Title: I ran out CDs to buy, please help me spend money!
Post by: MrSteevo on 02 Apr 2008, 16:48
Ok guys and gals. I've got some extra cash, and I want to buy a new album, but I dont know who's good out there.
I have all of Iron & Wines
I have "Do you like rock music?" by British Sea Power
I have all Broken Social scene
I have a good bit of Arcade fire.
and I have "Oh no! Oh my!"
So, from these, who should I get next?

Ghost by Radical Face. Amazing album. Or you could buy One Time For All Time by 65daysofstatic, one of my favourite albums ever.

Looking at what little you've listed, I would heartilly recommend the following, album titles in brackets:

Wolf Parade (Apologies To The Queen Mary0
Stars (Set Yourself On Fire)
Archers Of Loaf (Icky Mettle)
Final Fantasy (Has A Good Home)
Beirut (Flying Club Cup)
Bonnie "Prince" Billy (I See A Darkness)
Death From Above 1979 (Death From Above 1979)
Immaculate Machine (Fables)
Julie Doiron (Woke Myself Up)
Low (Things We Lost In The Fire)
Sloan (One Chord To Another)
Songs: Ohia (The Magnolia Electric Co.)

Rynne recommended some tremendous albums, but beyond the Bowie and Talking Heads, I wouldn't say any are similar to what you've listed.

Bonnie "Prince" Billy (I See A Darkness)

I was thinking about putting this in my list, too.  That’s a powerful record right there.

How many "suggest me" threads do we need that all contain pretty much the exact same list of music?

To break things up I think you should spend your money on Therion's Theli, Secret of the Runes, Lemuria/Sirius B, and Gothic Kabbalah.
Also invest heavily on Opeth albums.
And some Astral Doors.

Why not start a "suggest me" thread that isn't the same list of music?  Call it "Suggestions that aren't Spiderland and Fun House" or something?

Or else do a poll of, like, that board's top 50 albums and sticky the results?

Orbital – Orbital 2

I whole heartedly also recommend Talking Heads - Remain in Light.  Crosseyed and Painless is such a freaking great song

Particle - Launchpad has been in my mp3 player for a long while now too, give that a try for something a little different

Iron and Wine is boring, but if you're into them..

Check out Sea Wolf, Check out Calexico, look into Willy Mason, you should probably listen to a ton of bright eyes.

If you wanna check out sam beams roots, listen to Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams, Doug Sahm, etc.

But realistically just go get the Does it Offend you, Yeah album, "You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into"
