Inspired by the thread in which I was assfucked by Johnny C, I challenge you, ladies and gents of the forum, to a duel TO THE DEATH to see who can do the best/worst cover of any semi-well-known song.
My first challenge to you: Chasing Cars (http://www.box.net/shared/ngwdul3lwc)
P.S. EUGENE PROMISED ME HE'D DO THIS SO EVERYBODY SHOULD HARRASS HIM MERCILESSLY UNTIL HE DOES
-
Would the Christmas CD I made with my sister count? I could definitely upload that.
Oh, wait, I don't have it on this computer. Damn.
-
Tomorrow after school. That's in about 16 hours guys.
You can feel free to fling shit at me if I do not deliver by then.
-
Can't sing worth a shit + not very good on guitar = I AM IN.
-

My first challenge to you: Chasing Cars (http://www.box.net/shared/ngwdul3lwc)
That was freaking fantastic.
If I played some sort of instrument I might try this. I guess I could fiddle around with Audacity and see if I can mix up a couple of tracks and create some awesomeness...
-
You can feel free to fling shit at me if I do not deliver by then.
Can't sing worth a shit + not very good on guitar = I AM IN.
Hey uh. You guys. What happened. FUCKING HOP TO.
-
Mmh, I enjoyed that 100x more than i enjoy the song normally.
I'll put something together if I can get a mic working/ people out of my house.
-
No ifs, ands, or buts, I was promised at least two covers and I have not seen delivery and it's almost been a week.
-
Yeah I fucking fail. I'll see what I can do but chances are I'm just going to hope people forget about this. Too busy at the moment.
-
We Will Not Forget.
Get to it, slacker.
-
i did a lovely shit cover of "ring of fire" using a kazoo
-
Can this be done acapella? Or do I have to at least try to learn how to make Garage Band music? But then again, this is for the WORST cover, so maybe I should go for it! We'll see.
-
Sometime in the near future (by friday) expect a cover from me.
-
Alright, guys. I am participating this time around. Probably by the end of this week, I shall have a cover of "Pride (In the Name of Love)" by U2 all done. I really hate U2, and I think I could do a better job at it.
-
dalconnsuch and imapiratearg: I appreciate your enthusiasm, but guys the challenge is "Chasing Cars"
godinpants that was pretty much the most amazing thing ever.
-
No ifs, ands, or buts, I was promised at least two covers and I have not seen delivery and it's almost been a week.
I've been sick to the point where breathing wasn't an option. I'll get on it eventually.
-
I did a pretty awful cover of "last christmas" once. I think I deleted it.
-
I've been sick to the point where breathing wasn't an option. I'll get on it eventually.
Get better lungs, pussy.
-
If I just submit 311 doing the Cure's "Love Song" will I automatically win?
-
Yeah, since that's a terrible cover of Chasing Cars. They even get the words all wrong.
-
YOU must be the one to do the cover. Don't cheat.
-
Most amazing idea for a thread ever.
-
I think Avril Lavigne already won this thread when she covered Chop Suey.
-
I think Avril Lavigne already won this thread when she covered Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Fixed that for you, bud.
-
Nah, man. The Chop Suey cover definitely takes the cake on awful.
-
dalconnsuch and imapiratearg: I appreciate your enthusiasm, but guys the challenge is "Chasing Cars"
Oh, I see. I guess I misunderstood. I assumed the challenge was "Who can make the worst cover of any song of your choice."
-
I wish I could afford I keyboard. I would make sweet songs with that thing.
-
Well, if you had a Mac, you could use the little tiny version that Garage Band gives you, but noooooo. (I have actually never used said keyboard because I don't really get it.)
Do it vocally. Like that thing Slick posted in the voices thread. Or bang on things. Anything can be an instrument! Just don't go banging on animals and people for sounds, because that's not nice!
-
Oh, I see. I guess I misunderstood. I assumed the challenge was "Who can make the worst cover of any song of your choice."
We need a couple more challengers for "Chasing Cars" before we start another challenge, but eh. Looks like some lazyasses aren't going to do it. So hell, go for it.
-
What if I did both? Thus, the new challenge would be the U2 song.
-
Well, if you had a Mac, you could use the little tiny version that Garage Band gives you, but noooooo. (I have actually never used said keyboard because I don't really get it.)
I do not own a Mac, also the onscreen keyboard wouldn't work too well as you can't really use it like a real keyboard.
