I think Tenacious D rule... They rock mah socks. But I can't seem to find anyone who likes them!!! Will anyone answer my unrequited love for Tenacious D?
-
*Yawn*
This is SO seven years ago.
-
they great to listen once in awhile, not everyday though.
-
Dude, it's all about Flight of the Conchords now. The same good two-guitar folk comedy interplay without any lame cock rock references.
Though I am partial to "Fuck You Gently" every once in a while, which is to say, never.
It's a good song though.
-
Last time I listened to Tenacious D was at Wacken Open Air, I think. It was like, the only CD we had, or something dumb.
-
F.Y.I. Some people... I posted this topic to find other people who LIKE Tenacious D. Not people who go looking through forums and take the time to insult my taste in music rather than doing something more construtive.
Like jumping off a cliff.
...Just saying
-
Oooh, I like this one. I haven't been here so long, but from what I have read, I think he will do just fine.
I haven't really heard much from them, as I am really cheap and don't buy many CDs.
-
Dogg if you post a topic about a band you like you got to fully expect some people to disagree. Also you're way new here so for better or for worse you are gonna get treated like a new kid by some of the Old Hands.
Personally I have never enjoyed Tenacious D, because I find Jack Black rather annoying.
I prefer my musical comedy along the lines of Future of the Left. Andy Falkous is one funny motherfucker.
-
Hmm... I'm cheaper. Think about the cheapest person you know, and multiply that by 5,672. I've never paid for any music whatsoever. If my iPod was found by the wrong people I'd be sued so far into debt I'd end up selling myself on the street. Mind you, I do that now, but that's just for the fun.
Pretend I didn't say that.
-
I used to enjoy them from time to time. They were funny to me long ago. But then the meathead down the hall from me started playing the album EVERY FUCKING DAY
I no longer can stand Tenacious D
-
Andy Falkous is one funny motherfucker.
Jeph, stop killing prostitutes.
-
I don't really care much for Tenacious D. It's fun to quote their songs from time to time, though. My favorite is: "That's fuckin' teamwoooork!"
-
Anyone seen the movie? A lot of their songs are actually from that, such as Classico, Kickapoo and Master Exploder.
-
I watched the movie over break. It was pretty much a big stack of blah.
-
Well, Tenacious D are good for comedy (kinda) but not as actual music to sit down and listen to.
-
They are ok. I have their first CD and I thought it was real funny the first couple of times I listened to it. Then I knew all the jokes and it wasn't funny anymore. Then Tenacious D wasn't interesting for me to listen to anymore.
-
Ok, just downloaded the pick of destiny songs. I think I know them all, but I will post some comments on them in a bit.
-
Flight of the Conchords is the way to go my friend. It's been said. I am simply restating this fact in order to move up on the forum ladder. Consider yourself 'rung'ed my friend.
Tv-links.cc will of course offer you many an amazing episode. IF not sidereel sure will.
-
I've never paid for any music whatsoever
You are a terrible person. Seriously.
-
I love their first album to bits, its fucking Gold. You can't really put it in solid constant rotation without it getting a bit old, but in sporadic doses, I love the album to bits. Its a shame the Pick of Destiny soundtrack wasn't better because I didn't mind the movie, good simple throwaway comedy to watch stoned out of your mind, but the album bored the shit out of me, even though most of the songs worked relatively well in the context of the movie

And yeah, its pretty much impossible to start a topic on a music forum about music without someone having a contrary opinion, wanting to tell you about it. That is why this is internet and not real life, we are under no obligation to put kid gloves on. If you honestly want to start a topic about how awesome Tenacious D are and not have people disagree with you, the only place you might even have a chance of that even happening is the Tenacious D message board, and even then, Internet is a cruel mistress.
As for Flight of the Conchords, I just don't get it. I can't get it. I don't find it funny, I don't get why other people find it funny, it just doesn't seem to have any *pop* to it, its just missing something I want from that kind of music, a certain X-factor that I pretty much attribute to a chemistry that JB and KG have that the Conchords dudes just don't seem to have to me.
-
Since the OP seems to have decided against my offer, I'll open it up to the floor.
First person to send me their address gets an unworn Tenacious D shirt, a bit on the large size.
-
So you're saying they don't 'fuck you gently' enough? or perhaps it's too gently?
-
Define "a bit on the large size" Tommy.
-
Internet reflexes

Hat got the first PM in.
Them's the breaks. Sorry everyone.
-
You can still mail me some cool indie clothes if you want.

The actual show is considerably funnier than most of their songs, to be fair.
That said, you don't even find this one funny? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbbxA8a_M_s)

I was prepared to post back with a sarcastic cynical comment but that was hilarious.
-
Their first album was hilarious and refreshing. Their newer one, the soundtrack to "The Pick of Destiny," is..atrocious. The first album wasn't solely potty humor, it had wit and life to it. "Destiny" is basically just "Fuck you, motherfucker!"
However, I find Jack Black to be funny--in limited quantities.
Flight of the Conchords and Tenacious D aren't really all that comparable. Their style of humor and music are both vastly different.
-
I've seen some pretty terrible songs by Flight of the Concords, but I also saw two that were nothing but pure genius. I'm not a fan, but these songs were absolutely fantastic. The right amount of delightful, funny, charming and witty.
The first was a song about a man who passed a woman in the park named 'Jenny', and the throughout the song she is telling him about the last time they met while he tries to remember her.
The second was a song about David Bowie, preceded by a story about the band traveling back in time and impressing him with his own songs.
Tenacious D don't compare. They're hilarious at times, terrible at others, much like Flight of the Conchords, but it's a completely different brand of humour.
-
I'm not a big fan of all of Flight of the Conchords songs, most are good for one listen, but as I said, the HBO series is effing hilarious.
-
Jack Black is basically a less funny version of my friend Jack. The music's okay. What always gets me is the butt-baby episode.

See, I didn't really get any laughs out of that, although I might check out their TV show, I never even knew they had one.

I loved the first Tenacious D album, until I'd heard it just about every day for a year. I gave the album and the Masterworks DVD to my friend Jason's little brother.

Ah, gay jokes, the best thing to ever come into the world.
-
I had no idea what gender the person I was refering to was.
You might need some help if a simple "my virginity" will create such an illicit response, anyways...
ANYWAYS, I was walking my dog last week and... (ramble)
-
gentlemen could we maybe take this to a pm

I love the way we added 'weak-boarding' to our lexicon. It makes me smile every time that I see it, and I feel slightly nostalgic.
