Two bands out of Regina, Geronimo and Sylvie, are also playing. Both are quite excellent. If you were a fan of Jade Tree band Despistado back in the day before they broke up, members are involved in each.
-
Spoon and Thurston Moore?! Awesome! Too bad I live in California.
I could go to Coachella (http://www.coachella.com/images/mainPoster.jpg), but the bands playing this year don't interest me much (except for Animal Collective, Islands, Metric, Murs, and a few others). Jack Johnson headlining? Seriously?
-
Sam, you better at least get to Asobi Seksu.
Anti-Flag? Are they even fucking relevant anymore?
-
no. no, they aren't.
but the rest of that list looks pretty damn good.
edit: what the hell is this thing!? i just skimmed through the whole list and found at least a hundred more bands i'd love to see that you didn't mention. this can't be some sort of festival can it? there are way too many bands on that list.
-
Seriously, dude?
SXSW is probably the biggest music festival in the United States. It's less a festival than it is a huge glut of bands playing a ridiculous number of venues in Texas.
-
;_;
-
i'm just as surprised as you are, johnny. this is the type of thing that i would have at least heard of at some point but i guess i'm out of the loop, or something.
now i need to figure out how to get my ass to Texas.
-
sam get me passes I am coming to Texas
-
I just saw Geronimo tonight.
People attending this event, I cannot stress enough how excellent Geronimo are. They are absolutely phenomenal. Consummate musicians in every sense.
-
Okay, we will just break into all the places through the roof. I need to see Lou Reed.
-
Apparently it's badge only.
Might I suggest grand larceny?
-
Jandek?
I know he's actually appeared on stage in recent years, but I am surprised to see him do such a big festival. But looking at Wikipedia he has done All Tomorrow's Parties, so I guess I should have seen this coming. Since Jandek is very Texas.
-
Oh shit, I did not even see Jandek on the list. Must see Jandek!
-
That is a great list. I do not live in Texas.
Conclusion: Why do I not live in Texas?
-
I remember thinking I should go a few years back, and then seeing last year how even the Economist had an article on it, which basically means it is too big for me (not that it's not awesome, just that it sounds really crowded and thus expensive). Kinda like Coachella before it, though SXSW does sound better musically.

Blue Cheer are still alive?
-
Must see Jandek!
If that film Must Love Dogs starring John Cusack had been titled Must See Jandek instead, it would have been a much better movie.
-
This is why Texas rocks.
-
Decent music festivals and bean-less chili?
I can see why my friend is emigrating to Boston ASAP.
-
Does anyone know where one can find the list broken down by club so that you can tell what shows are All Ages, 18+, and 21+ only?
-
Soon enough ohmyrockness.com will have a list for SXSW soon. I think they did one last year and it had ages and everything.
-
I may have to sign a contract offering up my next of kin to guarantee sometime at SXSW, because that line-up is pretty spectacular. Thanks for giving a heads up on the link/line-up.
-
Thanks for the heads up, mfpole, I'll check back there periodically until they [hopefully] post one.
