Looked for a thread, didn't see one.
So Michel Gondry's love letter to amateur filmmaking came out yesterday. Anybody see it? I did. I thought the plot was a little scatterbrained, but Michel Gondry is sort of like Miyazaki in that when you go to one of their films you know you're going to steal a peek into an unbelievably creative mind, so it almost doesn't matter. The movie recreations are obviously hilarious, but the rest of the movie is pretty good, if you don't mind a little schmaltz.

I am okay with schmaltz.
I missed my opportunity to see it this weekend. I might go to a matinee or just wait til next weekend.

I wish I had time to see movies. School sucks.

I wish I had the money to see movies. School sucks.

I wish I had friends to go to movies with. Life sucks.

I really liked it.
I'm starting to believe Michel Gondry can do no wrong.
Also, I cried at the end.

Meta-trailer! (http://www.joblo.com/sweded-be-kind-trailer)
I don't know if they had a contest or what, but if you google "Sweded Films" you'll find a whole bunch of amateur remakes done in the Be Kind Rewind style. On the official site they have a rather long Fellowship of the Ring remake. I personally enjoyed the Die Hard remake.

I enjoyed it. I think it lacked the emotional capacity and depth of Eternal Sunshine and Science of Sleep, though still retains the charm.

I haven't had an opportunity to see this yet. All the movie theatres in my area are owned by the same people. For some reason they refuse to show the movies actually worth seeing on the correct opening weekend. So I won't be seeing Be Kind, Rewind for another 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure 27 Dresses is still playing....uuuuuuugh.
-
I know how that goes. The company that owns all the theaters in my city tends to have disagreements with distribution companies, which is why it took an extra month for us to get Sweeney Todd and Cloverfield.
-
That's one thing I was glad about returning home to Las Vegas for. There's a ton of huge theaters. Just about every major casino has one, which means they have great upkeep and lots of space. There's a lot of premier events here, too. I know that Ocean's Thirteen premiered at the Brenden Theaters at the Palms Hotel and Casino.

I saw it last nite. I thought It was great but the people I was with did'nt enjoy it. As long as you've seen all the movie's they remake you'll like it. I'll put it this way it's a low budget movie about two guys making low budget movies... :?

I think it looks pretty good, and I am glad to hear positive opinions. I think Jack Black can be pretty hilarious if he tries, which he doesn't do often.

It was funny, and definitely worth seeing.

The Die Hard remake was pretty good.
The beast master remake was brilliant though. It's the one that won first place in their award show.
Everything Michel Gondry has done/touched is golden.

My favorite part was when they were remaking "Rush Hour 2" and they had some guy laying on one of those spinning things people put on their kitchen tables "you know they keep condiments on them" and they put that thing on like a mat with roads to play with dinky cars with. So when they spun it, iti looked like he fell out a building.
That spinning thing, I think their called "Lazy Susans"

Waaaant! This film. Better happen this weekend. It makes me sad that it is not doing so well on RT, and after all sorts of critics dissed it I was genuinely worried. Then I remembered that everyone dumped on The Science of Sleep, which I loved anyway. Yay!