Also all vocals won't really work for me as I'm not exactly the master at layering tracks and stuff.
-
I'll do Chasing Cars!
Guys, you gots to suck it up and do the first challenge before you get going on the next one!
-
If we get a song that I actually have heard of/am aware of at all I might give it a go. I have lots of free time.
-
Youtube! Myspace! Etcetera!
-
Chasing Cars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfZUxPF7AMI)
Pride (In the Name of Love) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k04KzgYRKrE&feature=related)
Tada!
-
You, my friend, are a dirty cheater.
-
I'm not cheating. I was putting those links up so people could hear the originals. I will do my versions when I get my acoustic back. Which should be by the end of the week, hopefully.
-
Yeah, mmhmm, that's what they all say.
-
You just don't want others to make worse mixes than you!
But actually, if you don't know the song, you should just make a cover of it anyways. This is the "Let's see who can do the shittiest cover" thread. So really, he was doing you a favor!
-
I might actually do this later tonight.
-
Chasing Cars (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfZUxPF7AMI)
I have never actually seen the video for this until now, and it is kindof disappointing.
-
I guess I'm glad I didn't watch it.
-
LESS YAPPY MORE CRAPPY
-
I am proud to announce that I am finally working on this and will hopefully have it recorded by Friday.
Or whenever my friend lets me use his mic.
-
So I didn't realize this was just chasing cars before I recorded this so....
Me doing Glycerine by Bush: (http://www.box.net/shared/gj6m8qvz4c)
fire away!
(I know it's in the wrong key, and a few of the words are off. My excuse: shitty cover contest.)
-
I like your voice!
-
Thanks, pirate!
I had some more time today, so I knocked this out -- I'm not as happy with the guitar or the vocals as I was with glycerine, but I figured I'd post it, since it's more relevant to the "contest"...
Chasing Cars (http://www.box.net/shared/3rb0lr4co8)
-
Damn. My cover sounds a lot like TheTank's, except that my voice is a squillion times worse.
I'll spend some extra time finding a backup vocalist or something, kay guys?
-
Here is "Chasing Cars." (http://www.box.net/shared/qb2ncp5sgk)
-
You never cease to amaze me sir.
-
That was fucking gorgeous.
But I like how no one is actually making any bad covers, and that's the whole purpose of the thread.
-
Don't worry, my cover is going to be terrible.
-
Goddamnit Johnny, stop being so good at covers.
Here is me turning this song terribly emo. (http://www.mediafire.com/?dzm4ujy3hhm) I warn you, the quality is horrible. Also, the vocals in the beginning are horrible and stupid, but I don't feel like redoing them.
-
Prepare yourselves before you listen to this. There is not one thing that isn't shitty about this cover. I mean, seriously. You do not know shitty until you have listened to this.
http://www.box.net/shared/j6kov3334c
Doing this wouldn't have been nearly as fun if I'd been taking it seriously.
-
Oh my god it sounds like a really bad country song.
Gemm, what happened to your really nice voice from that demo track?
-
I made it bad on purpose. I rarely fail to meet a challenge.
-
I really don't want to do this song. Can I do a different one, guys? It'll still suck horridly.
-
Pick a new one so I can keep doing my coursework.
-
New song: SexyBack (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAT5ypTjKOI) by Justin Timberlake.
GO.
-
...are you serious? Is there even a chord progression to that song?
-
Apparently it's a whole lot of A and A#.
Any more for any more?
-
Therein lies the point. Make it something better than it already is.
Basically I just want to hear Johnny singing "Dirty baaaaaaaaaabe, you see these shackles baby I'm your slaaaaaaaaave. I'll let you whip me if I misbehaaaaaaaaaave, it's just that no one makes me feel this waaaaay."
-
I wholeheartedly approve. My Chasing Cars was too embarassing to be submitted.
How involved do I have to be in the cover? I really want my female bandmate to do lead vocals.
-
I did it just now, actually. Prepare to have your minds (or eardrums) blown.
Box.net seems to hate me, for some reason, so I'm doing Mediafire.
CHALLENGE ACCEPTED, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. (http://www.mediafire.com/?cpgu1dxtyge)
P.S. The mic I used to record this on sucks. So you'll get popping at any volume, as far as I know.
-
"Dirty baaaaaaaaaabe, you see these shackles baby I'm your slaaaaaaaaave. I'll let you whip me if I misbehaaaaaaaaaave, it's just that no one makes me feel this waaaaay."
See, this is something I want to hear YOU sing.
