Title: Apparently There are alot of Steps to take
Post by: praber31 on 31 Mar 2008, 07:41
In my other thread - taking the next step - I asked for suggestions of where to go for my next album and this was the list I got:

1) Calexico
2) Fatigo
3) Loggins
4) A Hawk and a Hacksaw
5) Man Man
6) Jeremy Wallace
7) Spiderland
8) Fun House
9) Decemberists
10) Beirut's
11) White Rose Movement
12) Mariachi Luz De Luna
13) Okkervil River
14) Pavement
15) Bon Iver
16) White Stripes
17) The Pixies
18) Afghan Whigs
19) Band of Horses
20) Tapes n' Tapes
21) Mountain Goats
22) Spoon
23) The Evens
24) Les Savy Fav
25) Blue Pine
26) Frog Eyes
27) Owls
28) Fllet Foxes
29) The Dears
30) Arcade Fire
31) Dismemberment Plan
32) El Olio Wolof
33) TDP
34) My Bloddy Valentine
35) Of Montreal
36) The Thermals
37) The Blood
38) The Machine
39) Sigur Ros
40) Marquee Moon

I am going to work my way through them but is there a sentiment on the board of ordering the list some?

Thanks.

Spot the in-joke! -JC

You didn't have to make a new thread for this. But as far as I'm concerned, given your situation and my knowledge of the list,

1) Spoon
2) Pavement
2) The Pixies
2) White Stripes
3) Okkervil River
4) Arcade Fire
4) Decemberists
5) Of Montreal
6) Band of Horses
6) Les Savy Fav
7) Sigur Ros
7) My Bloody Valentine

I would suggest taking these in (roughly) this order.

I'd probably throw Beruit in there, and put Sigur Ros higher, but imagist's list is a pretty good springboard.

31 and 33 are the same. The Dismemberment Plan = TDP.

1) Judas Priest - Painkiller
2) All that godawful bleating indie crap you mentioned.

Like I said, my list was pretty much based off my knowledge of a) the bands/albums he listens to (from the other thread) and b) the bands he wants to get into. It seemed like an appropriate progression for the man from where he is to where he ought to be (well, except for Spoon, I just like Spoon so I put it first).

I really don't know Mountain Goats well enough to place them on an ordered list.

i'd take white stripes off all together, if you want rep rock look for the smurmurs

if you want blues? get real blues

white stripes have combined two great genres but didn't do either of them great

Steps?? What is this, Indie Scenesters Anonymous?

I accept with God's help that major labels are evel.
I accept that only independent labels are Godly, and from this point on I shall only ever listen to music from indie labels.

@dalconnsuch: THE IRONY

Broken Social Scene should at least be in the top 5 and I do not see any Wilco anywhere.

Hey Fat Wreck has the Lawrence Arms, Mad Caddies, Lagwagon, No Use For A Name, fucking NoFX, and all the -Flag bands

And that's all you need to know.

You really do not get the premise of this thread, do you.

BSS was not in the list the OP compiled, and he already listens to Wilco according to his other thread.

31 and 33 are the same. The Dismemberment Plan = TDP.

This is for emphasis, to make sure he listens to them ASAP.

definitely. the D Plan is one of my favourite bands. just so much energy, and so much fun. Emergency and I is generally the album to listen to first. Is Terrified is my personal favourite.

Worse, we're overlooking Guns 'n' Wankers, Dillinger Four and 88 Fingers Louie. Oops.

I think the point Patrick was trying to make is that he should listen to more Wilco.

Shane is correct in guessing my motives, and I am well aware that BSS wasn't on the original list. Why the hell do you think I suggested them?

That was more sage advice than offense.

Somewhat ironic considering you've been listening to them for about three days...

Yeah... Please, don't do that.

You're right, it needs fixing.

1) Judas Priest - Painkiller
2) All that godawful bleating indie crap you mentioned. More Judas Priest.

Music =/= women. If you fall in love with a band after 3 days, you're not retarded.

Thanks for the help everybody! I am still wading through the list but I am enjoying most of it so far.
