Well, according to my dad, Sam Beam is obviously a huge druggy.
He says anyone with a song like "Lovesong of the Buzzard", is obviously a grasshead.
"Cah Cah, lets go pick a carcases together!"
He says you guys probably all sit around in coffee shops wearing tight black turtle necks, drinking espresso, and updating your blogs.

My mom likes Iron & Wine, Feist and Low.
-
Your dad sounds like my new hero.
-
Your mom has good tastes, Johnny.

imapiratearg, what is the name of the comic from which you got your avatar?

Speaking of Iron & Wine, Sam Beam's started making recordings of his gigs available for download here (http://www.playedlastnight.com/). You have to pay for them, though.
-
I'd always assumed Sam Beam was a grasshead.

You obviously don't remember mine.
-
You know, I never have bothered to listen to any Iron & Wine except for that Postal Service cover they did however long ago.

It's a Garfield strip someone modified in Photoshop or something.

Start with the new one and work backwards (making sure to take in the Calexico collab along the way). I don't think they actually have any bad songs.

I don't know, I started with Our Endless Numbered Days and found his new album somewhat shocking. Of course, I've only heard the first single off of it. :|

Incidentally, I walked past Manning Bar and noticed Iron and Wine is playing at Sydney Uni if any of you Australians are interested. I'm not.

The new album was not shocking at all if you got the Woman King EP before that. That was probably necessary.
-
The Creek Drank the Cradle is an excellent, beautiful album.
Our Endless Numbered Days is not much more than an attempt to re-produce the success of Creek, but with better production and a few little bits and pieces added here and there. As such it comes off as patchy and vaguely unsatisfying.
The Calexico collaboration and Woman King are both good, but they've become footnotes somewhat with the release of the Shepherd's Dog, which is absolutely sumptuous and the logical progression of the sound that was being developed on both of those E.P.s.
In conclusion: if you're just starting out, get the Creek Drank the Cradle and the Shepherd's Dog.

Probably. I had a couple songs off of Woman King as well. I couldn't really get into it as easily as Our Endless Numbered Days, the Passing Afternoon EP, and The Creek Drank the Cradle.
-
Maybe because it's the first Iron and Wine that I got, and I tend to prefer whichever album I hear first, but I like Woman King more than I like The Shepard's Dog or Our Endless Numbered Days, even though I love them all good amounts.

tight black turtle necks, drinking espresso
More like underpants and cheap domestic beer.