I will cover "Smooth Criminal" if I get my Mac working.
-
Pick a new one so I can keep doing my coursework.
I'm working on a shitty "Song Against Sex" cover, but I don't have a trumpet or a kazoo. I figure I'll just yell out the trumpet parts.
BA DAT DA DA DAAAAA, BA DAT DA DA DAAAAAA-AHHHHHH
-
Shane, thank you that is a brilliant idea!
-
Extra points: It's gonna be such a bitch to do cos my right wrist is staging a coup de PAIN.
-
A cup of bread?
-
I will outsource you so quickly, dude.
-
You people have such weird ideas about what qualifies as a bad song.
-
Any song covered by me = bad.
-
I don't actually think my version of "Chasing Cars" is all that bad. I just thought it was weird. I like it more than the original, though. (Is it conceited to think that?)
-
You people have such weird ideas about what qualifies as a bad song.
Which song are you referring to?
Also,
See, this is something I want to hear YOU sing.
It will take a lot to get me to sing this for you.
-
"Smooth Criminal"?
"Sexyback"?
"Song Against Sex," for crying out loud?
These aren't bad songs!
-
See, I don't think SexyBack is a bad song at all. I really like it. But because of the song I thing you could make some really good covers of it.
-
Those aren't bad songs. Unless you're referring to the Alien Ant Farm version of "Smooth Criminal." My god, they suck.
-
That's actually what I was planning on doing.
While I agree that their cover of that song really is kindof shit, I will never agree that Alien Ant Farm suck. I like them.
-
http://www.mediafire.com/?8m1n13vjmz3
fog(again)-radiohead
-
Since everyone seems to be doing their own thing, and none of the songs anyone seems to be picking are bad songs, I think this thread should be changed to something like: "Show Us Your Covers Thread" or something. Basically, this thread should just be for people who want to cover silly songs or makes silly covers of songs.
-
"Smooth Criminal"?
"Sexyback"?
"Song Against Sex," for crying out loud?
These aren't bad songs!
Surely it's easier to do a shitty cover of a good song, though? Or at least, it becomes more clear that that the shitness of it is down to you, and not the song.
-
Guys this thread needs a challenge song though.
I say we cover Hoogie Boogie Land.
-
How can you cover the greatest song ever written
-
Guys, I apologize for necroposting, but I feel like I have to revive this thread with some covers my friends and I recorded today.
Behold:
http://www.box.net/shared/0528d2om08
We do versions of "All I Want Is You" by Barry Louis Polisar (the song in the intro credits on Juno), "Anyone Else but You" by The Moldy Peaches, and we absolutely massacre "Eight Days A Week" by the Beatles.
NEW CHALLENGE?
I thought this was a great idea for a thread back when it was started...
-
I missed the hell out of this thread.
Good necropost corpsefucking.
-
I nominate "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban as the next shitified song.
-
This thread may actually get me off my ass and onto recording some stuff. It's been awhile. I'll have it up by Friday! I've never heard the song, but that just sweetens the pot.
-
Oh my god, I just checked it out on Youtube. "Hey, let's keep changing the key so it sounds dramatic!" And it's a big ripoff of Danny Boy. I'll definitely cover this, I'm sure I'll win for the shittiest cover because I'm a terrible musician.
Also, I really like Gemmwah's cover of Chasing Cars.
-
"You Raised Me Up" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/You_Raise_Me_Up) is to the tune of Londonderry Air (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Londonderry_Air) (Danny Boy also uses this tune), and Josh Groban didn't write the thing. As wiki says, it's been covered more than 125 times. It still is a pretty terrible song.
-
I think I will do a bad version of "Suspicious Minds" by one Elvis Presley as soon as I can actually record shit again. Which might be a while, my friend has yet to finish fixing my laptop (and then he has to ship it, blugh). But it will happen eventually.
I hope you guys liked Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
-
http://www.box.net/shared/vade68508y
We didn't know there was a REAL version of this song until many months after we covered it. We sorta winged it.
-
I did a halfway-decent cover of Silkworm's "Nerves (http://www.filesavr.com/nerves)" this morning as a warmup for National Solo Album Month. I did everything (Drums, Bass, Guitars and Vocals) and it's not really that great. I'm a horrendous drummer (drumming on horrendous drums) and I absolutely fucked up the guitar solo, and my voice... probably doesn't really fit the song.
Regardless, there it is for you.
-
That was pretty friggin' awesome.
