my vote goes for rockstar's bully.
http://www.emusic.com/album/10966/10966886.html (http://www.emusic.com/album/10966/10966886.html)
everything is composed by Shawn Lee, and the songs range from groovy 80s beats, hard grunge riffs of the following decade, upbeat keyboard/synth tunes and mellow bass filled tracks. all around an awesome cd that everyone should have. the album is available for free, amazingly. download each file one at a time to avoid having to sign up with emusic, and thank the saints of rockstar.
so, any other ideas? :?

The Katamari Damacy music was completely insane, and made the game like 100 times more fun.
-
Wrong forum, poor choice, forgot to search. This thread fails.
-
i wasn't sure if this was the right forum, but since the thesis of the thread is 'original music' i went ahead. if the computer/video game forum is more appropriate, then a mod will move it.

This guy. (http://www.inonzur.com)

Some game's I've really enjoyed the music for:
Smash Bros Brawl
Shadow of the Colossus
Super Mario Galaxy
Pokemon (Orig gamebo)
-
Tetris song A
-
man, how could i forget ocarina of time?
this (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5UxUbB1NgZE&NR=1") guy (http://"http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nad5AJaIcBI&NR=1") at least keeps true to the old tunes.
all* of these games mentioned so far are good, but some are more than ten years old. OoT turned ten this year.
-
Shadow of the Colossus.....Kow Otani is EPIC. Ocarina of Time fails because they've been recycling that music for every game since they created it however many years ago...don't believe me? play the game. Katamari Damacy is....well....it's special.
-
Oh man that one song that plays during the credits of We (Heart) Katamari is the epitome of the word "special"
-
Fallout, Witcher.
-
Will nobody mention Bioshock or do I have to?
-
Fallout, Witcher.
are you referring to the first fallout game for the PC?
-
Tetris song A
Song C was better
-
Oh come on now, Amon Tobin (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:kpfpxqtsldke).

Electroplankton!
-
Electroplankton!
er, explain?
-
Yeah, Electroplankton wins simply because you make the soundtrack yourself.
-
And no matter what you do, it sounds good. I still haven't unlocked that stage in Brawl, but when I do, that's all I'm playing.
I heard the sequel will actually let you save music this time.
-
Did Xenogears happen before 10 years ago? If so, that gets my vote.
-
Electroplankton!
er, explain?
This guy, Iwai Toshio, made this game for the DS. There's a bunch of fish and other organisms and you use them to make music. It's even a part of my band!
Of course, next month or two Korg are releasing an actual DS software synth, which I'm sure will be most sexificating.
-
i heard about a game like that coming out for the psp called patapon. the music is supposed to be ass-shakingly catchy.
-
Fallout, Witcher.
are you referring to the first fallout game for the PC?
Yes. As far as I'm aware there is only one Fallout?
-
if you don't count fallout 2 and tactics, as well some other game for the ps2 i think was called fallout something...

Fallout: Brotherhood Of Steel....soundtrack was pretty interesting but I died too much to appreciate it.
-
Blegh @ the ps2 version.
Wasn't the fallout 2 soundtrack the same as the first, though?
-
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind
the exploring music is glorius as well, makes me nostalgic (the little bit thats missing for me is the silt strider sounds).
http://youtube.com/watch?v=z_7n16vh79k&feature=related
or
Diablo II
the classic tristram theme, never has the theme music and general atmosphere made me as depressed as the Diablo games.

Definitely. Red Alert 2 had a good soundtrack (Hell March FTW), and Fallout 2 was quite excellent and atmospheric. Golden Sun 1 & 2, apart from being the best games ever, also had excellent soundtracks.
Having said that, I find it distressing that no one has mentioned the doom sound track.

NEED I SAY MORE?
-
I enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack quite thoroughly.
-
The Sims 2's music is wonderfully wonderful. Chalk another one up for Mark Mothersbaugh!
-
I concur.
-
Blegh @ the ps2 version.

For the most part. There were new songs for Arroyo, Vault City, New Reno, San Francisco, Modoc and Redding. Which as far as I'm concerned are all excellent. Plus, they weren't derivative of the Aphex Twin, like several of the original songs.
You know there is a duplicate thread in the Computer forum. And it contains links.
-
Portal, silly.
Okay, there's only one song. But it's a soundtrack in itself.
-
I'm a pretty big fan of the Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack.
-
I'm a pretty big fan of the Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack.
It's one of my favorite albums of all time.
I've never seen anyone else mention it! <3
-
Chrono Cross. Hands down the best video game music composed.
I love Stubbs the Zombie soundtrack, but that's not really "original." It's modern covers of classics.
-
Having said that, I find it distressing that no one has mentioned the doom sound track.

Well, it isn't past ten years, but otherwise I would agree with you, at least in part due to how many of the tracks were just barely not metal songs (pantera, metallica, slayer, etc). It is good to have a lawyer making the music, he knows what he can get away with.

Portal, silly.

Agreed.
And it's practically a soundtrack when you play it 20+ times in one sitting... I mean... I've never done that.

Doom's soundtrack may sound vaguely similiar to some of the more popular bands, but they actually completely ripped off a few more obscure thrash bands.
Whatever, though. Still freakin' awesome.
-
Not just obscure ones. I am sure if I went through it, I would notice some Testament, Exodus, Overkill, or something, but just here they have about ten examples. http://www.doomworld.com/linguica/doomcovers/

It isn't just that this thread is in the wrong forum, (It can stay here if it wants to.) but there is already a veeery similar thread right here (http://forums.questionablecontent.net/index.php/topic,17223.100.html).

this is sickening how come nobody has mentioned zelda:Majora's Mask yet?

Why do you have to point out every little thing. ;_;

No love for Quake?
-
Err, totally forgot about that one, it's by NIN right?
-
Metroid has an incredibly unique soundtrack. All of them, but it shows up best in the Prime series.
-
Err, totally forgot about that one, it's by NIN right?
Yep. But *I* just realized that the topic is best video game music of the last 10 years, and Quake is over 11 years old now. D'oh!
-
I am listening right now to some songs from the Sonic the Hedgehog (2006 game) soundtrack.
Mariko Nanba is very good at this music composition thing or whatever you call it.

Yeah, that is the problem. I liked the music in it well enough, but I usually had Black Sabbath's s/t, Paranoid, and The thing that should not be by Metallica on a loop. I found it fit better than the soundtrack.
