clip "Bright Grey".)

Anyway. Let me know if you're interested! There isn't much info in this topic as I'm at work and lazy enough as it is. Google or Myspace them. They're mint! :)

There's a few tracks from TPF's Pegasus album and a couple of tracks from a yearly compilation, partially supported by our environment conscious politcal party The Green Party, The Green Room ['04]. It's more roots/rock/reggae/dub stuff, if anyone is into that.

I'll try and suss some of The Mint Chicks (Indie Pop and they've recently moved to Portland, Oregon) tracks and whatever else I can find. Let me know what you guys think and if there's a certain genre you'd like to hear from. :)

Chur!

Also, I'm not sure if there's a download or bandwidth limit on Sendspace. Let me know if it f*cks out.

That same Gryff got me into both the Mint Chicks AND the Phoenix Foundation. I remember, it was gabbly, I specifically asked him for music recommendations, because I know he rocks real rock. He pointed me  to the gmail account where he had uploaded "Damn The River".

Of course, I had both the albums but not since I smashed my old notebook...

Rocking Rock-rock is rocking real rock, real rocking is Rock-rock rocking.

I think my eyes just went criss-crossed..

I have TPF Pegasus album, but not Horsepower or their new Happy Ending album. The Mint Chicks just lost their bassist, I think, in the decision to move to Oregon. I remember reading on their website that they planned to continue as a trio for now. They're awesome live.. If you don't mind the fact that their lead singer (Kody, I think) seems to have snaked a few on-stage moves from Cedric Bixler-Zavala (circa ATD-i). A few of their tracks have the same ATD-i feel to them ('Post No Bills' and 'Licking Letters').

( I think that's the first time I've used the 'circa' phrase before.. Forgive me if it's misplaced.. It looks like it should be there though!  :-) )

New Zealand has a bigger Dub/Reggae scene than indie or rock. That and we love our Drum & Bass. If anyone is interested, once I'm set up in my new flat I'll suss out some State Of Mind and Shapeshifter tracks as well.

Too be honest I have found new zealand music average, the mint chicks are very good but other than that we lack much really interesting stuff.
